Rigmaster APU wont generate electricity

Thanks Skateboard, the Freightliner dealer would be much easier to get one from than Rigmaster's. The part number would be great, but even the cutout and cutin temps would be helpful and i could just match it up at the local parts house....

what part did you get At Freightliner? The a/c cycling switch? Does it have to be a RM part only? Or does somebody else make one that works? I got my new Capacitor in the mail today, to bad my truck is in the shop for repairs till probably next week now....
bigrigr, sorry to be so late answering, just got home, the part is made by "alliance", the # ABP-N83 323053, got it at Freightliner, VanBuren,Ar., works much better than the RM original, I installed it myself but be careful, has to be bent to fit. Herb..

Just got the truck back from the shop and put in my capacitor. It seems to be working now, my microwave and fans are working. It was a bit of a job to get the old capacitor out,( i had to heavily modify the plastic cover on the end of the generator)but all in all it wasnt to bad. Worst part was laying on my back under the truck in the snow. Thanks for the tips, now i can start working on the upgrades! Now I now im not the smartest of any bunch, but i dont see anywhere on the keypad to type in z123? Care to show me how dumb i am?

The z123 will come up on the screen once you get into the super secret mode. Then you scroll through the alphabet then select z then 1 then 2 then 3.

I should have mentioned also to put extension wires on the capacitor wires and run them inside the engine compartment and mount the new capacitor in there!!! Oops

I know it really isn't funny, but I just can't help it!

Ya ya, I know, I'm laughing too.

For those that don't know what a capacitor is on generators:

When the generator starts up it usually puts out 110 volts when the engine comes up to speed. If it weren't for the capacitor the generator would be supplying 10 volts then 25 volts and so on until it came up to speed. This would hurt the generator and electronic equipment. A capacitor is like a 110 volt battery that does not put out any electricity until it reaches it's barrier potential which in this case is 110 volts. I know.....YAWN

Ok, another tip. Put a volt meter on your outlet inside the truck. Adjust the idle on the engine so your putting out 125 or 130 volts. If you run a few things at once like your Rigmaster AC and the microwave the engine will bog down and put out a low voltage. You can experiment by leaving your volt meter plugged in. I've been thinking of putting a wall mounted volt meter inside my truck. They make some really nice units just for that. I've also thought about designing an automatic speed adjuster using an electric screw for the throttle and a simple computer chip to monitor voltage and control the screw. R/C manufactures make great stuff for this!!!

Funny, thats exactly what i thought i would do when the capacitor goes out again.... I am holding down the select and right arrow keys and nothing happens. This is the '09 model mts t4-6, doe the codes still work for this model? Thanks for all te help

Ok, so that brought up menu screen that showed temp, language, batt, and glow plugs. My batt portion showed the numbers from 0-9 and off. Doesnt show batt voltages like i was expecting. Any idea what that means? I get how the other sections work, but not the battery part.

That's a relative position I think from 12.0 volts so -5 to 9 would be 11.5 to 12.9. I'll have to look at mine in a bit. I have mine set to come on when the voltage drops below 12.2

If your batteries are not in good condition the Rigmaster may keep starting and stopping. That's always the first sign something is wrong. Most of the time I find one battery dragging down the rest. I carry a battery load tester with me. Also, you can test each battery by just disconnecting the positive lead, holding it up and doing the test.

You should copy all these directions into one page and create a RigMaster Resource.

Got anything on the TK units?

How about .... Espar Airtronic bunk heaters....??
