Truckers Strike April 1, 2008

Yep, there is a large segment of the population who laugh, either because they have no problems in life or don't care if anyone else does.
And some laugh because of examples above.
Poor organization, poor timing, outrageous demands, bad behavior, etc - are all reasons for such disdain.

Too bad you've never seen something done the right way for the right reasons and get the right results.
It just might open your eyes.

Unfortunately, I think the opportunity to get this whole country back on track has already passed, mostly due to the attitude of "No, No, No, that won't work, I don't want to".
It IS after all, the way the majority feel, so let them reap what they sow.

IF however, an opportunity arises to show you EXACTLY how to pull off a major nationwide shutdown, NOT with a million truckers, but only a few dozen dedicated, well organized people - I can promise you that your a$$ will be on strike with the rest of us, whether you want to, like it - or not.

Just because you can't or won't doesn't mean jack to me.

I don't care if it means jack to you or not. i laugh at the strikers stupid disorganized selves.

i will continue to work, like i have during any so called strike some have claimed there was.

i laugh out loud, i laugh out proud.

while the jerks are on strike, my money is coming in.

The "me" mentality that Glenn possesses is part of why things like this fail.

Another big problem is people continue to work in situations that they shouldn't work in. If companies didn't have employees, they would be forced to change policies. Same goes for owner operators, if the situation is bad, don't get in it.

But, there are too many who are in this industry that simply don't care enough to force a better situation.

10 years ago, I drove a truck for .35 cents a mile. People are driving for that and less now.

There are companies that put you in a pay structure that pays over .40 per mile once you have a little experience, yet people still fill the seats of truck that pay significantly less. Not me, I'm not getting into a truck for .40 per mile unless I am starving and there are no better options available.

One reason I somewhat like things like CSA is that people who are out here "existing" because they are happy just making enough money to pay their bills and scrape along without much effort are being weeded out. I have started liking e-logs and EOBR's because it is forcing people into a more legal way of running, preventing them from driving 5,000 miles a week for .25 cents a mile. Eventually, my pay per mile will go up even more than it is now because of these changes.

Go ahead and laugh.
What you don't know is that if you are sitting in a shut down interstate, you WON'T be working and I WILL be laughing

Think about THAT for a while.
Then think about how you are going to work when the rest of the country isn't.
Think that money is going to keep flowing in to you when there isn't any?
Pretty funny, huh?

the interstates will never be shut down. the cops will have tow trucks out in force, drivers will be cited, fines will be imposed and trucks will be impounded, think about that why dun't cha.

there will always be truckers running the freight, whether they be company drivers, o/o's, etc. any company driver not running will be fired. any o/o not running will lose his truck.

yeah, it IS pretty funny how you think, isn't it...??:bootyshake:

Well Glenn, that's the beautiful thing about the USA. We all have a right to our opinions and can express them freely, regardless of popularity, logic or humor.

Yours is by far the most popular and is backed up by history. It certainly hasn't happened so far, and maybe it never will.
But I can tell you for a fact that it is indeed possible. Anyone who has ever been stuck on an interstate during a major backup can testify to that.
And those are the result of ordinary, everyday, unplanned events.
Imagine what would happen if it was planned and executed using time tested tactics that have been known for thousands of years.
Ever read "The Art of War"?
If you haven't, you're in the majority. However, it is required reading for every great general in the history of the world.
Just a word to the wise.
In accordance to the principles in that book, I'll say no more about the tactics.
It was nice to revive this thread again, since I'm pretty sure it was what came up on Google a few years ago and resulted in my joining this forum.
Good luck to all and God bless America.

Really? I guess you were to young to remember the '74 strike. J.W. Edwards and a few others had the balls to shut down I-80 in Pennsylvania. In other places truckers blocked fuel pumps. BTW Edwards was a company driver.

Sometime standing up for what is just and right comes at a price.

any o/o not running will lose his truck.
Any and I mean ANY owner/operator that cant afford to take off for a week is doom to fail soon. Just as you posted you got big bills to pay and you cant take off, well its not are fault you saddled your self up in debt up to you eye balls that your now a slave to your carrier.

The thing about a strike is, it wouldn't take EVERY driver to get it done.....All you have to do is get enough involved to tip the scales in the drivers favor....Just enough for loads to sit...So i still believe it would be possible when drivers decide they've had enough...

I wasn't driving back that far.

what price stupidity..???

I am no more a "slave" to my carrier, as I would be to ANY employer in ANY industry, I need to work to pay my bills. Are YOU that rich you have absolutely NO DEBT yourself.??? you can only wish you were, right..???

I got bills, so do you and everyone else, who said I was "saddled"...??? did i...??? i think not.
best to know what you say, before you say it, chum.

SHE gets it.
With a few dozen well trained volunteers, the whole country can be shut down for a week - and that's all it would take.

Will it come with a high price? You betcha.

I haven't even started driving yet, so it would be kinda hard for me to strike. Lol.

More power to you all though.

I would think that striking as a noob, would be a good way to end my career before it even starts. I guess that would keep me busy though if y'all strike.

that's right. try getting a job after you have been fired for refusing to work. good luck.

what you need to realize, is that these truckers here, and on many other website boards, "talk the talk", but never "walk the walk"

it is all the typical trucker's rhetoric.

they like to get everyone's blood pressure up.

other than that, they can't and will not ever get together and actually do anything.

about as much "hot air" spoken, as there is in our tires after a 500 mile run.

You were the one who said you had "big bills" to pay in another post.
And while I'm not rich be any means I dont live beyond my means either. My monthly bills add up to around $2k and of that a house I have ranted out pays about 1/4 of that. So about 3 days of work I got the rest covered.
I had them "big monthly bills" to pay before and I ran my ass off to pay them off ASAP so I wouldn't be a slave to a banker.

best to know what you say, before you say it, chum.
I can say the same to you when it comes to the history of trucking.

And just why do you thank it would be "stupid" for someone to take a stand for their rights as truckers? Do you think are military men and women are "stupid" for being sent overseas in a conflict that you dont agree with?
I for one have never served my country in the military but I have never ever thought of them as stupid for being sent into a conflict that I didnt agree with.

Not really........if the fuel pumps at truck stops are blocked and you need to fuel and cant then its not your fault you had to shut down.

would be a good way to end my career before it even starts
Maybe with the big mega bottom feeder carriers that you will soon figure out you didnt wanna work for anyways.

You can think that drivers can not get organized enough for a strike but I have to disagree...

In March 2008 my husband took it upon his self to orgainize all the drivers at his company and asked them to all stay home on April 1st.....
Even the office manager said he understood and backed the drivers UNTIL April 1st came and no one showed up for work and customers started complaining about their loads..

That evening at about 3:00 the office manager called my husband and BEGGED him to come back and bring the other drivers back.....IT WAS AWSOME!!!!..
