Then they went to stickers, the sides of our trucks used to look like a kid got at them, went to two tags, Oregon and whatever state you were registered in, things are pretty easy now,, that was back when drivers had all the miles memorized for whatever states because of fuel tax, I still have to wright my mileage down, to dumb to memorize it
No clue, but I wonder if that's the now extinct Johnnys Truckstop in Clinton, NJ.
Louisiana had two colors for their stickers.
If you had a certain color, you had to go in the scale house and show your fuel ticket to prove you bought the minimum amount of fuel for the miles traveled in the state.
If not, you had to pay the mileage tax in cash.

I see "50" on one of the plates. The Massachusetts plate #3231.

Now that you mention it, there is one on the Connecticut, He was probably getting paid almost as much as we are today but imagine the ride spring seats stuffed with horsehair or stray, leaf springs , no a/c, of course when the truck did break down, it could be fixed with a hammer, screwdriver and roll of duct tape
