How Long Do You Stay Out OTR Before Going Home?

I’m curious what’s “normal” for everyone right now.

How many days do you typically stay out OTR before going home?

Reply with:
  • Days out: (3–5 / 6–10 / 11–14 / 15–21 / 30+ / home daily)
  • Type of freight: (optional)
  • What makes you stay out longer or come home sooner?
  • Company driver / owner-op / lease: (optional)
Once you are home, what is your normal hometime?

For me, it often falls into the 6-10 range, closer to 6, then home for 2-4 days depending on what is going on.

in my beginning years, all there was, was the long haul companies....local, regional jobs went to those "that knew somebody", at those places......otherwise, all others, pack a bag, and go.

my first long haul job, i was out for 4 months, before they got me to the house, then i had a whopping 36 hours...whoopie.

i lasted at that company all of 6 months..

from that humbled beginning, i got lucky and got a job where i was out less than a week at a time, ran my ass off, and earned more money than any long haul job ever could.

My first OTR job, early 90’s, I believe it was a minimum of 6 weeks out. Seemed to be the normal for the big companies back then.
