These are owner operators.
But... Forced dispatch, cameras... F* 'em.
They're not independent if they can't refuse a dispatch. At least that's how I see it. And it's a douchbag company if they require cameras in ANY trucks, even their own. So f*' em.
I'd say sue them out of business except for the "case precedence" bullshit that can ruin it for everyone.
I don't give a rat's ass about Elaine Chao. It has nothing to do with this lawsuit.
Furthermore, drivers are required to install company-issued cameras to enable Vulcan Materials to observe and monitor their work. Drivers are not allowed to refuse assignments without repercussion, plaintiffs claim.

I don't know the laws of Georgia. Do they require intrastate authority for processed quarry products? I wonder if they have a lease agreement and have the Vulcan name on the trucks.
The way I look at this is that if any of those drivers were working for another truck owner hauling for Vulcan then they have a rightful claim against the owner, not Vulcan. If they are owner-operators that have contracted with Vulcan then labor laws do not apply.

Both of my driveways will need gravel this year.
I get it from a local quarry that uses O/O's. Not Vulcan. It's like "Prairie Group" or something. I'll try to remember to ask questions.
I think the delivery fee last time for 20 tons was $75. The quarry is 5 miles away from here. So he got $7.50 a mile on that one.
The truck was an old Pete 3_9 day cab. It was immaculate. I wouldn't have known he was an O/O if I hadn't complimented his truck.
I've heard that dump trucks are good money around here but only if you own the truck. Company dump drivers were making $10/hr. in 2004 last time I looked into it.

Around here I don’t know of any companies running rock that will lease an o/o on, you have to have your own authority. Which is why I said that.
However after doing a bit of research I found out that Vulcan owns Statewide Transport who will lease on o/o.

What we have is a failure to communicate.
There is a lot of that in Sc. Even asphalt companies will lease you on.
I had asked a friend who’s been doing it off and on since the late 70’s, he said there used to be one but they also done long haul. Another friend has 8 trucks running rock I asked about leasing on to him and he said his insurance company wouldn’t allow it so he helped me get set up with his main customer of 25 years instead since I didn’t want to drive one of his trucks.
