The War Path

Don't sell yourself short, you got great instincts! Sending positive thoughts your way, and if I need to get on my knees to do it, so be it!

He was out of bed and in a chair for an hour and a half this morning, fed himself and speech getting better and better.

His right leg has plenty of strength, but he's just having trouble controling its movement. That should be correctable (for the most part) with physical therapy.

He's just very tired from out-of-bed adventure this morning, so napping soundly at the moment.

My OM had a stroke. He had a bleed into his brain. There's a tube sticking out the top of his head now, to relieve the excess pressure inside his skull.

Initially, he couldn't move his right side or speak. He has movement to his right arm and is able to grasp items. He's able to communicate verbally, but not clearly. With this improvement, it looks pretty good, but the doctors won't be sure for three more days.
Since this time, has he been able to get up and walk? is he still in the hospital? Sorry for playing catch up

My uncle Paul had a stroke that closely resembles your OM's but his recovery didn't go nearly as well, initially.
That was when I almost too young to remember.
30 years later, he had limited control over his right side...
but he could crush your hand with a steely-eyed grin...
And he worked until he was nearly 80 years old!!
Keep the faith.

He was extra restless today and very agitated. Medical people said it's normal, like his brain "rebooting."

Hope this phase passes quickly.

Are you taking care of you while he is in the hospital? While he has all the nurses there, get on one of the bikes and take a ride for an hour or three. You might not have the chance when he is released. It will clear your head and relax you for the moment.

Yeah, .. what he said ^^^

Holy crap Injun. As Inkeeper and Duck said take time to clear your mind. You and he have the ability to overcome this, and you will not let it overwhelm either one of you I am sure. But taking a moment to let your brain reboot would likely be beneficial to both of you.

Hopefully your daughter will be there to support you, just give her the chance. Do not be afraid to ask for help, from anyone.

As always feel free to rant and rave at us:rant:

We kind of like the abuse anyways:idiot:

@Inkeper @Duck @Tazz
I'm doing what I can. I have over 250 brothers to lean on...and their ladies are my sisters. Many of these ladies are every bit as strong and some stronger than I am.

But you're right. Everybody has a breaking point. I've been pushed very close to mine during the past week and a half. I'm beginning to see some light now.

He got the drain out today, with no need for a permanent shunt. He's on his way to a regular floor. Medical staff are already talking rehab and hopefully, he'll be able to do it in-house at the hospital he's currently in. It's more intensive and rigorous than a nursing home type facility.

I'll be going back to work probably Friday.
