My Freight Rates To California Increased This Week

Took a load to California this week. My goal was to stay close to home, but a broker convinced me to go. Can't say no to rates that are profitable even if you go to Califonia and deadhead back home to Arkansas.

Anyhow, after getting my load delivered, I bounced back to the truckstop in Lodi to take the rest of the day off and browse the load board for my next adventure.

Won't get into the booking process, because I already covered that in another thread.

So, started on my journey back to Northwest Arkansas. This morning, I woke up and continued my journey toward home. I decided to stop in Moriarity, NM to fuel up, take a shower, and eat. Sun was coming up after my first two hundred miles of driving, so it was a good time to park for a bit. After fueling, I clicked on the T/A app and grabbed me a shower. I was first in line for the next shower, estimated wait time of 9 minutes.

15 minutes later, I decided to walk inside the truck stop.

30 more minutes, and I bit a manager's head off. 45 minutes waiting on a shower at that point, with nobody in front of me the entire time. I had been staring at dirty empty showers. Manager tells me they are short handed, apologizes, and goes to the store and summons a cashier to come clean a shower for me. She was pissed, I didn't care. Got my shower, walked toward the restaurant, and it was closed. Typical, can't find employees for anything these days when you have mailbox money still showing up.

Ok, I'll just get a breakfast sandwich from Burger King.

Sorry, we are out of eggs. You can order pancakes, or we have hashbrowns.

Really? Give me the Croissant, don't worry about the egg.

We don't have one without egg.

Give me the one that said sausage, egg, and cheese, but don't worry about the egg.

They all come with egg.

but you don't have egg, so just give it to me without the egg.

we don't have one without egg

give me that damn sandwich, and don't put egg on it!

Oh, I guess we can do that. Didn't think about that.

I could have just cooked something in the truck faster than dealing with these people.

I have given up trying to deal with anyone in a Truckstop.

I pack the truck with food and go from there.

Limited or no contact is my goal now.

If I buy my beer etc it’s to enjoy on the trailer watching the dog play.

With how disgusting people are, I’m finding places away from them for the dogs safety because people can’t even dispose of garbage responsibly.

Yeah, I load my truck up with food. After a few days, though, I like to get something different from what I have in the truck. It's a once a week type of thing. Getting harder and harder to do out here, though. Nobody wants to work anymore. #Bidenomics.
I got a couple slices of PFJ pizza once. Mostly because I was going to be early for an appointment, and could kill the time fueling as well, at the same exit as and only a few miles from the customer.

Oh and I used points. Not actual dollars.

Is Lisa's in Moriarty still open?

I’ve been coming across the staffing shortage a lot lately. The TA in Lake Point, UT last week pretty much only had junk food to eat. The Country Pride is no longer, the Taco Bell and Burger King there were closed early due to staffing.

Same story for a couple other places on my regular lanes.

Been coming across all kind of places (not all truck related) that are short staffed.
Cant blame it on 3 stimulus checks that came a year ago. That money is looooong gone. So is unemployment. People just decided why work and be broke. When they can not work and still be broke. Places paying very well dont have a shortage, they have a waiting list.
