How the hell are you supposed to bolt something to a drill press?

How do you hold a 3/8" bolt head back? Can't get a wrench in there.

The thing I had to bolt to it was slotted for 3/8" but the drill press table is slotted for half inch.

Solution... 1" flat stock "washers" with the bolt heads welded to it.

Anyway,... I ain't done precision tubing joints since I was 15. So I'm re-learnin'.

This thing is a clamp that holds tubing and has its own arbor shaft that uses a hole saw for cutting the right shape into the tubing.

The old man is going to order some high quality steel tubing (this is just electrical conduit) cuz he wants me to make him a custom bicycle. That's why I'm dusting off the tube fabrication skills from yesteryear.

But first I gotta make a ladder rack for his S-10. I'll make that out of 2" electrical conduit because it's strong enough for the application but cheap.

Coming soon, to the duck barn.

Industrial pallet racks. 15 foot tall, 44" deep, 5 platforms per 8 foot section, includes OSB plywood & nine cut 2x4's per platform, $250 a section, or less if I go with fewer levels which I won't.

I'm going to make a me a 35 foot long Wall of Warehouse for $1000. :D

Strong stuff too. The ones I'm getting are currently loaded with concrete sculptures. They're going out of business.

20160605_175444.webp

No f***ing idea how I'm going to get all that stuff home. The semi trailers I pull are always loaded & there's no frighin' way to get a 53 footer in there anyway. But it's only 4 miles away so I'll think of something. ;)

Don't forget a forklift!
Why the hell would I need a forklift? :confused-96:

I'm going to convert each rack into a sleeper berth & adopt a bunch of orphans. Each kid gets his own 8x4x4 box to live in. :D

Actually there's a group of weirdos who tried to actually do that with a crappy looking raft. They were going to sail a raft around the world adopting stray children and making them live in dog houses whole teaching them about their hippy lifestyle or cult or whatever it was. :coocoo:

All of that will break down into 8' pieces I think. Haul it in the back of the bluford

You lucky duck!!! Getting it all for a heck of a good price. A bit of work for you but well worth it...Most of it will most probably break down smaller to haul....I have hauled in store shelf and steel display racks for my small workshop I have and used it to store small motors on and on the ends of the display racks hung the come a longs....That store stuff can do wonders for a workshop.

The verticals won't. They're all welded, nothings bolted. And they're 15 feet tall.

The bottom of the trusses in the barn are 14 feet. They'll probably fit between the trusses but if I have to straddle one, I can just cut off the top cross braces & bolt angle iron on at a lower height.

This all started because the Geezer migrated back up this way & at his age he doesn't want to waste any more winters sitting on his ass watching TV when "we" (I) could be working on "projects" (custom bicycles, motorized bike trailers and land sailers).

To do that we need to build a wall to separate the workshop area from the clutter area and make an insulated drop ceiling so we can heat it.

Yesterday we actually measured & sat down and I drew up a sketch of what I had in mind for using plywood & 2x4's. The plan all along was to line the cold side of the wall with shelving units. Geezer got on Craigslist trying to see if we could save a few bucks on the lumber & we saw the ad for OSB plywood in Manteno.

Turns out it was the owner of a concrete statue place. He's about my age, inherited it from his dad, but sold the business because he's been carrying concrete statues around his whole life and his back is f***ed up & he's hunched over like an old man. The OSB plywood he had listed were the shelves for these pallet racks.

The Geezer said we could build the wall out of pallet racks and just cover one side with plywood if the price was right.

Dude said he didn't remember the prices he put on Craigslist and wouldn't even ballpark it,... Neither of us could find the ad for the racks on our phones, just the one for the OSB. So he pulled it up on a laptop and walked away to go take care of a customer buying concrete crap.

I quickly figured what we'd need to make a 35 foot wall would add up to $1000. Geezer's eyebrows went up instead of down. Which means it's a done deal.

I figure we only need 5 verticals because they're designed for two adjacent sections to share one in the middle. But the guy is insisting on selling them two verticals per section so we're going to end up with 8 verticals.

The wall will end up being ten inches too short which is good cuz I don't want the legs of one of the verticals being right up against the electrical panel anyway. ;)

But with 3 extra verticals, if we get more horizontals ($25 a pair) there will be 18 feet of extra racks I could put somewhere or make scaffolding out of.

The airplane wing hauler is basically like what they haul big sheets of glass or stone on except they're light and flimsy because airplane wings don't weigh anything unless you're talking about big jets.

It's axle can't be rated for much at all. Just one skinny little tire on each side. But I figure I could haul at least two verticals at a time on it. Just 4 miles..

I just gotta get the canoe & the wheelbarrow & the tractor's tire chains off of it. And air up the left tire, which only holds air for about an hour....

The rest will fit in the bed of a pickup.

20160606_120215.webp

That axle is actually bent already because I hauled about 2 tons of 16 foot cedar 2x10 deck lumber on it when I was 17 or 18.... Multiple trips, off road, going fast through some spots because my pickup was only 2wd... To build a deck on a lawyer's hunting cabin, then did it again a week later when I took it apart and repo'ed the entire deck after he decided I was "the right age to learn a valuable life lesson about handshake agreements" & only wanted to pay me half what we'd agreed on.

Airplane wing hauler has a bad wheel.

I decided to pull it off & run it across the street to the tire shop cuz it was only holding air for 2 hours.

As soon as I jacked it up I noticed the hub was loose.

Some jackass, probably the retard my dad bought the trailer from in like 1984 cuz I can't recall ever having the hubs off of it, didn't put the washer in there between the outer bearing & the castle nut. As a result, the castellations were able to slip past the cotter pin. o_O

It must've been like that for decades

20160606_175601.webp

Bearings were intact but inner seal wasn't & they don't sell just the seals. Bastards.

So, new bearings,...$15 for hub kit. 78 cents for a washer.

Got to use my can crusher for a legitimate shopular purpose, pressing the new races & seal in. :yahoo:

Here's why the tire was losing air:

20160606_175552.webp

Dude was about to close so I just had him dismount the tire while I do this:

20160606_234032.webp

That wing hauler was made by a retard.

He put the axle WAY closer to the front than the rear. It's 18 feet plus tongue, and if I remember right the axle was 6 feet from the front. LOTS of tail swing & I had to weight it in the front to keep the hitch from coming loose. :coocoo:

I cut the leaf spring mounts off & was going to weld them on to place the axle 6 feet from the rear but my dad started squawking about it being too long of a wheelbase & hard to turn corners. o_O

I pointed at the 18 wheeler parked 100 feet away and said "say again?"

Ended up putting the axle dead center at the 9 foot mark.

Watching paint dry is boring so I'm organizing my sockets.

20160606_233945.webp

See that,... On the left that's communism. All commie-meter & in neat little rows except one oddball & a couple that escaped from the Gulag..

On the right..... Can you SAE FREEDOM? :usflag:

I've had this stupid thing for about 20 years, never used it once.

20160607_000612.webp

Got it for Christmas, probably from my mom or aunt, I don't remember.

It fits over any size hex from like 5/16" to 3/4".

Cool idea but what's going to happen the first time I actually put some torque on it?

:dunno:

I bet those pins will bend & it'll be useless.

So it's not good for anything but taking up space.... which means it goes on the left with the communists. ;)

I'm guessing you took a wire brush to bead seat of the rim? at least a hand one if not a wire cup on an angle grinder.
Wire wheel in the drill on the whole thing, but needed angle grinder with stone disc on the bead seat on the side in the picture. The other side was fine with just the wire wheel.

20160607_001806.webp

I've never found those drill types much better than using a hand brush, just off the top of my head I think most drills are geared to urn between 200 and 1200 rpm, angle grinders are up the 4000+rpm mark.

They're also much better shaped to hold and manoeuvre around the piece of work.

I just hitched the wing hauler to the Ranger & was about to back it into the shop to rewire the lights.

Then I remembered it aint got no freakin wheel on the left side.

:bonk:

What on earth do they teach in schools in the USA these days?

There you are dissing the Republicans and celebrating the Monarchists...

Metrics are French... Vive La Republique! The republic threw out the old system (which was similar to the english Imperial but different) and made up their own...

While SAE, owes it's existence to the pre-revolt English colonial days, they just standardised English measures throughout the Union... They're still imperial measurements based off things like the length of a kings nose or foot...

If you want commie measures, well... there is the "Mu" at about .16 acres, about what a man could hoe in a day by hand. Stuff like that. Chinese: 市制; pinyin: shìzhì

Or better yet, how about you come over here and organize me imperial king's nose sockets?

You have a boat, right? :toothpick:
