So, we are now the owners of a new hybrid Prius!

yep, something I would never do on fuel cost alone. For me, it was a combination of things. Age of other vehicle, money needed to make it safe for a potential teenage driver (due to the abuse I sent my truck through), fuel cost, safety around town, and a few other things. zero percent financing tipped the scales though ;)
i would never go in (more ) debt to save fuel and i have to agree with the age of the vehicle and what kind of abuse that it's been through or if it was just a POS from one day then theres the safety issue then there's the money pit factor:rolleyes::stare1:. i have a i think it's a 92 or a 96 F250 dulley and it cost me 800.00 a month in fuel but it still runs and is reliable hasn't been a money pit;). and i am not gonna put any money into it when it dies it dies. it's just a work truck. on top of the dealer discounts and pricing and trade in and the dealer giving me a 25% discount for paying cash i came out pretty good;)

yeah, my truck had some abuse issues. I did a ton of mud bogging in that thing for quite a while, almost afraid of what might be about to break underneath.

my truck has abuse issues since it's for construction sites. the ass end is all tore up no A/C dash is starting to crack almost bald tires but it runs everytime. it looks like something DUCK would drive:D

My truck still looked good, and had less than 60K on it, so the trade in was great. Usually, you can get more money by selling to an individual, but an individual would have actually looked closely at it.

mine has abuse issues and no one would buy it. though we traded in the wifes suv because of emissions issues and those are not cheap to fix. so we decided to trade it in before the warranty ran out. i would have sold the suv to a pvt party but like you said they would have looked closely at it and would more than likely waited a car fax report ect ect. i just wanted to off load it. and no one i know of would want to maintain a german car once the warranty ran out as maintance costs are insane!!

What annoys me is people with plug-in electric or hybrid cars have this odd sense of entitlement. They think nothing of plugging their car in wherever they are without asking first. Saw a guy (money not a problem...he's a high-priced attorney) plug his car in at a church, ffs. Like it's the church's job to pay for his fuel.
what really pisses me off. is the people with the odd sense of entitlement. thinking that they own the damm charging stations by being freeloaders and hogging em up all of the time. another thing that really pisses me off is the idiots that park in EV parking spots and they don't even have an EV vehicle and or just not charging there EV vehicle:mad::bonk:

While the computer controls are improving, battery technology hasn't changed significantly in over 125 years to make much difference.

Motor design isn't much better.
petro engines have never really been that efficient in things like traffic jams and so on. that's where the electric motor hopes out and they both help each other out maximizing fuel economy. yes computer controls are improving but it seems like the updates suck need i say more on updates:Do_O

Cost wise, a pure electric car is sensible if you travel less than 10 miles to work.

Between 10 and 35 miles, a hybrid is sensible.

Past about 35 -40 miles, you really need the large energy storage capacity of petroleum fuel to benefit.
i could never justify the cost of a pure eletric. atleast with a gas engine your not stranded once the batteries die. and some of these stations charge alot to charge up after finding a few that are crooks:mad:

and also EV charging spots are treated handicapped spots and any violators will be fined dearly if there not charging up or they parked there in a non EV vehicle and or they will be towed at there own expense. now i like that law LOL:thumbsup: as that's how it should be. some charging spots will give you a time limit on charging then at that point you risk loosing your car. another thing i noticed with peoples odd sense of entitlement:rolleyes:o_O. is the person with a hybrid over a pure electric vehicle. the person with the hybrid vehicle will take over the charging station not letting the person with the pure electric vehicle in first to charge up.. where is these peoples common sense you have a fuel tank in the back and they don't i would let the person with the pure electric EV go before me.. and yes i hit all of the free ones since my tax money paid for em. but i never make a habbit of abusing them. i charged up in the sherrifs station one the safest place to leave your car the only con to that is you best make sure that your registration is upto date:D

So I was saw a Prius yesterday with a solar panel in the roof. I was curious how much it helped and went to find out about it and read this.

The Underwhelming Solar Prius

Toyota, it turns out, won’t even bother plugging its solar rooftop panel into the 2010 Prius’s nickel-metal-hydride battery. EVWorld editor Bill Moore, citing a conversation with Akihiko Otsuka, chief engineer for the Prius redesign, writes that

Toyota tried it and apparently discovered that for not-entirely-well-understood reasons, connecting the PV panels to the battery turns them into an “antenna” of sorts, which at the very least seems to disrupt the car’s radio.

:rolllaugh3:
electric cars don't have AM because of all of the electrical interference :rolllaugh3::biglaugh:. and i don't care how much you pay for them there's no AM radio because of this issue:stare1:. but then again who listens to AM any more with all of the other options out there online streaming satellite radio CD'S usb drives:confused-96:

whats this wait til krel see's this:confused-96:. i dunno i can go balls to the wall in my hybrid and still get 40 mpg and i'm talking max speed with idiot lights popping up:rolllaugh3:. id'e show you on youtube but id'e have to block out my speed:yahoo:. though driving it on the freeway like a normal human it's been hitting 80 mpg. and were talking something the size of a camary and not something the size of a box:stare1:. the prius has it's place its for some one that uses it to drive around town and wants to squeeze every penny out of there fuel dollar. mine is not ment to be driven like a prius. going 150 mph and the car is turning out 40 mpg is awsome considering it's going that fast.. though i'm hoping they put a V6 in it that would be fun:rolleyes::D:stare1: and make it into a convertible also!!! electric super cars are fun to drive there's no wating for the engine to get up to the rpms take off is instant:D
