Pay Cut?

Definitely not a pay cut. This is Sun-Thurs last week. So 5 days.

doesn't tell us start times or end times. Or how many miles driven. How many loads hauled?

Then there is the question of how much was taken for deductions and taxes.

I had paychecks like than running concrete back in the 90's.

you're the one coming in here throwing paychecks around like it's something we are supposed to be impressed with.

if you want to get pissy because someone asks for clarifying information, then grow thicker skin.

Everyone knows what I used to make. I posted it early on. That's the point here. Doesn't matter what you did in the 90s. Only matters whether I made the right choice in changing jobs.

only one that can answer that question is YOU. no one else.

Is your time away from your family worth the increase in Pay? only you can answer that.

Are you working more or fewer hours? Only you can answer that.

I don't care to go back through 11 pages to find those answers when I can ask you directly in one post and you COULD respond without attitude in one post as well.

But hey, that's not what you care to do.

on the surface, it LOOKS good.

but as MN said below.......(but i think yes, you made a good move)

i know when i ran the road, i made a bundle, but the hours i put in was huge, and time away from home, made me wonder if i had a home to go back to.

nowadays, i have had a dedicated route now 5 years. so as a result, i get the same weekly pay...it is very good for me, as his is to him..

however, my pay is much less.....

BUT then too, i usually work less than 45 hours for a 5 night week, home all weekends, off most holidays, unless i wish to do my route, which sometimes i do, for extra cash.

as you say..."only you can answer that"...

he was debating to himself, to make a move, i pushed him into it, and now he sends me a compensation check weekly, only he's now a few weeks behind...dammit.....

I'm home daily, working 5 days a week. Some are 12+ hours since I'm still learning the customers. Some are a little under, but not by much because they (dispatch) fill your day. If you think you're gonna bust your ass to get done early forget it...they'll see you have time left and throw more loads on you.

Break it down hourly and it works out to about $30. Last job was more like $20 and I was running more days in a row.

This is also generally more relaxed. You hustle, but you don't scramble.

Oh that's why you said base. Well we're not hourly so I'm only comparing straight pay with what I made before. I always divided gross pay by time to see where I stood compared to what I left. Mostly want to see quickly whether I'm better or worse off.

But yeah taking overtime into account you're spot on.

that's the thing with my route as well.. i got to "know it" in good time, so i finish early. another driver many times has to come back, and go out with some pallets for the electric company. it pays a flat fee of $100, and it takes under 2 hours total...

i did it a couple of times, when he got tied up on his route, as the electric company needs that freight now....

i might do a weeked route of mine, if our customer needs the freight for a special order, but a driver living close by will do it if i wish not to.

i'd have to say, when i do the math, i am at $45 per hour, for my regular route. of course, the longer i have to stay out, the less i am earning, so i really push to be back each night for at or just below a 45 hour work week. and say "hello", to downtown Boston's Chinatown and Southie, on ANY sports night, or in heavy rains or snows......BUT, this is good for me, i am still under what you earn weekly. but i care not what others earn, as each job has it's ups and downs, messing with our pay structures.
