Truckers Strike April 1, 2008

Today, so far i have spent my day emailing my local newspaper,Dave Ramsey@ FOX BUSINESS,Goodmorning America, ABC News with Charles Gibson and i plan to carry on from there. I am letting them know this is not over and we are organizing for round two. I am giving them the email address, The American driver. com so they will know we are serious. I am also requesting they let businesses know to put signs in their windows in protest. The american people need to know their not alone and they can fight back.

kudos to you. keep up the good work. i hope your persistance pays off.

Ok everybody. We had some great discussion in this thread for the most part, and with almost 50,000 page views to this thread alone, I think it is safe to say we successfully directed a large amount of attention to the April 1 Shutdown.

Now it is time to direct our attention to another rally. This rally and potential shutdown includes not only truckers, but also all citizens. Basically everyone that drives and is effected by these outrageous fuel costs, as well as the money that brokers are scamming from truckers causing the rates to be forced up and the cost of groceries to go up as well.

Join us in the following thread and let's get the word out for a big rally on April 12, 2008, followed by a potential shutdown on May 5th.

i am so sick and tired of hearing about a strike. it's not gonna happen or at least one big enough to do any good and drivers don't have the money to do a real "strike". why don't drivers look at other options that would do some good. like running legal and refusing loads that can not be done legally. and stop allowing shippers/recievers to treat drivers like crap and acting like we have all day to hang around. do the same back to them. one thing i do is i don't wait well. if they try to tell me it is gonna be awhile or they cannot take it today for some odd reason then i just tell them thats fine , i'll just take it back to the shipper and they can pay for another delivery. when they see i am serious they seem to have a change of heart and recieve there stuff.
You would be proud of me. The other week I was getting loaded at a chemical plant in Michigan. As any Owner Opperator, I was worried about the usual stuff. Are they loading me with HAZ MAT? LOL. But no they were loading me with 38883lbs of Non Hazmat. This load was only supossed to weigh 16000lbs. I bargained with the broker for a while. He wasnt budging so I made them unload It. Ive never done that before. I just said to myself. "Im not going to be pushed around I cant afford the fuel." I hope this inspires someone else to stand up for themselves to.
Large corporate brokers keep a file on you. If you take freight for a cheap rate and let them runover you, everyone at that brokerage firm will do the same. Why do you think they put you on hold while negogotiating with you. There checking your file. All your load history is there.

I want everyone who has posted on this post to do me a very small favor. When you get home. I want you to stand in your front door and look at your neighbors house's and ask yourself (If I could stop working for 4 days or go one week without a check and make a huge difference in their lives would I do It?) Will you stop for 4 days so I can afford to provide for my family?
Im begging each and every one of you to help us owner opperators out PLEASE! Ive been running for 2 1/2 years out here. 1st year I went negative. 2nd year I made a little over $7000. My wife just lost her job because she got a speeding ticket. (In the car)
Alot of people say the last shutdown didnt make a difference. Well I was a small child back then but I remember we drove cars my Grandpa bought for us in the early 80's because my dad was strugling to make a living. We lived in a rented house on a dirt road and all the neighbor's were struggling as we were.
After the shutdown we moved into a house my dad bought, and we had new cars in the driveway. We lived good all through the 90's brand new 92 Mercury Tracer, 93 Mercury Topaz, 93 Ford Thunderbird " custom model with a Motorsport ediition 5.0", 94 mercury Gran Marquis, and another 95 Thunderbird. Theres a new Lincoln in there somewhere. Dad was a Ford man but all the same.
Not to mention that my brother, sister, dad, and me, all had brand new motorcycles in 1993. All paid for by my dad. Of cource we promised to pay him back. lol
People have a way of forgeting the good times and focusing on the bad.
My point is after the last shutdown people lived a better life. You may not realize it but all of the american economy depends on the american trucker. Most of the people in the 20-35 age group will tell you that somewhere along the line they have gotten help from a truckdriver. Their are alot of family's in this country that count on daddy to come home with a paycheck. WILL YOU HELP THEM?
Everything you do doesnt have to be for you and your family IT COULD BE FOR THE COMMON GOOD.

them was days, back then I had a lot of hope that truckers could and would come together for a common cause, and do remember that more than a few did problem was them that did got hammered by the people that they were trying to help.
today I just give up and do my own thing, one of these days this truck is going to give up the ghost, either that of the government is going to regulate me out of business for one reason or another and that will be that as I am not going to EVER buy another truck and I am sure not going to spend tens of thousands on this one to comply with regulations that do nothing but relieve me of my hard earned money.
nor will I go thru anymore expensive BS about my medical the sleep apnea testing and associated BS that went along with it was more than enough!!!
So someday soon the government will find a way to put me out of business and when that days comes I as a professional driver will gladly hand over the reigns to the new breed of steering wheel holders that are gracing the mega companies today, the ones that think they are making great money completely unaware that they are so brainwashed that they are clueless as to what their real worth is.:rolllaugh::rolllaugh::dunno::bonk::bonk::bonk:

Not to mention that their trainers had a whole 6 months in big truck trucking before they taught them everything they know.......

as I recall membership skyrocketed at that time, it was a fun and exciting time real hoping for change

And they were all looking at this thread or posting their version of what truckers needed to do and how the other trucker's idea was all wrong. 1000 different people all arguing with each other about who was right, LOL.

i

how many truckers does it take to change a light bulb??

no one has ever found out,all the truckers would do was sit in the dark and bitch about it

I'll never (and i do mean never) go on strike. I got big bills to pay, so i need to keep working. strikes are useless. strikers end up losing in the end.
good for you, the socialist that control our government are counting on the sheeple of the the masses to keep thinking like that!!!

strikes make no sense. I once knew of a teamster driver, in fact, when i was in trucking school, he was a road instructor. he worked for Hasbro Toys. The teamsters held a strike, whether it be a legit strike, or a wildcat, i do not remember, as this goes back to the near late 1980's.

All the toys had been delivered to the various warehouses that Hasbro had at the time. the strike i think was in september/october of that year.

wanna know what happened..??

i'll tell you.

no retiring at the end of a 25 year working for the company, they HAD TO WAIT till they turned 62/65 for retirement benefits.

health care was cut drastically.

no more saving up vacation time, and retiring early, use it or lose it.

and a few other heart breaking things.

i laughed my azz off at him.

here he was a "big union, gotta go on strike guy"

and he and his cohorts LOST.

wanna know why..??

Hasbro had them by the "short hairs", as ALL THE TOYS were in the warehouses. from there, NO teamsters were needed to deliver them>>>!!!!!

i laugh at strikes and the mention of them.
