Hi I have a 2010 pete 389 with a 600 isx, 18 speed and 4:10 gears. I just bought the truck and was driving it home and got a crankcase pressure sensor light on. I took it to cummins they took a quick look at it outside said it needs a new engine. The engine was just done 70k miles ago under warranty do to a block failure. I took it home looked into it myself found that the crankcase filter was full of antifreeze which lead me to believe egr cooler. At this point I have decided to do a full delete. I removed all the parts from the engine and blocked off necessary equipment. I bought a used ecm from a guy I know that had the dletes in it already and was set at 600hp/2050 torque which i thought perfect cause thats how mine was set from factory. I put in the new ecm and fired it up. Truck automatically I noticed was running at 800 rpm all the time, I took it for a drive with a empty trailer behind and was getting some crazy boost out of it like a good 50 psi sometimes when pulling hard but when running normal was still at like 30 psi. I dont think this is right from what I have been reading on here. Also it seems to be burning really raw it burns my eyes when i start it in the shop. And after I shut it off blue smoke comes out of the stacks.I am worried about the truck and what to do with it, do I return it to stock or? Any thoughts appreciated. Or can someone please tell me specifically what I need to buy to tune the ecm myself? Also was it a bad idea to put a different ecm on my truck with the deletes done rather than doing it to my ecm? please help I cant have a 80k dollar boat anchor
I spoke to Rawze a week or so ago, and he is busy repairing his truck due to a deer strike. When he's busy at home, I know he doesn't frequent the forums as much as when he's on the road.
I was fortunate enough to have benefited from Rawze's generous help earlier this summer. I had a PDI delete done on my 525/1850 ISX, and experienced the same issues you are having - minus the crankcase pressure/coolant problems. I can without a doubt tell you that the EGR and DPF delete in your used ECM was done improperly. To this date, Rawze is the ONLY individual that has perfected the EGR/DPF deletes on CM871 ISX engines. PDI, Diesel Spec, Jball and the others are all using the same version of the same flawed delete, which is causing high boost issues - and eventually premature engine failure. With Rawze's assistance I was able to perform a "Milk Money" delete on my engine - for no more than the cost of a Data Link Adapter. Thankfully I now have a properly running engine.
My guess is that the used ECM you threw on your truck has a calibration file loaded in it that isn't compatible with the CPL (Critical Parts List) of your particular engine. The CPL is a list of varying parts that are used to build your engine. Different horsepower ISX's use different CPL's. The parts listed in the CPL can include a different camshaft, injectors, turbo, etc., so you can see how a calibration file written for a particular CPL can wreak havoc if it's loaded into an ECM that's controlling an engine built based on a different CPL.
Your absolute best bet is to reinstall the original ECM on your engine and perform Rawze's "Milk Money" delete. You can find the instructions here:
http://od.lk/hrx If you're hesitant to perform the delete yourself, then your only other option is to wait for Rawze to contact you and give you guidance - although based on his past dealings, I seriously doubt he will perform a delete for you. In the meantime, I suggest you not apply more than 75% throttle, and keep your RPM's below 1500 to prevent excess head pressures with the current setup you're running until you can get the calibration file straightened out.
