How hard is it to teach a feller to use a gun?I'd heard the Navy doesn't even qualify with firearms in basic anymore.
I guess most of them don't need to...
But still seems like a bad idea to me.

Be amazed. I spent a lot of extra time in the guard teaching people to shoot. How hard is it to teach a feller to use a gun?![]()

Norm. SIL said it was more just a familiarization fire. She qualified with a pistol. No rifle training. Not sure if that was due to limited training or if that is the normal.
Unbelievable...Be amazed. I spent a lot of extra time in the guard teaching people to shoot.
Not all jobs are dependent on shooting.Unbelievable...
I got 2 non-resident carry permits, FL and UT, and to get FL somebody actually has to watch ya load a pistol and put a few rounds down range
Seems to me for military that should be the first thing anybody’s taught, no matter the branch

They have a Marine detail to do the heavy lifting. Chances are, she'll never handle a weapon again on-duty.Unbelievable...

I'm sure the Navy has their reasons. Like maybe there's no fox holes in the middle of the ocean...Heavy liftin’s one thing... but everybody oughta at least know how to make a rifle go bang
It aint called the “armed forces” for nuthin
How bout repellin boarders maybe?I'm sure the Navy has their reasons. Like maybe there's no fox holes in the middle of the ocean...

This ain't the 19th century. .50 cal M2 makes a bigger hole. How bout repellin boarders maybe?
As tight as the companionways are that I've seen, it would be difficult to use a rifle onboard a ship.qualified with a pistol, I think a rifle is easier.
I think a pistol makes more sense.

Good point... hadnt thought of that oneAs tight as the companionways are that I've seen, it would be difficult to use a rifle onboard a ship.
You've never been in the military.Good point... hadnt thought of that one
Id definitely want a suppressor
No, but I know enough about guns to know firin a rifle in tight quarters like somewhere in the bowels of a ship... or home defense... you aint gonna hear too good for a whileYou've never been in the military.
