I got lucky on that end. My wife is very well taken care of by the VA. Otherwise it would have cost a small fortune to insure her as well as me through the company offered plan. By itself, my plan costs me $10/week. If I had added my wife, it would have been $243/week. That's just crazy! I insisted that she look into the VA about 10 years ago. It was the best thing we ever did as far as insurance goes.

It’s not going to be cheap but it’s time for me to get of the road.The neighbor has a huge dairy farm and a I’m sure I could get part time work running some of his equipment after all that’s how I got started.
I think it would be fun with the equipment he has,what a difference 50 years makes.And sleep in my own bed every night.

Not the roads as much as it is my wife wanting me home after 40 years. We bought a motorhome back in February and are leaving for a month in it in July for Wyoming and Montana we will see if she still wants me around that much after the trip.lol

That’s one of the many reasons the cab of a farm tractor out in the back 40 sounds so good.

I have a nice little piece of property I bought when I moved here that I rent out to RVer's, boats, trailers and basic vehicle storage. Between that income, my SS, my wife's SS and my Shell pension, I just don't feel the need to have to take the abuse that a job gives you these days. I paid my dues and now, I'm just done with it. I'll be very happy to lounge in my pool and spa while sipping drinks with the wife and puttering around the house.

By not traveling and buying useless nonsense, we made a nice nest egg for our retirement days. I'll do some part-timing at the local airport one or two days a week just to escape the house. As long as I don't have to deal with people, I'll be happy. I'll take care of the fuel farm and make things look good with a pressure washer.

I despise the stupid traffic too but I go insane at the rough ride. I've been pulling containers on spring chassis though and it's a constant slap. I spent too much money thinking it was my truck's fault for being in the quarry so many years, when it didn't change a damned thing.

On the rare occasion where it all comes together, I get a brief feeling that I could run all day every day. Then the slap comes back and I hate life again.

The real solution is either get away from anything spring ride or get off the roads altogether.

Another reason I ride fast in the middle lane. Though, I do move over for blue lights or a faster truck. The right lane is so damned chewed up. I hate getting beaten to death. I have all air ride, truck and trailer. The liquid load rides better than a dead weight dry load on the floor, but the day cab is what spoils it. The airbags are sitting under the rear of the cab, which is right under your ass, instead of 3+ feet further back on a sleeper truck. The pivot point is under the firewall. That leaves about 4 or so total feet of cab movement, which isn't much. Even with the cab and suspension shocks being changed, it didn't improve the ride. It's still a 'down, pop right back up' ride. My wheelbase is 260" which is great, it's the day cab that ruins it. My 300" WB trucks were like driving a nice car.

Yep all the points I talk to my dad about, except the tanker aspect. I never pulled one of those.

Day cabs aren't much better than a cabover, sitting right over the steer pogoing up and down.

The few air ride trailers I've pulled via Amazon and such did make a significant difference though.

If it wasn't my fuel and/or there was enough work to justify it, I'd run the middle or left fast as well.

I wanted to suggest to you to look into the tanker divisions. Screw OTR Haz-Mat. It's PITA. Pay/rates is/are great. Like what you, are doing, they absorb the IFTA, baseplate, pay fuel surcharges, bobtail, liability & cargo insurances. Home every day/night and multiple other things. I THINK, don't quote me, settlement is 72%. Might not hurt you to look into it. You have Penn Tank Lines in Chester Springs and Kenan out of Chapel Hill, N.C. The guys here are happy as hell working for them. Other than RGN, I would do anything else.

My financial advisor says we will be fine. I just can’t see myself sitting around I never have.
