The Island of Misfit Toys

I'm to tired to be entertaining today, you'll have to grab the one we share...
Goob? Shoot man, still haven't heard from him. Gonna have to send out a search party for him soon. He's been in a funk for a bit, I fear. Cornstalk should be coming soon as well I'm betting.

By the way @MIT did the fellas at the shop take a look at your bird murder scene?
Ehhhh I didn’t even bring it up. From the ground it looks good. On a side note having a brand new windshield was like sitting in front of a 4K ultra tv all day. Took a while to get used to it was strange not having splattered bugs in my sight line all day. It gave me a headache.

@Snowblind do you guys have multiple regions or something? Seen a few of your trucks last few days in places I didn't realize y'all went. Saw a couple on 81 in TN, one on 72 in AL, and one on 411 in GA. Didn't think to look if they had sleepers or not, shoulda paid closer attention.

Yes... No.... sort of... what can I say, it's kinda jacked up man, but the short answer is yes.

There's approx 50 some terminals/yards/transloading locations thru-out the country.

As far as I know most guys are regular type out and back daily off on Sat and/or Sun. Maybe 3 loads in a day all going to close places or 1 going 250 miles away or so, something like that.

There are also guys that work a 4 on/ 4 off schedule. When they leave they can get bounced anywhere and might be gone for all of those 4 days or might be home every night depending on the load schedule, no matter if they're in sleepers or day cabs.

Then they recently started hiring "system drivers", it's the company's version of what you and I would consider to be OTR. All they do is the movement of trailers thru-out the company terminal system. Say a trailer gets loaded in Omaha, has to go to Jersey. A system driver will take it and drop it in maybe Bethlehem, PA then a local guy will grab it and do the actual delivery, get back home the same day. System drivers can't unload, their trucks aren't outfitted for it. They are out something like 3-4 weeks (sleepers).

Then there's a couple idiots like me. Some guys fall into a general schedule of what loads they do weekly, I'm not one of them. Last week I was out and back every day for a change, a nice change up. Friday morning I leave out for Washington state.

Right on. My last sighting was this morning at the Pilot in Cleveland TN. And that poor trailer looked ROUGH.

That actually sounds like a good opportunity for an O/O if they could come up with a fair rate system. Tell you what, I could get used to these hours I'm runnin' lately. Tomorrow will make the fourth day in a row that I'm starting my time between 11pm and 1am. The lack of traffic is so amazing. Gotta deals with the drunks and the wildlife, but I'll take it any day.

Ah, yes, the trade-off... night driving offers WAY less traffic, but ya sacrifice visibility and your safety margins decrease, particularly in bad weather. But it sure feels good driving into some metro $h!thole at 0300, when whatever traffic exists is actually moving, LOL. Beats that stop-and-go or slow-and-go "accordion traffic" hands down, 10-4? Whenever I had to drive at night, I liked to do it while fresh and alert, rather than driving all day and into the night when heller tired. o_O

No doubt about that. And speaking of hella tired... Been up since 10pm and this trucker is feeling like a zombie. That's the only thing I don't like. Hitting the rack at 3pm. Doesn't feel right lol.

Haha, I hear ya... I worked graveyard for awhile with one employer (not trucking-related), and it took me weeks to get used to the hours. Something about a "Circadian Rhythm" or whatever... felt like a vampire at times, LOL.

I'm ok with the hours. But, sleeping in a truck during the day is weird for me. At home, no problem. I can sleep any time. But for some reason the truck is different. It's probably just me, I'm weird like that sometimes. Wish I ran like this all the time though because I really love it. Just happened to work out this way this week. Weird loads.

Large companies amuse me. I have to use the word amuse because I'm so angry with mine right now that I'm forcing myself to step back, take a breath, and laugh at it. Everyone has heard the term "the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing". Now imagine 20 hands. My word. Trying to slog through my last few weeks with this place and it's almost unbearable. Tell you what, I'm gaining respect for company drivers that work for megas. As much as they get belittled, I feel that there is an untold mess that they deal with on the regular that explains the unfortunate stereotype. I feel that they probably work harder than most when you factor in the litany of idiocy spewed from the front office. The mental stress and micromanagement is enough to make you nuts. Can't wait to be done with this madness.

@Snowblind @MIT Here's some fun irony. I'm picking up a load in Brockway PA going to Trenton. I'll give you one guess what it is. The broker that gave me the load said that "the commodity wasn't listed, but it's heavy. Just wanted to make sure you're okay with the weight". Yup, I know what it is. Looks like I'm hauling bottles to Miller. Feeling nostalgic at the moment :) And by the way if you've never been to the Owens location in Brockway PA, consider yourself lucky. Old school docks/setup, with a very militant angry woman running the forklift. I'm still gonna be smiling. It's gonna feel like time traveling.

I've been 10p-10a for the past 3 years. It's awesome for productivity. Although backing into the tighter spots is easier when you can actually see. 😂
Ugh, you're a mind reader. That's the only thing I truly dislike is trying to a dnh or load/unload at 2am in a poorly lit spot. But other than that, these hours rock.
