...put more sugar into more food and beverage items than is necessary. Even things you wouldn't think have or need sugar have it in them, like bread.
You have to put sugar in bread, otherwise the yeast won't grow and make it rise. I usually put it into the liquid part that will be poured into the flour.
Frybread recipe:
2 c (give or take) flour
1 c lukewarm water
2 tbsp yeast
1 tbsp sugar
1 tbsp butter
1 tsp salt
Mix everything together except the flour, mix and let sit about 5 minutes, until a thin layer of foam appears on top.
Pour it over the flour and mix with a fork. Knead lightly, adding more flour as needed to make a pliable dough. Do not knead more than absolutely necessary.
Let the dough rise for about an hour, until it doubles in size.
In a frying pan, heat oil or shortening about ½ inch deep until a pinch of dough bubbles and floats when dropped in.
Meanwhile, roll a small handful of dough with a rolling pin or water glass until it's about ⅛ inch thick. Make the breads as big around as you want, but remember they have to fit in the pan.
Fry the bread until it's golden brown on each side (turn it over at some point in cooking....you gotta tell some people everything...)
Drain on paper towels and eat it with whatever you want.
If you want Indian tacos (easy, fellas, not that kind) put whatever taco fixin's you want on the bread and eat it like a tostada or Taco Bell Mexican Pizza. I like beef, chili, cheese, lettuce, fresh salsa, green onion and sour cream on mine.
Racer X 69, the sugar has to be there, or the bread would be like a hardtack cracker.
