Knowledge, Knowledge, Knowledge

I'm basing my question from this article:
And a few weeks ago, a Washington DOT guy specifically asked for my medical card at a roadside level 2.

The article basically says what I said. The requirement to carry it is no longer present, but recommended to still carry. Based on that, I imagine that when the directive comes down, it will be to do quick checks through the computer, and then send on the way.

To the WDOT officer issue. We can always ask, but if you don't have it, as you are not required to carry it, then no violation is present. http://www.cvsa.org/programs/docume...integration-with-the-cdl-created-01-29-15.pdf

From the LandLine article:
"So the CDL/driving record should reflect that the drivers are in compliance,” Keppler said. “However, we have heard about a number of instances where (for several reasons) problems are being experienced in the field, so we recommend that drivers still carry their medical certificate just to be safe.”

This looks like a mandate to continue carrying the medical card to me. "Problems in the field" means there are many instances wherein the inspecting officer can't access the driver's home state records due to software issues or because they don't know where to look for the information. Even if the driver has complied with the mandate to give a copy to their DMV and it's registered in their home state's system, it can't be proven the driver has a valid medical. Therefore, in order to prove the medical is current and good, the driver must present the officer with proof...which would be the medical card.

If any officer worth a crap found a driver without a valid medical exam, he'd shut that driver down until the driver is in compliance, whether the driver registered his medical with his state or not. There is no accessible record of such registration and, in the eyes of the law, the valid medical does not exist. The valid CDL still isn't enough to prove a valid medical.

I think there will be a lot of pissed drivers this year.

This is what I'm referring to:

2. CDL is valid, medical indicator shows no medical information on file, no medical certificate in driver’s possession. Cite §391.41(a)(1)

Driver gets in trouble because the clerk at the county office had Beer:30 on her mind on a Friday afternoon and didn't enter the information.

No way the driver's going to know that, therefore, CVSA is mandating valid medical cards be carried by the driver.

:harumph:

BEER! That's what I should be doing!

@Sapper -

First, welcome to the forum, and thanks for being literate.

I said on here a few years ago I'd like to see an LEO join the forum, so we could get their side of things. I'm glad it's finally happened. Sorta. Now that I think about it....sorta. I'll probably have to tone down on all the outlaw shit I end up doing as a result of too many rules, regulations, policies, and procedures and laws in my field. Ask most people, I should probably behave more anyway...

I haven't read this whole thread, but it seems you've been challenged a bunch of times. That's probably a good thing, but I hope you don't tire of it and leave.

Some of these people are of a pretty good mind, and they speak it. Others - well....they speak anyway.

Can't help that. Sorry.

Also, I apologize that they got you talking about trucks, and trucking, and regulation...and blaa blaa blaa - crying out loud if I ever get insomnia, I might read some of that crap. There's so many other things to talk about besides that stuff. For example, we have one of the best music thread in the world here.

We also have our own celebrity doctor.

There is also The Only 20 Thread You Need to Read and an awesome media section - where is contained...coincidentally... The Only Album You Need To View.

There a few notable members at this place too. Some of them might actually listen rather than try to best you at every turn.

All in all, if the place sucked, I wouldn't be here. I have precious little time for suck.

I don't make enough to pay snitches. Besides, snitches get stitches, and end up in ditches, didn't you know? And thx for the "welcome".
Money isn't the object.... We can negotiate more lucrative trades.... Trust me.

Lol...

Really.... I'm glad you had the brass too show up. Like @Sinister ...i too have had a desire to have some authority of LEO convey to the masses...

We got us a bunch 'condriacs.... If you get my drift.

I would've come to your rescue sooner but I WASN'T done with my typical 945 mile day. And ..... Reading, responding, using electronic devices is frowned upon by the establishment.

@Sinister

Thanks for the "welcome". Don't worry about toning down, odds are, you aren't doing, or haven't done, anything I didn't do when I was floating gears. In fact, the first time I ever grabbed a gear in a truck was, well, wrong. Something about being 15, with no license at all is really frowned upon. But dad was tired, and I wasn't, so he let me have at it. And odds are, if we do meet, you'd probably be shaking my hand when parting ways, even if you were leaving with a summons(which I rarely do). I don't mind being challenged, if I'm wrong, I'll admit it. Besides, that type of discussion makes us all better in the long run, as a lot of knowledge is being put out. So if the driver's don't mind me being here, I think I'll stick around, and see if I can help them keep their money in the A$$ National Bank.

LOL! I was driving dump trucks, goosenecks loaded down with hay, and other stuff out on the highway from the age of around 12, sometimes out there all by myself, which is why I struggle to take this demand for better driver training seriously.

Today, we would crucify people for allowing the poor wittle children to do such a thing
