If all drivers were great drivers, and ran legal loads, kept the trucks in mint condition, then scales, inspections, etc wouldn't be needed at all. Sadly that is not how people are in my experience. While 4 out of 5 drivers, and trucks may be good, that last 1 in 5 is the problem. Just yesterday, I saw so many infractions, down right dangerous things, and idiots on the road. For the minute or two it adds to cross a scale, it doesn't bother me doing so at all.

Scales are an Uneccessary nuisance..

There is too much traffic these days and no good reason to pull every truck off the road.

Again those Illegal are bypassing them anyways

Scales are just about an afterthought these days. You will randomly be pulled in, and stand the chance of being inspected at that point. This is a good thing.

If you are running for a company with lots of violations, or your company has lots of violations, you are going to be pulled in more. Again, a good thing.

They already know who's Good & Bad they can set up extra patrols and Pullover the Bad ones for a "Roadside"..

Roadsides are dangerous, and they don't pull everyone over. Only a small percentage goes into the scale, and the vast majority of them are going in for a reason. That reason is a bad score.

The rest of that time Drivers are stuffing their faces watching television or they go in the store and buy beer..

The hell you talking about? It's dangerous for the driver. There is no need for roadside inspections, they can easily be done in designated areas such as the weigh stations, or the wide spots created for this exact reason on smaller highways.

I just don't understand your whining about weigh stations. We "used" to go into all of them, all the time. Now, unless you got issues at the carrier level, you rarely ever enter one.

My Pee-Pass doesn't work & I checked the batteries it chirps so it ain't that.

Asked the Safety Manager once he said Safety Score is fine ...

But around the yard Drivers tell different story but ya can't always take yard talk for it either because every terminal has lots of gossip and bullshit advice

I had an actual flat trailer tire across the scale and I didn't even get inspected. Just pulled around back until I could get it aired up. They even let me bobtail to a tractor supply to try to get the bits and bobs to use my gladhands and fill it.

I got pulled in years ago in California for being 1100 over on my trailer tandems. I was sick as hell (flu), it was raining like crazy, and I could not get the pins released on the trailer. I knew I was likely a little heavy, but ran with it because I was done fighting with it in the rain, especially being sick.

East bound scale in Tehachapi was open.

Sympanthy? That bastard knew I was sick, scolded me for driving while sick, wrote me a ticket, then let me try to slide my axles.

I assured him they were not going to move. He was standing right beside me as I pulled the bar and the pins moved like they were on a new trailer. The bastard laughed at me, and was convinced I was lying to him.

That's usually how it goes.

Scalemaster down at the VA low tire one used the scale computer to look for air line bits and pieces while I did the same on my phone.

Thought that was pretty cool actually.
