EC's Going For It

CSX did me dirty today. I've been on a wake up between midnight and 2am without an alarm kick all week with my stuff being ready to go. I woke up at midnight again naturally and my shit wasn't off the train and parked until about 8am. Thankfully I was able to nod back off and get more Z's but it pushed me later into this afternoon by the time I got back.

I like this 12-2AM start time stuff so I'd like to keep it going.

That was the time frame I always liked to get up and get going, anything earlier than that not so much.

Truck has been displaying a fairly persistent set of codes for the NOx inlet sensor (basically like an upstream O2 sensor on cars).

Finally stopped at the dealer since they had one and it was convenient between my drop and my pickup.

800 bucks and an hour after I got home it's in. Wasn't even as bad as I was expecting. Access was fairly easy. Just had to take the heat shield and a cover panel off and it stares you in the face.

I thought it would be tough to get it out of the exhaust but that wasn't even bad. Probably helped that I did it before it cooled off.

My fuel economy was taking a shit too so hopefully that comes back up. Roughness and excessive fuel and DEF are 3 major symptoms.

Managed to remember to stop in at the dealer so I'll get $114 refunded to my card for the core. So that's good. On my way up I was asked to do a yard pull, and I did. I hadn't gotten stuff like that in ages when I worked later now I seem to be getting those and other pickups I'd usually be too late to grab on a somewhat consistent basis. And I'm still usually home by noon or not long after.

The new sensor cleared the codes within a couple miles of leaving the house and the light itself cleared on its own a few key on/key off cycles later. About half way through my day or so. None of it has returned and it used to come back on super quick after self clearing.

It seems to be running better and better as the day went on and I think it's the ECM relearning its parameters since I didn't clear it all manually. I ran 55mph down and the chassis felt strange in a way I can't describe (let alone write up) and my fuel economy was pretty bad for that stretch and speed. But coming back empty and lightly loaded I ran pretty quick and got really good mileage. But I also had more detours and idling than usual plus I dragged the yard pull through town so that rendered it all kind of moot.

I won't count today for anything other than the trouble codes and check engine light.
