What is the best CB to buy

The last 25 LTD I had I hooked it up to a 18 pill kicker. Hard wired it in to a honda generator and did well over 2000 watts. It was no problem to talk to people in Utah while I unloading my reefer in NYC
i never saw any reason to talk to anyone further away that in front of me, behind me, or going in the opposite direction.

i could care less if i was in NYC (and i was many times) what the hell was going on in Utah.

for all cared, it would have been a polygamist trying to find a way to escape his 42 sister wives. and i wasn't about to help his dumb ass.

I got a barefoot midland with a 4 foot Francis that I use to broadcast my latest country music single. I got a cease and desist letter from the FCC, but there isn’t much they can do since I’m broadcasting from a foreign trade zone.

Back in the day the ideal setup was a Cobra 25 turned down to 1/4 watt running to a foot long cell phone look a like antenna mounted to the windshield facing horizontally over the hood.

There were days I could talk to someone two truck lengths ahead of me and as far back behind me as the landing gear on my trailer. Having the power turned low I usually didn't burn out the finals for a solid week. Those were the good old days.

We I was trying to keep tabs on a arm wrestling match going on in the back row of the 76 truckstop out there and at the time , 1987, the CB was way more reliable as far as communication went than tv or telephone. I had bet $500 on a guy named Bull Hurley and he was going up against some whimp name Lincoln Hawks.

Well, Bull beat him according to the word on cb. A few months later they met up in Las Vegas and Hawks actually whooped ol Bull Hurley. I was extremely disappointed because I bet $800 and the remaining balance of drivers rewards points from my 76 card.

Did you buy that fancy Volvo off him?

yes, years ago, you could depend on the cb radio for good information and not all that much BS.

but as they became more as a toy and the 4 wheelers got in on the fad of having another gizmo, they started going downhill. i only used it when i would be running with several of my co-workers when we'd be going from MA to VA, or the return trip. i think that on average, once i past the Cross Bronx area (in either direction) i either turned it off, or spiked up the squelch, to hear nuffin.

my current job, i work nights and north of MA (my starting point) all the way up to ME, and back, it's quiet, as many of the drivers up there, are on a different channel.

Cheap and good quality do not belong together. That’s an oxy-moron.

I have 2 CB’s. My primary is a Connex General Lee and my spare is a Cobra 29lx. Both are good radios.

The same one Wal-Mart sells for $39.99 by the car stereos or the "Fancy" Cobra 19 the TruckStops sell for $79.99 for the Xtra forty bucks you get R/F Gain whereas Walmarts only has Squelch
I'll guarantee that the electronics in the Wal-Mart product are cheaper too. Companies have to do a serious effort at cost reduction before they can meet Wal-Mart's price point to get their product in the store.

get your self a cobra 25, you probably dont need all the fancy options, like whats on say a galaxy 99, and a wilson antenna, along with the best coax you can find
have the radio aligned by a good radio shop, and have them hook everything up, make sure the SWR ratio is done.
a guy could have a connexx or galaxy radio, and it aint worth a tinkers damn if the antenna is junk

My son and I were looking through our (mostly my) radios today. I have a Cobra 138 SSB analog, 23 channel, side band; Cobra 21 XLR; Cobra29 LTD Sound Tracker; Uniden PC 78; and a General Lee. My son has a 77X analog 40 channel.

I kept upgrading until I got the General Lee. I'm sure there are better ones out there, but it's good enough for me.

Cool man!
I thought I had way too many radios that I never use. I have A Cobra 29 and a Uniden PC 78 that has had work done to it.

We got cell phones now and I think your license plate number should be your cell phone number!
