Truckers Strike April 1, 2008

Not really........if the fuel pumps at truck stops are blocked and you need to fuel and cant then its not your fault you had to shut down.

Maybe with the big mega bottom feeder carriers that you will soon figure out you didnt wanna work for anyways.

Yeah, I know that I may not want to work there, but then again maybe I will. Until some of the "better" companies hire noobs, I don't really have much choice do I?
If this really does happen, think of all the good quality noobs that those actions would affect. If I am forced to shut down because you won't let me fuel, are you gonna pay my rent and utilities and put food on my kids plate? Didn't think so. If you want to shut down, more power to ya, but you shouldn't force others to.

Nope.
The entire POINT of a shutdown isn't to make it convenient for everybody so that life goes on as usual.

It's the same thing I keep telling congressmen.
You can either stop the foolishness voluntarily or it will stop anyway - the hard way.

So, what is the whole point? Better pay? Less regulation? Both? Aren't there some that are ok with how things are? Can "some" speak for "all"? Like I said, if some are not happy, then they should absolutely do what they need to do, but in doing so, that shouldn't affect those that are happy.

In 2008 the reason for the strike was fuel was killing everyone.....As an o/o you have to make a certain percentage in order to survive and make a profit and it wasen't happening....That's pretty much the short of it..

Fuel prices are horrible for everyone, gasoline as well as diesel. But good luck getting everyone to stay home and not go to work. I have a hard time puting enough gas in my truck to get me to work and back, let alone get to and from school.
Believe me, I do understand the problem for y'all and empathize with you. It really is a crappy situation. God speed to all of you in taking a stand. I just hope it doesn't have negative reprocussions for some.
Man, what a dillema. What to do.....what to do.
I wish everyone the best of luck in whatever your position is.

Fuel prices are pretty much right back there now, and rates are no better today than they were in '08 for the most part. Makes me wonder why people aren't crying now. Or maybe most have been driven to bankruptcy and it's the era of the mega fleets that's the difference today.

There has been no talk of a serious strike since 2008, this is just an old thread that someone has revived and everyone is expressing opinions...
So don't worry about it, you don't have to try to figure out what to do...lol...
You just missed all the things that took place then...

This is true....
Like everything else, I guess everyone excepts it now......My husband is pretty good with his loads and making money but it will NEVER be the way it was when he first started....You work longer hours for less money......Currently though he is looking for a new career and get out of the business and never look back.

I'm not worried, but thanks. I am a survivor, and whatever will be will be. The man upstairs will make sure me and my family are taken care of in any situation. I just keep on keepin on, and things just seem to work out in the end.(usually..lol)
I try to always keep in mind some words of wisdom my mom always reminds me of when things are tough....."This too shall pass". Moms are the best.

You were the one who said you had "big bills" to pay in another post.
And while I'm not rich be any means I dont live beyond my means either. My monthly bills add up to around $2k and of that a house I have ranted out pays about 1/4 of that. So about 3 days of work I got the rest covered.
I had them "big monthly bills" to pay before and I ran my ass off to pay them off ASAP so I wouldn't be a slave to a banker.

well aren't you the lucky one to own more than one house, and you "rant it out"..

i only have to work a week myself, and my mortgage is covered as well. "big bills" can be just either a figure of speech, or "big to me". i am no more "saddled in debt" than you are.

I can say the same to you when it comes to the history of trucking.

i do not give a flip about trucking history or the world, or Iran or Iraq, or anything else..

trucking is no more then a job, like so many other "jobs".

it's a job, i work, i get a paycheck.

And just why do you thank it would be "stupid" for someone to take a stand for their rights as truckers? Do you think are military men and women are "stupid" for being sent overseas in a conflict that you dont agree with?
I for one have never served my country in the military but I have never ever thought of them as stupid for being sent into a conflict that I didnt agree with.

why are you bringing the military into a trucking situation..??

totally irrelevant, and you went off on a tangent. stay focused on the thread/topic.

and for the "record", when Nam was going on, my "number" at the draft board was never called either. nor did i ever join up.

Lol. What a great movie. No pain, no gain right?

Great movie yes. But its the fact of taking one in the ass then asking for another and another and another. At what point do you say enough is enough?

Think of it as the Feds with the paddle and you as a trucker bent over. Clear now?

Yes Tim, I understand. Just adding some levity to the topic.

Remember in the 90`s when they tried to break the union with UPS? I saw a UPS stepvan, with management in the stepvan with the driver. It was news all around, that management was going to start driving, and they are determined to break the union. Well, that day, management probably still remembers me, After I almost, Accidentally, Almost, Didn`t try, Ooops, I didn`t mean it, Didn`t see ya, after the back of my trailer almost put him in the WALL. We have tried many times to organize a strike, never worked. Now these days, Its the same old circus, but a whole bunch of different clowns.

that's ever so true...

different set of clowns, same old rhetoric, same old hot air, same old BS from those that can talk the talk, but noting else.

Even the OOIDA has gone on record as saying a strike serves no purpose.

Someone can look that up.

Once again Glenn, that's fine, everyone is entitled to their opinion.
But understand this .......one more time.
I DON'T GIVE A DAMN WHAT "THEY" SAY.

Hey rebel .... Totally off topic, but what is that on your plate in your avatar? Looks like some asparagus that you seem to be pretty proud of. Just wondering. Also wondering....do you still got the mullet? Again, just wondering.
