Was it good for you? *wink wink*

Was 2020 a good year for you personally? Was it a good year professionally?

Both? Neither?

Did you die of the COVID?

Same as it ever was, Same as it ever was, This once in a lifetime Virus didn't change any thing for me other than wearing a face mask to make others feel safe and paying more for groceries.

Letting the days go by, water flowing underground. Same as it ever was. Same as it ever was -Talking Heads.

But what I really want to know is when I can go back and get drunk with my friends?

Yes. 2020 was a good year for me.

Professionally:

Even with the outrageous amount I got stuck running around Chicago every week, to the point I was seriously considering leaving this company and bugging @Hammer166 about car hauling, that pattern finally broke toward late fall, and at years end I have grossed more than any year ever at Walmart.

Despite the fact they decided to arbitrarily screw with our bonus schedule and do some weird COVID bonus thing which goofed a lot of things up, they offered huge bonuses to extend our work weeks the entire last quarter of the year, and even though in Wisconsin these are taxed at a higher "award rate" I did very well financially this year.

I reached 500,000 accident free miles in 3 years 12 months which is fairly rare given all the short haul stuff this fleet does. I got a neat patch on my uniform like a new merit badge, a handwritten letter from some dude on the Walmart Road Team in some place called "Arkansas". I got decals to put on whatever truck I'm eventually permanently assigned to, and a framed certificate. My name joined the 500,000 accident free mile group on the display in the break room.

A few weeks later I started getting my 4 year longevity stuff. Which is a pin that goes in a belt buckle that depicts a Walmart truck. That I don't really wear, and neither does anyone else which is why they quit giving them out.

I got a congratulatory letter saying I had "no coachable Lytx camera events for 90 days", which I guess is good. I know I had some camera uploads this summer, but the safety guy must have thought they were all justified. A bit of an eye-roller but I guess any "atta boy" is better than any "aw shit".

During the initial lock downs I enjoyed a very good run of almost zero traffic just about 7 days a week even in large cities. That was pretty awesome.

So professionally the year ended on a very high note.

Personally...

I got rid of a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 with almost 190,000 miles on it and got a 2018 F150. Not to be outdone, my wife went and got a 2020 Explorer XLT. 🙄 The 2015 Traverse that was paid for currently sits in Grandmas garage awaiting my son to get his license.

Personally I think he should have to get some crap job to bike 4 miles a day to like I did, but we are also supposed to do better for our kids than we did ourselves, so there's that. Also, we didn't have sub zero weather and insane snow where I grew up.

Because of the school closings I was able to spend more time with my kids, even though I worked more. I don't think that's ever happened before. I doubt we will ever see it again. Its an odd paradox, but for me a huge positive.

We had to cancel a huge Disney vacation we had planned, but honestly I didn't want to go anyway. Try as I might I cannot convince my wife that you DO NOT want to be in Florida in July. I was born there, and tried to live in Florida twice. Still, it falls in deaf ears.

Instead we did some other stuff in state that was not closed. Even though my governor is a Democrat hes been one of the less tyrannical ones. The Republicans sued him when he tried. Checks and balances and all...

Don't turn this thread political, it's just an off hand observation.

I got a new recliner to put downstairs in my man cave to plop my ass in and play video games and rot my brain some more.

I got a new concealed carry weapon for Christmas I'm taking to the indoor range this Saturday.

I was able to submit a short story that I wrote for a sci-fi nerd universe thats still under review after seven months. Which is ridiculous, but given the limited staff handling the universe and the stuff they're doing its understandable.

I also completed a 52,000 word novel I started in 2019 those same people did not ask for and rejected. They really don't accept unsolicited material. Its been relegated to "fan-fiction" status and remains in my hard drive.

I let @Mike convince me to start writing articles for this place again. Some day I'm going to be so rich from that I'm going to buy my own island and none of you will ever hear from me again.

Through the dreaded social media I was able to find two or three or maybe four friends from the Marine Corps that I hadn't talked to since I got out in the 90s. They all seem to be doing okay.

I'm sure there's some stuff I'm forgetting, but all in all for me 2020 was a pretty good year.

It's easy to jump on the bandwagon and talk about how crappy the year was. But for me it was not.

This was a pleasure to read! Enough negativity for one year.

2020 was a great year for me.

I left an employer I truly loved working for and advanced myself to a better job in terms of my skill set and financially. Making the move was one of the harder decisions I've had to make in my life.

I did not shoot my buck this year. I was on a several year streak but that's the way it goes. I upped my food plot acreage which has become my favorite hobby. I thank the lord almost everyday that I'm so fortunate to have land to run on and pursue game.

2021 will be even better then 2020.

Good money sure although everything else was screwed up.

We are living in perilous times and about all I can do is be alert for when that other shoe is about to drop.

There is alot more to life than money that said we all need money although I find myself sick of the preoccupation that comes with chasing material things.

Lately I have been trying to find that true happiness on the inside.

Sure that seems crazy although once I realized the elevator was broken I started taking the stairs.

Money makes me happy. Hobbies make me happy. Hobbies are expensive.

I used to have hobbies but work got in the way of my true passions.

Nowadays I'm old and outta shape.

For all that fat bank account I write out and mail lots of checks to insurance companies and pharmacies.

Makes me realize that time is a very Finite resource and that I need to take alot better care of myself.

Do you like ravioli?

Just wondered you sound like someone else I know.
I tell you when I go places folks often say don't I know you from somewheres.

Now 99.9 percent of the time we don't but I just seem to have that familiar look for whatever reason I guess.

Welp that's just the way our dear lord made me and who am I to question God.

One thing is for sure, God must have a helluva sense of humor.
