Moving again...

Yah I gotta move out of the rented garage and that's bad enough. All that little crap I've accumulated...

I got rid of all my crap. Took me maybe a year. I filled up a trash bag once a week. Not really a trash bag but that type of volume. Hanging onto that microwave that still works but you replaced it because it had rust on it was no excuse to keep it. 6,000 Tupperware containers you haven't used in 20 years. 37 blankets and 42 sets of sheets.

I knew this woman a while ago and was telling her about this and that. She told me to make a list and hang in on the fridge. She said write down EVERYTHING like replace wall socket cover in bathroom, tighten all draw knobs, throw out old pillows and so on. Then she said to do just one thing a day and cross it off. It worked!! Some days I would keep going until I had enough.

As far as moving, I'm a master at it. For maybe 10 years I roamed around the country doing projects here and there. High School football coach is a great place to hire some cheap help. Both times two didn't show up, half the team showed up and used the money to buy pizza. Mexican day help waiting on the corner.

i guess that since i wasn't specific, as i didn't have the words at hand, is..

what if the developer that built the condo plaza, sells out to another developer.....

does the monthly maintenance fee's go up, as i know they cannot mess with your mortgage, as that's either done thru a mortgage company, or a bank.

i have "seen" condo plazas in my area, change names, to yet another "development company"

do development companies "sell" (in some way) rights to an HOA..?????...and maybe still rake in a percentage of those fee's..????

so much to learn about HOA's, (but i watch a lot of tv shows on buying/flipping, etc)....to know i really would NOT LIKE to be involved in any such purchase that has an HOA.

then too, i want MY OWN LAND, meaning, i do not want to lease land, then build a house on it. as there is probably a way for the family of the land owner to break that lease, if he/she dies, even if one was to have a 99 year lease.

if i were to do that, then i'd be better off buying a double wide, on a slab.

i know the feeling on accumulating and getting rid of.

i had amassed maybe about $60,000 worth of mechanics tools, all the top name brands. today's price tag may hit the $100,000 mark.

anyway's i called a "used tool dealer" and sold off so much for cheap, just to be rid of it.

so what do i do..??

i started another tool set..lol....

but cheaper tools, like Kobalt, Husky, Craftsman, just for some small stuff for repairs to the snow machines, and general things around the house.

i know i could have kept all that i had, but then too, comes my age and moving that crap around. i am not fortunate enough to have a garage, all my crap, goes down one flight of stairs, to my cellar.

(hernia city)

then the past 2-3 years, all of us here have been throwing out useless crap of furniture, appliances, etc,etc...weekly as well in the trash...

Had a look at a few Bungalows in Sligo Town over the last few Days and picked out one that needs a huge amount of work to bring it up to scratch but equally has huge potential when finished which is the reason for it's knockdown price Tag... It even has a Workshop out the back which was an unexpected Bonus and is within walking distance of Shops / Church and the Town center, the local Cemetery is even nearby :biglaugh:... yet on the edge of the Countryside and overlooking the local Horse Racing Course...very quiet Area with settled Neighbors and no Kids...After we sell ours we would have plenty of Dollars left over to bring in a Builder and 1 or 2 Mths work ought to see us in...

The Auctioneer is coming out to see us and value our Property and take a few Photos...then it's just a matter of waiting...This Morning I endorsed my reason for the move when I began Mowing / Strimming the Lawns...usually a 1/2 Days work to complete everything , just about managed 1/4 in the same time before I had to pack it in til' tomorrow with the ruddy Back giving me Hell...still have not even touched on cutting back on last years Growth but at this stage I wont bother...leave it for the next Owner...

I've told the Neighbors of our intentions {close knit Area}and they were surprised but understood our dilemma and offered any help if we needed it...the Children Steven and Aideen are just a Phone call away and are ready whenever we need them to help out...even to the point of suggesting we move near them so as they would be nearby...lovely Offer but we would never do that {we're Independent / Stubborn Buggers} besides they have their own Lives to live and "What is seldom is Wonderful"...

No shortage of Offers to take any Garden Furniture we're leaving behind and if they could remove the Sheds to their own Property they would be gone as well...one Neighbor even offered to Buy my Native American collection which to me is Priceless having collected it over the past 40 years ...even my Wagon Wheels were being offered a good Home...my collection of Carpentry Tools weren't safe either but both collections are coming with me...I'm sitting here now in my "Tepee Room" just looking out over the Gardens and the work completed over the past 10 years and when you look over everything and take it all in it's a Hell of a lot of work for one Man but it was worth it...

Just in one of my Typing moods which could go on indefinitely but I'll spare ye all the grief...Thank you all for the wishes and your own experiences it was enjoyable reading them and seeing how you live over there...plenty more to write about but that's for another Day...

I'm still torn between an already remodeled house with a nice payment or a fixer upper with a so-so payment.

I'm leaning towards already fixed up. Because dammit if I ain't tired.

your
HOA fee's can go up at anytime!!! even if your neighbor don't pay there dues every month someones got to take care of them and bam there goes your dues being raised up!!! and if you don't pay on your dues every month the HOA can make your life a living hell they can put a lien on your home and even forclose on you faster than the bank can!! though you can ask for a payment plan but it does not mean that the hoa has to honor it also. you keep forgetting about one thin special assements those fee's can be eye opening to as well as another thing if 50% of the community wants tennis courts and swing sets and that 50% votes for it guess what your stuck paying for it weather you want it or not. if you do buy into an HOA you need to talk to the people that live there and see how they like living there and you need to read over the financials and see where every penny is going and see what there budget is!!!

That HOA crowd appear to be wannabe Dictators...we do not have that over here, the closest would be a Community effort whereby the locals contribute to a Fund to enable regular maintenance of Public Areas. I.E Grass cutting / Flowerbeds / Verges and general cleanup's...our local Councils award cash Prizes for the best Housing Estates which in turn boosts moral among the People and makes the Area a more "I wanna' live here"...the contributions are Voluntary and no one picks on the non-contributors as some of these Estates House the poorest of the poor...in many cases the Councils provide the Expertise and Plants when they see efforts are being made by the locals...

Apartment Complex'es do exist among the Private Purchasers but they are informed of the "Extras" before Buying...but several recent Court cases against Complex Managements were Judged in favour of the Owners when en-bloc complaints were made about poor Services, so power is might when people unite...our small Neighbour consisting of 6 Properties are looked after by ourselves and we regularly Mow / plant Flowers on the Public Roadside purely for our own comforts and to please the passing Eye... not everyone's Cuppa' but we're happy to do it...

PS...we don't have the Weather or Sunshine :cool-61: for Swimming Pools / Tennis Courts ...

you couldn't give me an HOA even more in a stick and brick home, oooppsss you got a weed in your yard were gonna fine you. you installed a satellite dish but were gonna fine you and make you pay to move it. OMG you left your trash cans out past the specified time another fine you forgot to paint your house or you painted it hot pink with bright yellow polka dots were gonna fine you and make you fix it. and were gonna fine you on a daily basis until it's fixed:mad:.. though if you think about it cities like these nazi communities. residents still pay taxes and the city don't have to do shit!!! these people seemed to be pissed off from sitting in traffic all day:confused-96::D

yeah, in the end, as i said in the beginning, i'd not want to buy any property that has an HOA..i feel it's MY HOUSE, MY PROPERTY...so STFU......

personally, i'd most likely not even have a lawn, but a drought resistant landscaping with drip lines.

i do not like satellite tv anymore, even though i have had it for about nearly 20 years. i prefer FiOS.

i always wash my garbage cans and recycling cans, so i need no one to tell me i must do it. in fact, jsut minutes ago, the recycling truck came by. i went out to take my dumpster back into my yard, earlier the garbage truck came on by....

what IS irksome, is that i own my home, in a city. many of the surrounding house, (not to me a home) are rentals, the landlords are absentee's....or show up on rent day or to show it off to a renter.

or not at all.....

talk about smelly, stinky garbage bins.

talk about dirty sidewalks, talk about weeds.....

talk about how i will be selling and getting the heck away from here..

once was a pristine, all owner occupied HOMES.........

i rue the days of investors coming in, buying up, renting out, reselling, etc,etc..all the time, those once nice HOMES fall into a severe case of disrepair....

"Your Home is your Castle"...that's a saying very often used over here and unless you specifically moved into one of these Complex'es with all of these Regulations no one can dictate to you how you run your "Castle"...exceptions are if there is a Health and Safety issue then you can be reported to the City / Town Authorities who will investigate the complaint and only they can decide what action to take...No HOA or it's equivalent has that power and quite honestly I'm confused how a bunch of private Citizens {and that's all they are}can take it upon themselves to tell you how to run your privately purchased Home...

It's Dictatorship at the highest level by a bunch of Snotty Nosed "I'm better than you" Committees who really need to get themselves a Life.................................:soapbox: ...I'm getting off my Box...Rant over...

People actually go out of their way to be in a Home-Owner's Association. It's almost always people who are used to living in a township or city with more strict codes and are buying a home to retire in somewhere in the country. They want the peace and quiet of country living, without all those nasty local red-neck types infringing on what their idea of "pretty" is. The rules are kind of ridiculous in some places.

Bayshore, across from Waldport, Oregon, is one of these places. You're only allowed to have indigenous plants in your yard. You must either leave the yard to beach scrub grass or, if you choose to have a lawn, keep it watered and mowed. If you have a tree, it has to be trimmed so that the neighbor inland from you can still see the beach. You can paint your house tan, dusty rose, smokey blue or sage green. Any other color is not allowed. Trim must be painted a darker shade of the base exterior color. If you're going to barbeque, you can't do it in the front yard. It has to be in back and it must be done before dark. You can have a pickup truck, but if you do, it can't be visible from the street. You can only have one car parked regularly in your driveway. If you have more than one car, you have to put them in your fenced back yard (natural wood, six feet high only) or garage. Under no circumstances are you allowed to park a boat or RV in your driveway, yard (not even in the back, behind the fence) or on the street. ....and on and on and on.. Developers pre-plan these communities with HOA CC&Rs in place before they pour the first foundation.

The idea is to keep riff-raff (read: locals) from moving in and living the way they have for generations. The people who buy into HOAs want city life without the city, so they move to a place where they deliberately pay a tax (HOA membership fee) to have somebody tell them what to do. They don't want uncultured locals living next door with Mustang GTs in the front yard on blocks.

It gets really stupid.

I. will. never. live. in. an. HOA.

Un-b-leave-able...{purposely spelt that way}...guess I best postpone my planned Emigration to Walport... If that's intended to keep out the Riff-Raff then I as sure as Hell would not want them as my Neighbours...there is Stupid and Stupidity and downright Snobbery combine all 3 and you get a shower of :bootyshake:-Holes...even in our elite Neighbourhoods like "Ailesbury Rd "in Dublin where a lot of Foreign Embassies are, Properties can cost up to $6,000,000,000 and every Garden has it's own style and uniqueness giving a variety of Colour and Charm as you walk by...the Roads are lined with Cherry / Apple Blossom Trees and not a single HOA in sight...if you can afford the price you can move without pre-conditions...

In an earlier reply it was stated that the HOA can make Life Hell for you if you don't Toe-the-line...what exactly can they do and who gave then these powers and has anyone ever stood up to them...it's mind boggling to believe that kind of Intimidation goes on in this Day and age....................CCCcchhheeesss...my Blood is boiling.....to the HOA...:tease:

You don't like it then don't sign the agreement and don't live there. Simple as that! I lived in one and liked it. There is no lack of people ready to take your place. You make it sound like they are forcing you to live there. Don't like it, go pound sand. My mother lived in one and so did I at one point and we both liked it. There are actual laws in most every town even if it's not HOA. Don't keep your place up within the standards of others and you can be forced.

All you rednecks can start your own HOA that says you can do whatever you want. Go rev the piss out of your wanna be Harley without mufflers at 2am and party all night on the front lawn with your puking buddies. Ya, that sounds awesome!!

why the insult to nearly all of us, with the redneck bullshit.>???

maybe YOU ARE LOADED with money (sounds like you are from past postings, especially with that $500 blanket) but many of us ARE NOT.

as a result, i find it to be offensive having an HOA tell ME what to do, and when to do it..and especially tell me I CANNOT PAINT MY HOUSE ANY COLOR I CHOOSE.....

yes, indeed, a city, or town, or village CAN fine one for code violations.(however, NOT usually for paint colors) ...but an HOA has thier own "code books" which far over do the normal. grass MUST BE a certain height...?? get off my back.

got dandelions on my grass..??? get off my back

have to pick up after my dog, when HE CRAPS ON MY GRASS...?? get off my back.

i can't paint my house cherry apple red.>??? get off my back....

anyone paying the outrageous HOA fee's are fools, pure, plain and simple....

but, ya'll rich folk.........like being bound at the neck with a leash.......it's what you paid for....seemingly cuz you have no balls otherwise to live away from the tyranny of an HOA.

no need to insult us as a group of people with that redneck bullshit.

my washing machine may be on my front porch, but dammit, i gots me no HOA telling me i can't have it there.....
