Swift Transportation

We think that he already knows, but ran into some difficulties, has found a way to blame everyone but himself, and wants everyone to know what a horrible industry this is...that he's still trying to get into for some reason.

Comeon with the B.S. Mr. moderator. It's more like everyone wants me to blame me. I stand by what I said.

One thing is certain right now: if a driver is strictly by the book, and will not kiss up to management or the DM, you're going to have a problem. Where kissing up to the DM is concerned, my mentor with Swift told me that from the start.
[/QUOTE]

I understand what you are saying here and the other post. Advice appreciated. But no way will I kiss up to the DM or log contrary to the book. I won't play that game until I prove myself, or just to prove myself. On kissing up: my Swift mentor said the same thing. Not for me after all - that's cool. The nonsense is not worth the money. The people running the industry get off on being jerks. Only reason I will drive now is to pay for the CDL that I should not have had to pay for in the first place. Other than that, I no longer want it.

As far as miles go, they don't give them to me for not being a kiss butt, then no need to wonder why I quit after 6 months - no need for any other carrier to wonder why.

As far as giving me a hard time for not kissing butt (pushing up my load times constantly - etc.), which is my chief issue. Giving me a hard time will not make me a nicer person.

If people would quit pulling the string sticking out of his back maybe he would stop babbling and go away.

I noticed in the "Letter To Swift" Sean says they gave him an impossible task, to go 500 miles to get a truck assignment and they only gave him 12 hours to do it. I don't understand how that is "impossible", at 55 miles an hour it would take about 9 hours.

Impossible? I must have missed something.

When Sean posted his first messages here there was considerable compassion and sympathy for him from the membership on this forum. But as his posts went on, and became such long repeating diatribes, I noticed that folks here lost their ability to feel sorry for him.

Some even said some not so nice things.

Then I noticed that he began to lash out at some of the others and took to blaming the rest of the world for his short comings.

And the name calling began.

Not so good.

I admit I have taken a couple of pot shots at him, but I felt he had it coming.

And I never called him names.

Sean has on numerous occasions said that "this will be my last post here", but he keeps coming back. He must be a glutton for punishment.

Exactly Racer,if it take 12 hrs to drive 500 miles then something is deffinately wrong. With the slowest trk on the road,u can do that in 10 hrs and thats taking brakes here and there.

This is civil, I know how to be civil in return:

You did miss something. In my mile long Swift story, I'll explain the point missed in this half mile reply. The point missed is the fact Matthew Thompson (a SUPERVISOR at the Ocala Terminal) had over a MONTH to inform me of tasks I had to perform BEFORE signing on to the truck. Matthew Thompson claimed someone on their end "dropping the ball" which is his reason for not telling me of several tasks to be done - and I reiterate - BEFORE I can be seated in the truck. Swift trucks must be seated within a 24 HOUR time frame - anyone who has driven for Swift recently knows this.

None of the tasks I had to do existed when I got off the mentor's (trainer's) truck. The most lengthly of the tasks I had to complete which came up during the time I was home waiting for a truck assignment which I had no way of knowing of is the Smith System. That takes most of the day, to say nothing of the few other things I had to complete. I was THREE HOURS from the nearest terminal as I had to stay with my mother in Virginia because of a lack of income for over a month - and this is after I was told I'd most likely be assigned a truck "within a week or two" of completion of training. Matthew Thompson gave me the truck assignment at about 10:00AM on a friday. Knowing the truck was 500 miles away, I was allowing an ample time of 12 hours to get there in my car. My plans were to leave after supper after getting my things together, eat, cleanup and take it a little easy before the long drive. An hour after Matthew Thompson tells me of the truck and whre to go, he calles me back when he miraculously discovers I had to do the Smith System to be current - and thus be taken off safety hold. I was expected to do this that day, and still make the truck assignment in the 24 hour time frame.

By this time, it was about 11:00AM or so. I would not have made the Richmond Terminal until at least 2:00PM. This would have been far too late to complete everything I had to get done (the Smith System alone takes most of the day with CBT and driving - I knew it then, and I experienced it later with Werner). Even IF the Smith System were administered on saturday (which I doubt), I could not have done or completed tasks at Richmond and still made Avenl by 10:00AM. Even if I headed to Jonestown, Pa, there is no way this could be accomplished.

I did everything I could to try to work with Swift, and them "dropping the ball". The only solution I could see was signing onto the truck, then getting to the terminal in Jonestown, Pa. to do the tasks, be taken off safety hold, then be ready for my load assignment. I at least would have the truck assignment, and this already would have me running more than I should have had someone done their job properly. I was already making a sacrifice with the added expense of being willing to drive 2 1/2 hours to the Jonestown Terminal, then get back to the truck after my tasks were done. This I would have had to do because I'd have to get to the truck location (a drop yard I think it was in Avenl, N.J. - I was there during my training and I knew it was not a full service terminal where these tasks could be administered). I was trying to bend over backwards and work with them - I was willing to drive a lot extra and devote more time. Matthew Thompson told me NO, the tasks had to be done BEFORE I went to Avenl to sign on to the truck. This was impossible with the available time - by the time I got to Richmond, folks who administer these things would be gone two hours after I got there - three at most; and as for the Smith System, I would not have made it ontime to start that day - I doubt they would have even bothered to let me start the Smith System knowing I could not complete it that day. Even so, the Smith System was not the only task thrown at me, just the longest task. There was no way everything could be done that day. And the truck assignment (if a truck really existed) would not be pushed back another day - if I were not prepared to sign on to it with 24 hours of Matthew giving me the assignment, the truck goes to another driver. With Matthew telling me no on my solution to the problem, I was stuck with the impossible task. I guess I was expected to waste my time and money which would not be reimbursed, by going to Richmond to prove this could not be done that day, then drive all the way back to western Virginia on the other side of Roanoke to sit and wait another month without pay. Knowing I could not accomplish everything that day, and Matthew telling me that someone on their end dropped the ball, I was not going to Richmond. Matthew terminated my driver code citing a V.Q.. I tried working with Swift and their mistake, they would not work with me.

Matthew was a SUPERVISOR in the charge of assigning trucks. I called him DAILY to be updated on the list. Given his position, my status is known on his screen when he enters my driver code (IE; safety holds, tasks to be completed - etc.). The "someone on our end dropped the ball" is bunk as far as I am concerned. Even if it were true, allowences should have been made and some consideration extended on my part. Even if Matthew had told me up to the day before I got the truck assignment, I could have had the tasks done. So even if this did not come up until the day before, he could have called me and told me of the tasks coming up, and I could have been in Richmond when the terminal personnel got there first thing in the morning. Then I very well have been able to complete everything, and then set out for Avenl.

Matthew Thompson had plenty of time to inform me. He chose to not do so. I believe it was because Swift had no trucks/jobs at the time. They got their subsidy money for hiring and training me. I served my purpose. They found a way to get rid of me, and not have to pay for my CDL schooling at C1. Loads are slower, the subsidy money helps in the lost load revenue. So things like sinister saying I am trying to find a way to not blame myself (as if it were totally my fault), and say the industry is horrible is a not true and true thing. This "dropping the ball" was NOT my fault, and so I say the industry IS horrible seeing the things I have seen.

I know full well how to manage time. Swift gave me no time to manage.

This did not happen due to any attitudes like I display here on the forum. I was looking forward to the job and I was enthusiastic. And I feel justified in telling my story because this CAN happen to SOME others. And I am sure it has and does. They are just not posting on this forum.

As for things falling apart here on the forum, I just got tired of the hints that I was at fault, or it was because of my attitude, or this is not the line of work for me. Things just deteriorated with the innuendos and name calling. The facts got lost and/or forgotten. And it became a foregone conclusion that I was a mean jerk with attitude from "day one". This is not so, and if my earliest responses still exist, it is evident that the people here I now clash with was not the case from "day one". I kept trying to make a point. Because the point was not made and the inuendos and innaccurate interpretations on what I am persisted, I persisted in my repeating. Further: people telling me that I am trying to find ways to blame everyone but myself does not help - just pissess me off more - fuels the fire. What Swift did is pretty straight forward, and I can't see how I am to blame.

Do I regret what this has become and deteriorated to? Yes. Did I want it to happen? No. One of my shortcomings is I am a fighter and defender of myself - I don't walk away - I am not FIDO (Forget It Drive On) when it comes to defending my word.

Name calling is not the only way to set people off. Certain inuendos and accusations can be as bad or worse as any name or medifore. Much of what has been said to me here is tantamount to calling me a baby, lier, unfit...... I can go on and on.

A "type A", I will not deny being. I like things to run right and efficiently. What Swift did was not right or efficient. And I see myself along with many others used for the federal subsidy program.

I stand by what I said. Moderators: Do as you will where banning me for "spamming" or "fluffing my post count" goes.

I know this is another long one - and I apologize, but it was said something was "missed". The "hows" of what Swift (Matthew Thompson) did are all here in this post, not just what they did. This is to eliminate the need for me to answer any questions (IE: how did this happen, why could you not do this or that - etc.). This is not just for Racer X, but any other reader who may question "hows", Whys" - etc..

Racer X siad something very intelligent and true here. If people would stop pulling the string out of my back (and stop giving me something to defend or argue), I will stop babbling and go away. I made my point with my long posts from day one, and there were some who could relate.

You have said the same thing over and over again. If someone were to register at the site, and post the same thread, with the same subject line in every forum, at every opportunity, that would fall under the guidelines we use for spam. I'm almost certain of it.

You've made your points time and again, and you are welcome to post and discuss any subject you wish. However, this site is not your personal soapbox nor an avenue for you to air grievances about an industry you have almost zero experience in over and over and over again.

That's what people got tired of.

And with regards to the constant arguing, we really don't care about that either. But is it really necessary to respond EVERY time someone yanks your chain especially now that you know they're doing it?

Well Sean, one thing you didn't do was drive to the place that you were asked to go to and try to take the Smith System thing. I don't know what it is and I take you at your word that it takes so much time, but if you didn't at least make an effort then how do you expect the company to react?

In life effort can many times make the difference between success or failure.

The smith system is a drivers defence course. When I worked for CFI we had to do the same thing.

If the repitition falls under this forum's guidelines of "spam", I did not know it, nor did I view it as spam. If it's spam here, I apologize.

As to why I kept repeating: it was because of those who gave me an arguement as to who was at fault, or seemed to try to diminish the validity of what I posted, or simply seemed to not get it.

As for the site being my "personal soapbox to post my grievances in an industry I have almost zero experience in": That was not meant to be on my part. There is the option to report a bad company with this forum. It was only my intention to do just that for the NEWBIES, not veterans who have been with any said company for years and are satisfied with that company. As for "almost no experience", I am a quick study - I know what I know just as I don't know what I don't know. The experience I had with Swift was sufficient to educate me in the point I was trying to make - I experienced it - veterans have not experienced the exact same thing I did. I posted in detail for NEWBIES who may also ask how this happened and why. It seemed to me after a while the experienced drivers (who my posts were not intended for) tried to discredit my word.

As for responding every time my chain is yanked: I said it in my last (long) post; one of my "shortcomings" is I am a fighter - I don't back down or let anything go. Racer x hit the nail on the head. Stop pulling my string, and I'll go away (patty pulled the string without my posting anything to her yet again in a suttle way in her last post to racer x, she is going on with that because of things said in the past. As it has been said to me about staying out of the "kitchen" if I "can't take the heat", so too should some if they can't take back what they dish out, some should learn to lead first by example - I'll leave it at that).

Racer x still missess the point by telling me in his own way that it is my fault by not going to the terminal (3 hours each way and the then near $4.00 a gallon gas prices) only to prove the attempt would have been futile. Patty played along because of course I am "the most hated person on this forum". Had the severity of THEIR alleged mistake been less severe, and I had time to work with, I WOULD have made the effort. Swift gave me NO time to manage, and completing everything that day was impossible. Given that, I would have lost the truck anyway. I pointed out that Matthew Thompson readily admitted fault on their end. That's one reason. Another reason would be that I was already out of an income over a month by this point waiting for a truck that I was told I'd have in a week or two at most. On top of this, I was forced to relocate with my mother because of this extended waiting period. I would NOT have been reimbursed for this waste of trip 3 hours each way to the Richmond Terminal - I did not have the money to simply throw away. I know of "paying your dues" and "sacrifice". With what was already behind me, I considered my sacrifice made and dues paid in full. What? I am supposed to spend more money than I am making for a job? I am supposed to go totally broke? That's "paying your dues" in this industry? Sorry, but it's sheer stupidity to put out more than what is coming in for any job or lifestyle - especially when fault was admitted on their end. What Matthew sprung on me at the last possible second (actually too late) was the last straw, and I was done playing games. I find it hard to believe that incompetance like that exists among those in the position Matthew Thompson was in, so I saw it as a game - something done on purpose. It is alleged by racer x that I showed no desire to make an effort - fine. This is America, and everyone is entitled to an opinion I guess. But Swift showed me games (if not total incompetance), and I began to play no more games with them.

Seriously, if nothing is understood after this, than it is really futile with some people here. You don't get it - fine. But don't question or stomp on my integrity. Appreciation for that would go a long way.

I'll say yet again: I did not want things to deteriotate the way they did here between me and others over these last months. My experiences with the industry which I did NOT bring on myself as is outlined in my long threads (and the details being the reason for such length) had me pissed off enough without veterans who have not experienced what I did rubbing more salt in the wounds. There are some things I said here that I feel sorry about as I do know I am not in the best frame of mind these days - I have not always been this type of person. But there are other things I still feel justified in saying and defending.

I just prefer to stop with the stupid arguements over points repeated over and over again here like a broken record. But as I said, the only way that will happen is my being banned here or the string stop being pulled by others when not necessary.

PATTY,,GOT UR MSG,,B GOOD LADY

First, my apology for this second post and "fluffing" my posts here. I did not notice this until after I sent the last one.

You assume here I was in ahurry to get off the mentor's truck and go home. Yes I was. I could not wait to get off that truck after 6 weeks in a small space (with two mentors). But I indeed covered ALL the bases before I left the Jonestown Terminal. I checked with Safety to make sure I had no safety holds. I did the simulator after training as required. I checked with personnel to make sure they had everything before I went home to wait for my truck assignment. And I logged on to their terminal to double check for tasks to complete. NOTHING existed then - NO issues. So I did NOT drop the ball - Matt did - as he readily admitted to me on the phone when he called me back on the day I was to leave on a 500 mile trip for my truck (this is the umteenth time I said this). So again it seems an attempt is being made to discredit my word.

I covered every base I was told to cover by those administering orientation, and told to me by my mentor(s). And I'll point out that as a NEWBIE, there is NO WAY I could possibly know every thing or loophole in existance with the company. In the end, Matt was right, THEY dropped the ball. And I called Matt daily to be updated on the truck lst. He enters my driver code, and bingo, any issues or safety holds on me should be right there in front of him. They screwed up - not me.

Further: In my daily calls to Matt, HE was in a hurry to rush me off the phone after updating me. I understand he may have been a very busy man. But I can't be held responsible for something I knew nothing about because someone who should know is too busy to notice it. All he wanted to do was update my number, and hang up - no other inquiries.

My mentor's job is supposidly done after I am off his truck, and signed out. I am sure the last thing any mentor needs or wants is former trainees bothering him about something when they have to focus on the current trainee. That was pretty much the impression I was given by BOTH mentors. And one even told me on day one that NO mentor is training drivers because they like it or like people - it's the money. So once I was off the montor's truck after training, our association was done as far as I am concerned - there was no calling him for advice as it was above his head/control.

Maybe Matt and Diana are good people to deal with once you have your time in. I did not get the opportunity to see the good people they are, and I am not attempting to blacken their number as a good or pleasant person. But I do cite incompetance somewhere. Given Matt told me "someone on our end dropped the ball"...........

Look, let's just chalk this up to oversights, and the fact that sometimes newbies are given too much to address (like newbies have 10 years experience in the industry). But again, I covered ALL the bases I was told to cover upon completion of training, and I made a list of what had to be done after getting off the mentor's truck.

I have no current job as yet. Why is this important or cared about? I just looked at Schneider's website given I was told they were hiring recently here on the forum. This time I was not able to find the "6 months experience required". Maybe they dropped that. All I can do is call a recruiter and see what the story is, and what they will do regarding the termination I have on my DAC, the fact I have not driven a semi since May, and it's been a year and a half since I graduated C1.

Again, sorry for the crime of the second consecutive post. I did not notice this, and felt 007 probably wanted a response. Outta here for the day.

And seriously: Drivers be safe out there.

Sean if your so unhappy with this industry, simple fix=get out of it move on and find a nother industry you can get into and DO NOT SCREW THAT UP!
Also if as I have read thru your post I think it was page 6 or 7 you said you can't take it anymore then STFU and leave this forum. You might just like some other type forums I know we would be happy if you left. Good day

Sean, I did not intend to allege anything, I just said that if you didn't put your best foot forward and make an attempt (in spite of 4 dollar a gallon gas) at accomplishing the tasks you had no way to know if it would work out or not. And employers will take notice of any good faith effort. And most likely do something to work it out.

Better luck next time.

Sean I noticed in your 2 latest post here,I did'nt read them entirely but I noticed you're becoming alittle nicer. You're going to gain alot more friends here if u just ease up on the name calling and listen to what they have to say. Driver007 u told me to be good, well sorry I just can't do that.Good is BOOORRRRRINGGGGGGG.LOL

I agree with u there Racer. When I first started Werner,I hated it.I hated driving trk, hated the public just hated everything. But I just kept saying it'll get better and it has.The first yr for anybody starting out is the hardest no matter where u go.But if u give it a chance believe me it does get better with exp.Sure i've had issues,I think we all have. But I always talked to somebody within the company instead of keeping it bottled up and just quit.I ended up staying with Werner 3 yrs or there abouts.

Actually racer, I made a mistake in who I was responding to. I meant to type 007 also missing the point when I went on to mention the long drive just to lose the truck anyway, the waste it would have been without reimbursement, the fact that Matt admitted fault on their end, and the fact I was already without an income over a month and did not have the money to simply throw away to prove a point. Sorry about that.

As I mentioned, admittedly I am not in the best of spirits these days, and things simply spiraled down to where it was not necessary. I am defensive (especially where my integrity goes) when things are normal. So I admit I am too intense and over the top when I am already irritated. Just seemed too many were believing too much I am totally the blame, and it's not so. I'd put my life on that fact without batting an eye.

Good day

It's the underhanded things done in the industry (especially today) I am unhappy with. NOT the lifestyle of it in general. Like I said a few times, in spite of the step down I had to take in the money I am used to making, and the work I am used to doing, I looked forward to doing this for the year or two I intended. And my attitude WAS positive when I got off the mentor's truck.

Sorry to persist on this: But I mostly blame the federal money carriers get for hiring students, and without enough regulation on it. It's a great way to make up for lost freight revenue.
