The War Path

Got a wind screen for Ruthie and I'll be riding back to Grandview.

Tomorrow night, I'll be out tryin' to pick a fight with a pain in my ass.

Mrs. Duck just told me that Grandview is haunted because it's the name of the town in "Ghost Whisperer".

He's in the rehab unit now. Lots of hard work, but they're saying he might go home around Thanksgiving.

Went to dinner with my daughter. Some stupid b**** rear-ended me while I was sitting at a red light waiting to make a left turn from a turn lane. I'm fine. But the bike will be out of service for a couple of weeks. I was able to ride it to the dealership.

Young kid in her early 20s. Probably texting. She pushed the bike right out from under me. She jumped out of her car hollering, "I'm Sorry, I'm Sorry!" I was able to just step aside so she wouldn't hit me, too. I just looked at her and said, "Well, THAT was pretty f'kn stupid, wasn't it?"

Gonna be a pricey mistake for her. It's almost all cosmetic damage, but there's enough of that to add up pretty quick. Good thing she has insurance. It'll be put to use on this one.

Cops cut me loose, saying, "You can go, we're not done with her." And started doing the Step-Over-There dance. Didn't have to tell me twice.

So, my %$*& shifting elbow is hurting like hell. I can feel the pressure on the joint/muscle assembly just picking up a 20 oz cup of coffee. Gotta so see the sawbones about it tomorrow. Talked to the teenager's insurance company. They are accepting 100% liability.

My OM is doing really good in physical/occupational/speech therapy. I'm very happy with his progress. Very happy. He got a buzz-cut and removed 15" of beautiful salt-n-pepper Indian hair, but I don't blame him. The surgeon shaved a 4" bald spot on top of his head when the drain was put in. He's rockin' the high-n-tight.

He's on course for a mid to late November release.

My OM had a stroke. He had a bleed into his brain. There's a tube sticking out the top of his head now, to relieve the excess pressure inside his skull.

Initially, he couldn't move his right side or speak. He has movement to his right arm and is able to grasp items. He's able to communicate verbally, but not clearly. With this improvement, it looks pretty good, but the doctors won't be sure for three more days.

I know I'm way late on saying anything, but so sorry to read about this.

I guess I missed a lot of things here lately, since I haven't been around much. My bad.

I'll say a prayer for yous twos.

...so...I'm at the Post Falls store and, as I'm standing in line, a call comes over the PA: Need the truck moved out of the dock for the next guy. No biggee...except our other driver stopped right in front of me and I have to take a fairly tight U-turn to be faced the correct direction. I was in the center of three docks. I figure I'll just go up the outside (right) of him and make the U. Can't do it because Genius had himself almost jack-knifed in an attempt to set himself up for his back. So, I jockeyed it back and forth until I had his way cleared. Would have taken less than a minute if he'd just stopped in the alleyway instead of pulling up in front of me....but WTF do I know.

Anyway, I go back inside to pay for the stuff I'd picked off the shelves and the cashier (!) starts teasing me about Swift: "Ya know what SWIFT stands for, don't ya! HAWR-HAWR-HAWR! Sure Wish...."

"Yeh, I've heard that one and a gazillion others." *yawn*

She then made a fatal mistake: She told me she and her husband USED to work for Werner.

Oh.
Really?

"We Employ Re***ds, No Experience Required..."

"No," says she, "It's Rookies..."

But I was already walking away, giggling under my breath.

Funny how all the non hackers love tell truckers that they too drove a truck once.

At the truck stop in Hatton, WA.

There are six minivans, three SUVs and a few sedans here, too. All of them are jammed with moms, dads, kids and dogs. A large percentage of them appear to be travelling together.

The wait to get a cup of coffee appears to be around 45 minutes.

I believe it's a conspiracy to keep me from my life's blood. If I survive this attack, I will post more.

.....getting.......

................weaker............

Don't ya just love it when the "civvies" flock to the "truckstops", haul 43 dozen kids into the only restrooms and then bi-ch about the dam truckdrivers when the diesel desk can't take care of them before the truckers who are waiting for fuel receipts, etc.

It was a close one.

But through my own Injun-new-it-tee, I managed to pull off a survival maneuver of epic proportion to the situation...

Okay, so yesterday kind'a sucked. I went to get my OM out of the rehab home to take him to the dentist. We got there in plenty of time. I was planning on paying for it all with my card. As we were waiting to go in, I got a text message from my bank asking whether I was making three $100 purchases in a row at a Dunkin Donuts in Georgia. Uh....NOPE. I had to immediately cancel my card. I showed the receptionist the text message and told her what happened and I would have to go to the bank in person and bring her cash. No problem. On the way, take my OM to the oral surgeon for two extractions. Cool.

Well. I no sooner pull up in front of the oral surgeon's office and the fuel pump went out. Some genius at Ford decided the best place for the fuel pump is inside the gas tank...which I had just filled not three hours and 45 miles ago. So. Now, I have a guy with a walker who will have to go about five miles away to his room, a dead car blocking the entrance to the oral surgeon's office, no money to pay for the extractions, forget about the dentist who referred him, no way to go get money and no way to get home, 35 miles away. And it's in the low 20s, expected to drop into the low teens.

Okay, gotta set up priorities.

First priority is get my old guy back to the rehab facility. Called the facility and they have a van they can send for him. Good. Done.

In the mean time, a friend of the family came and gave a definitive diagnosis on the car. He has a buddy whose shop he does side work in about three blocks from where I was. He arranged a tow (another funny story) and, finding out what had happened with my card, ran me to the bank so I could draw enough money out to pay for the tow, pay him for parts and labor and pay the oral surgeon because Medicare doesn't pay for extractions, even if the rotten tooth is causing sepsis.

Second, Third and Fourth priorities nailed: Pay the oral surgeon, deal with the stupid car and pay the guy who's going to fix said stupid car.

Finally, find a way to get me home. So, I call my go-to gal, Madeline and ask if she can come get me. She can't because there's a nail in her tire and the tire shop is closed.

(Are you laughing yet?)

About that time, another good family friend called who works in Spokane but lives in Idaho to see what all's been going on with me and how my ol man is doing. Well! Where would you like me to start? He offered to take me home, which I would have been an idiot to refuse.

So. Over the course of the next half hour, my ol' fella was picked up and taken to his temporary digs with enough gauze in his mouth to make him look like a sqirrel, the tow truck arrived to pick up the car (another comedy of WTF could possibly go wrong: The chain hook kept falling off the right side as soon as some tension was put on the line...but I forgave the poor guy because he's a recovering CRST driver...) and my other friend showed up to take me home.

Mission Accomplished!

Okay, today.

I called the dentist's office to tell them why I didn't return yesterday and why I couldn't return today. The lady was really cool about it. She said call them next week when I have a good card.

And, I talked to my guy's "parole board." He GETS TO GO HOME!!

:yippee-1:

December 10 is his discharge date.
