Worst truckstop ever?

oh hey, didnt think of this one! Powhatan restaurant in Pocahontas, IL. The truck entrance/exit is lined with huge boulders and has a ditch and the road isnt very wide. and its a right turn on the road to get back to the freeway. So uh, i took it a little too sharp and destroyed a trailer brake chamber. Shittiest truck entrance design on earth, i will never stop there again for this reason.

Oh yeah, the best part? There's a trailer shop across the street from this entrance. It's almost like its some kind of evil plot to get money from inexperienced truckers.

i only miss the "strip clubs" off of I-75(?) i believe.....had truck parking

something like "fantasy land"...?? or fantasy (some thing or another)

anyone else remember....???

You talking about the ones in Fl and GA with billboards for 100's of miles saying, "We dare to bare all?" Cafe' Risque'?

I'm not a fan of pilots in general, but probably for other reasons. The sh!th0le Pilot in Hampton, NJ (I-78, X 12). I hate to even piss in there, much less use their crappy showers (located in the bathrooms with towels on the floor underneth the doors).

I see a few posts about the Flying J in Dallas. Now it has not really improved any, BUT I would have to say the Pilot at exit 470 is by far the worst now. In just the last 2 times I stopped there a driver had his tarps stolen right on the fuel island and another had his truck stolen WHILE HE WAS PUMPING FUEL!!!!!! And of course the lovely security guards they have there were real gungho about helping the drivers out. I do have to give some kudo's to the gm at the east T/A in Ontario CA though. That use to be a real bad place to go and the last couple times I was in there I did not even see 1 lizard lol. We all know they migrated to the west T/A though. At least you can get some sleep there now :)

which one is the east TA? if i recall, theres one across the street from the other, right?

I stopped at one of them once and a lot lizard tried to help me back into a parking place. AT NINE IN THE MORNING. Besides the fact that i was really wondering what on earth she was doing hooking at 9 am, why on earth would anyone trust someone whos not even a truck driver to try to back them into a parking place? I'd rather do it without help anyway.

That used to be another truck stop. Pilot bought it a few years ago. You used to have to pay to park there, not anymore...:)

Some of the more memorable stops I went to once and only once. The Love's in El Paso. Dope deals and lotlizards in the back. and for your listening pleasure on the CB, "Anyone want to cross the border with Blanketman." Another was the old 76 Truck Stop in Ontatio Cal, before they built the fence around it. The whole place was nasty and they found dead hookers in the back. Probably the nastiest place I ever stopped was outside of Boston. There was a truckstop off 495 close to US1. I can't remember the name, but it had Hawk in it somewhere. The crud in the bathrooms was an inch thick in the corners and the floor in the restaurant looked like it had'nt been swept in forever. I wasn't brave enough to eat or shower there

I am surprised there hasn't been a mention of the truck stops up in the Northeast. I don't know if it is still there but near the port in Philadelphia was a really scary truck stop ... and Baltimore has a place I'd rather not return to.

I always tried to get into and out of the northeast as fast as humanly possible, so didn't spend much time in truck stops there :)

I delivered to a fruit and vegetable place in Huntspoint and there was a truckstop just a blk down the road. You walk inside and the first thing you see is porn DVD'S.That should be illegal. If small children ever went in that place they'd see it for sure. But then again this place was SO BAD u walk in it and u smell urine. You don't dare want to get out of your trk females unless accompanied by a male. You will get jumped. That is one place I WILL NEVER EVER step foot in EVER AGAIN. I was approached by 2 UGLY black lot lizards and if they were'nt bugging me druggies would be knocking on my door. Finally I had enough and left even if was out of hrs.

On the other hand, we were just at the Flying J in Hebron, IN. Talk about awesome customer service!!

I usually hate the Flying J buffets.
But the food was actually being replenished and was fresh. Even the salad bar was good. The servers were right there with the refills and checking up on their customers. They even brought out fresh dinner rolls and put them on the table!

Later I had to buy something in the store and there was a cashier available who was friendly.

Wow! My best Flying J experience in AGES!!

Hey Gypsy...need to post that info in a best truck stops thread. I think there is a thread already started regarding good truck stops.

-ss-

Right. Duh! There's the thread!

I'll copy and paste it over there.

I guess I was just in shock to actually find a GOOD Flying J. :headscratch:

After my experience with the Pilot in Carlisle PA, the other day, I would almost have to add that one to the list, I was there an hour and a half before I got to the pumps to get fuel. The people inside weren't the nicest in the world either
