Worst truckstop ever?

. . . . . Once I make a little more money, I'm gonna buy one of those fridges that plug into the cigarette lighter. Then I'll stock it with bread, lunchmeat, lettuce, mustard, couple other things, Ill buy a case of water, some cookies, and I'll be eating as cheap as possible. Plus, I can put all the shit right there in the front so I can make myself a sammich while I'm dr......parked.....yeah, that's it. :-)

I wouldn't recommend anything that plugs into a cigarette lighter or those accessory outlets, because they draw too many amps and there will be a risk of fire. Also, those 12 volt gizmos they sell in the truck stops are cheap and won't last long, and will not perform well. If you are a company driver, ask your company to outfit your truck with an DC to AC inverter, about 2500 to 3000 watts (the kind that mount permanently and connect directly to the batteries), and a couple of duplex outlets. Then get one of those small dorm room type refrigerator/freezers and mount it securely. You will be miles ahead that way and will also be able to operate a microwave and a TV.

If you are an owner operator, put one in yourself, you will thank me later for the suggestion.

Ok Racer, thanks for the suggestion. I didn't know that there could be a risk of fire with things that plug into the cigarette lighter outlet. I have had one of those cheap coolers before, it didn't keep things refrigerator cold, but kept it cool enough. I asked the shop if they could install a power invertor if I bought one, and they said yes. In fact, they'd rather do it than have me install it, so that it gets installed correctly. It is a company truck. I don't think I'll need a microwave. My truck is pretty small, it is a barebones 2005 Freightliner, with a Mercedes engine, it is a POS but it gets me down the road.

I stopped at the jet-era truck stop to get fuel and was going to let tiny out but I was afraid to get out myself I might have stepped in something. That place was so trashed. If a clean up crew was to work 12 hr shifts,it would take em a good 2 months to pick up all that trash but I don't blame the truckstop for all the trash outside,I blame dirty truck drivers. Then pot holes big enough to sink a car.The inside of the truckstop was'nt much better.Don't think they've ever mopped the floor or clean any of the coolers.Behind the fuel island was completely trashed.Garbage and papers everywhere,it's like how do you find anything. They have a sign that says homemade cooking. The cook probably smokes and picks his nose while cooking. So I decided to get fuel and go and found the picnic area just a couple miles further and let tiny out there.

sapp bros in denver, co is pretty sleazy. i've stopped there only one time and i will never ever stop there again. the t/a across the street is pretty bad, too, and so is the p-lot off of vasquez and i-70. i've had to go into that pilot to refuel a few times. i will only refuel there if it's possible to do during the late night/early morning hours. that way, i'm in and out in under 15mins.

I have seen a lot of bad ones, but my favorite by far is T/A in Mt. Vernon MO. I-44. Great people, and one of the best buffets I ever seen at a T/A.
One gripe I do have about most of the watering holes, is that they don't keep fresh coffee on in middle of the night.

I saw a truck stop in Amarillo that I didn't go into, probably wouldn't, and just had to shake my head.

THE JESUS CHRIST IS LORD AND NOT A SWEAR WORD Travel Center.

I can just picture the insanely self righteous conversations going on inside about how much better it is than any other truck stop in the world.

I wonder if they sell porn mags...

I forgot about that place. It is still open? I grew up in that area. Remember the J from going for crappy to good then right back to crappy. I knew a few guys that got stuck in the Petro parking area don't know how much the place has changed or if it was ever fixed.

yes, those places are still there and all the truck stops are dumps. i've been tempted to roll into the jesus christ is lord not a swear word travel center a few times with dying fetus, cannibal corpse, six feet under, or skinless blaring from the ghetto blaster. oh man, i could do some serious real life trolling at that place! it'd be a field day!

They also have a small freight company. It has the same slogan on the trailers, and also "Jesus Christ is Lord and not a swear word. Also He is not the "Man Upstairs", he is Our Savior". But then I see the guys driving the trucks are smoking. Now doesn't a good Christian follow the Good Book and keep himself pure? His body is a temple, not an ashtray.

Such hypocrites!

I see those trls too.I don't think I could smoke anywhere near the trk just because of that slogan.

When did they move Dallas North and East of Ohio?

Hurry and answer soon, I am on my way there right now, I have a delivery to make Tuesday morning.

Hey BoyWander - I drive a 2007 Freightliner with POS Mercedes engine too. I put a dorm room size fridge and a microwave in it and tied them to 2000 watt inverter. Everything works good and I save a lot of money on food and I'm not getting fat eating greasy food at truck stops.

It is great to live the good life, isn't it?

I have a similar setup, along with a toaster, and a George Foreman grill. Livin' high on da hog!

The TA and Pilot at exit 343 on I-10 in Florida are both toilets. The bathrooms are dirty. The facilities are run down and poorly maintained. The showers are disgusting. Neither place has a place to sit in the shower room except for the toilet, and the one at the TA that I used almost fell over when I sat on it, and the paper holder was broken there also. The employees are rude and could care less if you are a happy customer.

The TA has a "truck wash" which is basically an outside pit where a fat lazy kid who would really rather be out on the beach does a half assed job of washing trucks. Not to mention they sold me a truck wash, I went to the "wash bay" and mister I would really rather be at the beach today says they don't wash trucks on Sunday. And then the woman who sold me the wash didn't want to give me my money back. I threw a fit and she begrudgingly gave me a refund, making a sarcastic comment about cranky truckers.

And the lazy kid's mom and aunt both work there too. The aunt was the one who sold me the wash and then didn't want to give me a refund. "You can come back tomorrow", she said.

If ever stop here again it will be too soon.

Sad so many truckstops are like the ones you described and they get away with it.Goes to show what they think of truckdrivers.Truckstops vrs gas stations.Gas stations where normal public goes are neat and kept up and the law makes sure of that. But many truckstops are dives and the law could care less.

Why are you being so kind in your description of them? Those two holes aspire to be toilets one day if they get an upgrade.

I think that the next time I find myself down this way I will try the TA South of Jacksonville at exit 329 off of I-95.

Of all the places i have been, I would have to say the worst truck stop is right in my own back yard. The husky truck stop in Mississauga at Kennedy and Courtney park is by far the biggest dump I have ever seen. All the fuel pumps are broken so you can't just slide in your fuel card and fuel, But instead you fuel while some piece of crap walks around and writes down you plate number then you have to go inside and pay the cashier. If you want a coffee (at least thats what they call it) you have to ask a person behind the counter to make it for you. They do not speak English well either. Man what a dump. Thank god I only have to fuel there.
