The War Path

The biggest thing other than the exhaust, is probably dampening vibrations from transferring from the engine to the truck frame. I'd be nervous about making alterations to the enclosure, even it was externally water-cooled.

Thats half the problem.
Sound proofing the APU box will yield a quieter APU.
When I had a APU it had a small car muffler and the box was lined with "egg crate" style foam.
Now that the APU motor took a dump I removed all the components and have a nice padded step box.:D

Yup, Tim is right. It's not the muffler, it's the engine itself. The enclosure needs to be sound proofed. I have a Rigmaster and had a pipe installed all the way to the rear of the truck with a car muffler. A little quieter but no much.

You can't afford me. That's why I offer my smartassery for free.

The only benefit to this *^$%ing freezing fog is cruising along at 55mph in 12th gear gets me 8mpg.
Yeah but after only one hour of that crap, your eyes look like this:

So, yesterday, as I was descending the east side of Lookout Pass, there were two snow plows in front of me, one in each lane. They were moving at about 30 mph. I hung back a bit because I didn't want a rock chip in the brand new windshield on its maiden voyage. A few cars passed me and also got hung up behind the plows.

Well. Here comes a guy haulin' a** down the hill with flat doubles hooked to him. He whipped 'er around me in the left lane, glaring at me and flashing his lights like a fool ...and then saw the cars that had already passed me. He had to break it down pretty hard to keep from making a hood ornament out of the rearmost car.

Me? Couldn't contain myself.

I picked up my CB mic and said, "Well, now what'r ya' gonna do, super-trucker?"

I didn't listen for a response.

The cars were all in the left lane, I suppose because they thought the left plow would move out of their way. Supertrucker took the granny lane and managed to slow it down before plowing into the right plow. I had enough space and time to stop in any case.

I don't know why those plow drivers insist on hogging the road when they do that. If they stagger themselves far enough apart, they can still plow the road but traffic can get through & they won't have a miles-long backup behind them full of idiots jockeying changing lanes on slick pavement every time one lane inches along a little faster than the other.

They do that because the guy in the left lane pushes the snow to the right lane, where the other guy pushes it completely off the road.

It would be funny to watch cars snake between the plows while they're working, though..

Funny? I've done it a few times. Nothing funny about it. Just move over & go. (carefully)

Oregon has to post signs everywhere that say "Do Not Pass Snow Plows On The Right."

Because people will, then wonder why they get a windshield full'a snow, muck and slush. Snow's heavier out here. Wetter.

I was behind two of those plow boys today. They did not have their blades down, they where not throwing salt, But the one plow was straddling the two lanes to keep me from going around. I could not figure it out. Doing half of the 85MPH speed limit I was about to holler at him on the radio but i notice there where no antenna's on the truck.

Piss me off at 05;00 and I will have something to say. lol.

I did once pass the plow/salt shakers in W.V. Then I heard a bunch of B.S. on the radio about they would find me in the ditch a mile up the road. two drivers saw the Ontario plates and wanted to follow me. They did for a bit, Couple miles. Not sure where they got to after that.

I'll bet it sucks passing one on the left when it's pushing a reversed blade down the road.
