Hi, is sleeping at these “rest havens “ a good idea? Or are you just asking for DOT banging on your window at 3 AM to do a random inspection ?

I’ve never been hassled sleeping at a scale. If you’re oversized they are sometimes a really good option. I’ve had pizzas delivered to scales, too.
Just be careful in Ohio. Those leeches do just about anything to generate revenue

I used to sleep at one in KY. Never had them pound on my door. Did have to cross the scale if it was open when I left. That was hardly ever.
I stayed at a few in IN and was never hasseled. There was no one around. Usually had the place to myself.

This is very surprising coming from you. Sleeping at weigh stations always seemed counterintuitive and a last resort to me. I've only ever done it once but there were 2 of us running the 17 just into Ontario out of Manitoba each over 13 wide, and it was just that a last resort.
I've stopped at them to check loads when there was absolutely no sign of life but they've never even been on my radar as an overnight option.

When you’re oversized you don’t have a choice, if it’s on route. I agree and it’s one of the reasons I dislike oversize.
I DO take the job seriously, I’ve dropped wagons to fuel before. All I need is some steering wheel holder smashing into my load. Same for parking, coops are usually deserted overnight, lessens the chance of Johnny Low Life Reefer Yanker bumping me in the dark.
I think I can count on one hand easily the number of times I’ve parked at a coop

Bah just straight up straddle the line between 2 spots. The farther out you are the better your odds of finding 2 and less odds the wheel holder can find you. Ain't nobody gonna say shit about it. Long is another story......

I've always wondered if they hassle people that sleep at weigh stations. Some states say that there is no parking when it's closed. Most aren't like that though.

Some specifically say truck parking when closed. Others act like your taxes don't own it.

I've exited my truck in the morning to do my walk around, dump the trash, etc, and had an officer pulling an inspection on someone they just pulled in next to me. Said, "Good Morning" to the cop, finished my business and departed with no hassle.
If they allow overnight parking at a coop its to help us out with a good nights sleep off of that side of the road - not to set us up.

here in CT, the DOT guys wake you up if you are there when they open up. sometimes they want to see all your paperwork. can't say i ever saw them having the trucks go onto the scales, but one thing they have done, was a quick "lights" inspection.....

I have stayed at the “Rest Havens” twice in my career, the first time I ended up with an inspection one hour before my 10 hour break was up, the second was only 5 hours in to my break, both were level 1 inspections, both times I passed, but also both times I ended up late on deliveries because I had to restart my breaks. Never again. To me, it’s not worth the hassle

When I got woken up last winter by the cop I never went to on duty. He wanted to see the bills and check the serial numbers on everything.
Different than a level one, yes.
