Let's Rant About Slow Trucks

Not if your running legally.

Legally? I freaking got a logbook violation, that's for being legal... I am 22 and started February 2012, ran all legal, until I slept 10 hours, drove for 30 minutes, then slept another 6 hours when they were unloading me, then I drove 9 hours, right there violation... what I didn't know is that your 14 hour rule starts when you start driving, but then how can I be legal? Slept freaking 16 hours and got violation? that was 600 miles that day.... I told all those DOT guys that I'll start cheating my books from now on, it's impossible to be legal in driving and none of you can tell me it is possible, it really isn't, with the way they unload you, traffic and all other stuff.... Now that's what I'm doing, cheating my logbooks now, they will never catch me... man I was ****ed! i remember when I started driving a random trucker was bragging about him cheating his books and he told me "i promise you, sonner or later you will start cheating your books too" lol

Oysters kid. Oysters. Clams do nothing with sand but spit it out. Even the bearded ones.

Clam:

Same thing.

And I've seen pearl-colored stuff running out of bearded clams plenty of times.

my truck runs only 69mph pedal and 65 cruise, i normally drive 65, anything over than that is a little too fast in my opinion, but that's why we have passing lanes on the left (usually) slower truckers on the right, and faster truckers on the left... really nothing to be p1ssed about, i know my truck is bad on fuel if i drive 69mph, if i do 65mph im getting 8.2 mpg (loaded very light), and i pay fuel out of my own pocket, im not here to haul 75mph, im here to make money, and save money with everything i can because what you save is what you gain :)

So you think that you were running legal when you did that?

Uhhhhhh.......What are you talking about?

Slept freaking 16 hours and got violation? that was 600 miles that day....

You don't undestand the HOS rules do you?

I told all those DOT guys that I'll start cheating my books from now on

I doubt it....

it's impossible to be legal in driving and none of you can tell me it is possible,

It's very possible....Not covenient sometimes but it's possible to run legal and make money!

it really isn't, with the way they unload you, traffic and all other stuff....

And yet.....Some people seem to be able to do it just fine!

Now that's what I'm doing, cheating my logbooks now, they will never catch me...

Famous last words of a fool!

Sittin' at the counter at the truck stop I'm sure.

Sittin' at the counter at the truck stop I'm sure.

I sit at the truck stop counter sometimes, when I can tell the waitress will be lazy, like if she looks tired, or she's 400 lbs, or extremely old, pregnant & about ready to pop, etc. They keep my coffee full if they don't have to walk, limp, or waddle very far.

And you get to hear all kinds of interesting stories. Like the Werner driver who was in Denver and they had two loaded trailers that had to go to Chicago but only one truck available, so the shipper made him a dolly so he could pull both trailers to Chicago. Fascinating stuff.

Or the 400 pound former Navy Seal, Green Beret, Army Ranger or Black ops guy that is really wealthy and just drives a truck for the fun of it and yet still hasn't managed to take a shower in 3 months.
Or the 45 year old Viet Nam Vet that did "Creepy Crawly" missions into Cambodia and Laos to "Handle" sensetive asignments for the US Govenment that he can never talk about.

Or any equally boring lie that they try to feed you.....These cretins are the very reason that I NEVER sit at the counter.

If you did that just as you posted but slept 8 hours instead of 6 you could have drove 11 hours, as posted you only had 7.5 hours to drive. Try knowing the HOS rule before you try braking them.

I worked with one of those guys at a fence company about 12 years ago. His job was to cut dog-ears on the tops of fence posts. Always wore his SEAL hat, & never talked to anyone & was anti-social.

Or the 45 year old Viet Nam Vet who did "Creepy Crawly" missions into Cambodia and Laos to "Handle" sensitive assignments for the US Government that he can never talk about.

Sounds like the trainer I had in 2005. Except he was in his 30's & it was Panama or Grenada or something. And he used to show me pictures of him in his Green Beret costume like every freakin' day. He said Tom Clancy must have "inside information" because "Clear & Present Danger" was a true story and he took part in it.

Nope.

Oysters are molluscs that attach themselves to rocks, etc.

Clams burrow in the sand or sediment.

They even taste different. And you might eat an oyster raw, but you would never eat a clam raw.

They are related, like humans are related to the apes. But they are far from the same thing.

They're funny-looking things with clap-trap shells that live in the water. They're the same.

Just like chimpanzees & orangutans are both monkeys.

But as long as we're talking about shellfish, we might as well be talking about snails since this is a thread about slow trucks.

Some carriers already have programs similar to this. But rather than being a negative thing like the penalty in your example, it is called a fuel bonus, a reward or an incentive to encourage drivers rather than threaten them.
The problem I've seen with these so called "fuel bonus" are some are set so high they cant be gotten. Heavy loads, high head winds, weather in general, stop and go traffic, winter blend fuel, ect, ect, all take there toll on a driver trying his/her best to "reach" that extra 2 cent a mile bonus thats all but out of reach in the best of conditions.
In my plan its 100% up to the driver. Either drive the company set speed limit or pay the company to drive there truck faster than they wish.
If they want a smoke and mirror bonus program offer a bonus to the drivers that stay at or under the set speed limit.

That would just lead to lawsuits by drivers claiming the info wasn't accurate

I dont see a rash of drivers filing lawsuits about not getting there fuel bonus. In todays GPS, computer controlled engines and every kind of data logger world, a lawsuit would highly be unlikely or even won.

Anyway you look at it, it puts the driver in control of the money they can make or loose.,

You started it.

The company I drive for when I feel like it has a bonus that's easy to get.

It's based only on idling and overspeed. We're allowed 5% overspeed. The trucks will run 68 with the hammer, 65 on cruise. Idling varies by season. I think it's 35% in the summer (no APU's), 5% in the winter except in January when it's 15% to allow for idling when it's below zero. Lots of "grease" there too. Like if our Webastard heater quits working, we're allowed 30 or 35% idle in winter until we get to the yard to get the thing fixed.

And there's something about 3% over RPM but I've never even seen mine get over a tenth of a percent. I think their "over RPM" limit is 2000 or something cuz I've pushed it to 1800 plenty of times on hills.

The bonus is 4 CPM off the hub, every other week.

I can't say I have checked every fuel bonus program, but I made mine every month at TMC. That is where I started learning my good habits!

Never got a fuel bonus, never tried, never factored it into the pay and benefits when looking into a job
