I used to work at the same pace in warehousing. It wasn't sustainable for me.
I'm not lazy but I'm not really tough. That's my problem. I work harder than I should and screw my body over.
It's good that you know that.
I do the same thing.. and still hit the gym. I try to make up for it with sleep and nutrition, but the aging factor is so strong... way stronger than people give credit... ad that to driving truck and you pretty much have a recipe for ultimate discomfort vs... what they call "Golden Years???"
I have no clue where people were in the state of mind or health to have "golden years" ... even Bowie sang about them.. I guess he didnt get to enjoy them either
Point is, through all my rambling and hidden messages, truckdriving will make you work harder than a "normal" (?????) "person".. and in the end, or should I say "towards" the end.... you will feel it. OMG, you WILL FEEL IT.
There was a day when trucking made me so happy. I actually looked forward to hitting the road. No matter how long the trip or how physical the labor.
Now? I go through this mental "angst" before each trip... I wanna go, I don't wanna go.... I'm cool when I'm out there, but sometimes I wish I hadn't taken the load.
It's "hit or miss" these days.
I think after a good 35 years it really is time to start thinking about getting some semblance of a life.
Trucking steals that from you. It gives you a "lifestyle".. but the "life" part really is lacking.
Not sure if ANYONE is with me here, but with all the regulations that are coming and all of the years Ive already put in, all the freedom I've had... I'm not sure I even want a taste of "what's to come"
My rig is beautiful. The truck is a show truck, but at the end of the day.... it really has no effect on me when I'm tired, angry, apathetic.. and just plain worn out.
Could be just me. I see a lot of dudes older than me that look like Zombies holding the wheel.. running 54.9 mph...
I can't do that. I can't no matter how hard I try.
This is why I think that the mandates will be too much for me to handle.
You can't teach an old dog new tricks. I think that analogy applies to me.
... as I'm holding the steering wheel ... thinking... thinking... thinking....
