Oh yeah, but then they'd have to actually look in the mirrors and comprehend the situation, or at least, think of someone besides themselves.

"But my GPS didnt say anything about looking in the mirrors!"

"Trucks driving in both lanes" is a result of all these companies governing their trucks, many times at ridiculous speeds.
If truck A is governed at 62 and truck B is governed at 62.25 its going to take truck B a while to pass truck A.
Now if the moron in truck A took his eyes off his cell phone for a minute, realized what was going on, and canceled his cruise control for 5 seconds, truck B could pass him 10 times faster. But unfortunately, many drivers dont have the common sense or courtesy to do that......After all, 5 seconds is a lot of time to drop 2 mph.
I get stuck behind these morons and their worlds longest drag races all the time. It is very frustrating. Especially when there are 50 4 wheelers behind me thinking Im the one holding up traffic, because its taking truck B forever to get out of the passing lane.
But where does one draw the line in the sand? What if a person is doing 55 in a 55 and is holding up traffic? Does he have a responsibility to break the law and get out of every bodies way?
What if the speed limit is 80 and your doing 65, but come up on a person doing 55; are you not allowed to pass because you can't or don't want to drive 80?
It would be nice, but no. How would you write a ticket for someone for obeying the law? You can't have laws that conflict with each other.

Where is there an 80 mph speed limit on a 2-lane road?

In Kansas, most 2-lane roads have a 65 mph speed limit. Occasionally I've come up on some slow governed Swift truck or something. I think if the vehicle is incapable of going the speed limit, on a 2-lane road, if passing is not possible (or safe), the slow vehicle should be required to pull over whenever a faster vehicle approaches from behind. Driving on the shoulder should be legal for this purpose. I've had old geezers in their 40 year old farm trucks get onto the shoulder and let me pass them in Kansas where the 2 lane roads have paved shoulders that are wide enough to safely do that.
That's a stupid law in calif just like it's against the law to have your flashers on if going thru a mountain and slow.So if you're driving the speedlimit and 5 vehicles are behind you which means they wanna pass you speeding, you still have to pull over?Texas has 80mph speed limits. Also, in Texas you will get a ticket for for driving on the shoulder to allow somebody to pass. IN California the law reads that you have to pull over if being followed by 5 or more vehicles on a single lane road (each direction).
I think if you cant run the speed limit you shouldnt be on the road in the first place.
These companies turning their trucks down to 62 and even lower is ridiculous!

I didn't know it was the law you can't use your flashers in CA? Has anybody else heard of this? I know its required in some places.
The CA law does not make it clear if you have to pull over and you are doing the speed limit. Probably something for a court to decide. Technically you would still be breaking the law.

The speed limit is the MAXIMUM speed you are ALLOWED to travel by law (under ideal conditions). You can actually get a ticket for driving the speed limit in some places, under certain circumstances.
The posted speed limit is not a requirement and in most places there is no law to suggest such.

It SHOULD be a requirement on 2-lane roads. By going slower in an area where passing is impossible or unsafe, you're preventing others from being able to reach the maximum allowable speed, therefore are impeding traffic.
Thats all well and good, but we all know that going 55 on a wide open interstate makes you feel like you are barely even moving.
Speed limits stay down so the revenue stays up.
Speed limits have been on the rise nation wide for the past 30 years denying revenue to enforcers.
Since I pay for my own fuel I don't travel any faster than I have to.

Funny that you mention that Duck , I was listening to a radio show and they were talking about how the laws very from State to State and they were just talking about a trip from Mass (I think) to Florida (That i'm sure of). Can they not have uniform rules across the board ? I mean after all it is an Interstate system and IMO should be govorned federaly .You know what's the worst?
How many million miles of roads do we have in this country? Why is it that every state expects us to "know" what their secret restrictions are on every mile of highway when they don't bother, or flat out REFUSE to post a sign?
