The War Path

They make Steaks out of Cheese? Those Phildelphians are weird, I like my steaks made out of cow, not cow byproduct.

Philadelphia Cheese Steak Sandwich:

Ingredients:

2 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 medium onions, sliced as thin as possible and rings separated*
1/2 cup sliced mushrooms
12 ounces chipped steak (very thin-sliced eye of round, rib eye, or sirloin tip roast cut into 1-inch slices)**
Salt and coarsely-ground black pepper
Cheese Whiz or provolone cheese slices
1 (8-inch long) Italian loaf, hoagie roll, or French baguette
Dill pickle spears

* Learn how to made Baked Caramelized Onions. This is a quick and easy way to caramelize a large amount of onions.

** Freeze steak before slicing. With a sharp knife, slice the meat paper thin.

Preparation:

In a large frying pan over high heat, add olive oil and heat so that a drop of water will sizzle when you drop it in the oil; lower heat to medium. Add onions and mushrooms, stir and cook until mushrooms darken and onions start to look transparent. Add steak slices and cook for approximately 3 minutes or until meat is lightly browned. Add salt and pepper to taste.

Heap cooked meat mixture in a long length-wise pile across the frying pan, Lay cheese slices over meat until melted. If using Cheese Whiz, melt in a double boiler or in the microwave.

Slice bread lengthwise. Using a spatula, scoop 1/2 the meat mixture and cheese and lay on bread with cheese on top. If using melted Cheese Whiz, ladle it on top. If you're using Cheez Whiz, don't use too much or it can overpower the sandwich's taste.

Slice sandwich into 2 or 4 pieces, and serve with a dill pickle.

Each sandwich makes 2 servings.

I prefer the Provalone version. Canned cheese food product just doesn't taste right to me.

Meh, Cheese on shredded beef and onions is not unique to Philadelphia. That is essentially what I make for a basic Girdle Scone...

Only difference is instead of being an 8" by 3" bun, it's a flat 8" diameter round of damper.

I use Cheddar, Usually mild, but occasionally tasty. A swiss Guere chess is somewhat sweet for my taste. Gouda and Colby are't to bad.

Nothing wrong with a good mushroom & swiss burger or steak. Or even some good aged sharp cheddar, and grilled onions.

But a true Philly must be sampled at least once in your life ;)

Yah! But when you say you are going to make someone a Philly cheese steak that has never been to Philly, Big it up! Sure it is cheese over shredded beef and onions and green peps. This right here, What I am making for you is Philly cheese steak, This is how they do it, The only other one you are going to get that tastes this good is from Philly, Now I am saving you some time and money here. I make them here from time to time. I use the Cheese Whiz. I know what cheese is, Not sure I want to know about the whiz part. lol

I'm at the yard for the moment.

I just replaced this:

which really isn't a big deal. It took longer to get the tools out to do it than it took to do it.

But, WTF is it with guys who, when they see a woman walk toward a vehicle with wrenches and a part in her hand, they have to gather round and supervise even when they have no idea what they're looking at?

Two company guys and a lease-op had to come see what I was doing waaaaaayyyyy back in the far corner with tools and a little part. Luckily, none of them said anything or the kibitzer would have ended up intimately familiar with that 11/16 wrench in my hand.

They were just curious about your funny looking kitchen that resembles a truck. :D

Should a similar repair situation recur, tell your newly acquired fan club to do something useful. Hand 'em a bucket and brush. That should reduce the volume of advice, comments, opinions, etc. Those chains don't gleam in the light; ergo, your newly acquired fan club should infer that you got more than enough s p u n k to git 'er dun.

Never new one couldn't write a contraction of s p u n k on this forum. What's that all about? More PC stuff?

Got a buddy here in Anchorage. For years he was arguably one of the three best drag racers in Alaska. He has four daughters all of whom are not mechanics and none whom you'd take for anything other than a female. Yet I'd trust any one of them, including the one who is a hair dresser, to work on any vehicle I owned. That is not to say that they will. I've yet to see DNA confer talent, mechanical or otherwise.

BTW, when are we taking back our language from the PC ______s (fill in the blank with your choice of epithet; any epithet thereon is OK with me) that seem to be the English word Nazis?
