The truck crashes.

Because the unpaid babysitter won't be quick to grab the wheel and hit the brakes, assuming he's even in the seat. And awake.

And even then, he will lack the skills to maneuver the truck in an emergency.
that's about the size of it!!

i am against this crap i just find it interesting how hard there pushing this shit!! i agree with what duck said also but i can see so many more situations!!!
also what happens with this magic shit in rain fog and winter :confused-96:. and how much is it gonna cost to get this magic shit fixed and what about updates how much will those cost:confused-96: as i'm sure there will be lot's of em:stare1: what about security of the system wonders how hard it would be for someone to hack into the system and send someone off a cliff:eek:. and what about training for this magical shit:confused-96: are the schools and training companies gonna toss students in the seats like seat covers or are they gonna train them. i can see it now while a trainee is out with there trainer instead of one in the bunk and one driving we'll have two in the bunk sleeping and ofcourse the truck will signal for someone to take control of it and no one will be awake to do it..
frieghliner is very proud of this magical shit!!!!

it will be interesting to see how much it cost to buy and maintain just for shits and giggles!!!

though it's interesting how many places of business are threatening to go automated once the minimum wage goes up.. you'll be able to walk into a mcdonalds one day and order from a kiosk and a machine out back will cook and make your order for you with no need for humans

So, everyone is freaking about robotrucks taking their jobs...

The Fully Self-Driving Car Is Still Years Away

Even as automakers and technology companies have been promoting a euphoric vision of the future in which cars will drive themselves and serious crashes will be rare, their engineers have been engaged in a sobering debate.

Just how autonomous can and should cars become? the engineers are asking. Is there an inherent danger in technology that invites human drivers to sit back and relax — but still requires them to be ready to hit the brakes or grab the wheel at the first sign of trouble?

Those questions have taken on a new urgency after the revelation this week that the driver of a Tesla Model S died in a crash in Florida while the electric car was operating in its Autopilot mode.

the big question is who's gonna take liability when something does happen:confused-96: you know the manufactures don't!!!

One of the moral points they bring up is, what should a robocar do if a situation arises that means killing pedestrians if that's the only way to save the occupants lives?

there's not a damm thing a robocar can do to save anyone's life so it still needs a babysitter.

1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.

2. A robot must obey the orders given to it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.

3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

0. A robot may not harm humanity, or, by inaction, allow humanity to come to harm.

Of course Asimov made a fortune writing books about how those laws allowed for loopholes ;)
