Let's Argue About Motorcycles

Because it was there?

Not really practical. And I bet it is a bitch in the summer with all the heat those cylinders generate.

Not only that it just looks stupid. Why not just get a bike with a turbine.

A buddy of mine years ago came up with a propane fired rocket that was used on helicopter rotor tips to make them spin faster. He mounted under the banana seat on a sting ray bicycle and strapped a tank on his back. Squeeze a handle and the thing would take off pretty quickly.

Good times.

When I was in high school I ordered plans from the back of a Popular Science magazine to make a pulse-jet engine. I put a LOT of time into building it, only to find out the damn thing only produces about 35 lbs of static thrust and uses a LOT of fuel. I put it on a go-kart. Acceleration was slow, but it would eventually get up around 35-40 mph.

Performance was no different than the 5 HP Briggs & Stratton but used probably 4 or 5 times as much fuel.

I've owned and rode a good many Brit bikes years ago... last one was a BSA Victor Special, 500 cc sleeved to a 650 with 13 to 1 compression... 298 lbs street legal...now thinking about a Harley... but then again.... when would I have time to do so?

Here is just an example of what some of our drivers & OO's ride.View attachment 4419View attachment 4420View attachment 4421View attachment 4422

SWEET! I would like to get a duel sport to take on trails and such. Maybe I should just leave well enough alone.

We are planning a month long ride next year around the end of July. It includes the Grand Canyon, the PCH, Lake Tahoe, Yellowstone National Park and Mt. Rushmore. (I hear there's a rally around there somewhere around then.) It will be about six thousand miles for the trip.

You should also consider Arches/Monument NP as well.

When I went to Sturgis a few years ago we stayed at Custer state park you can rent a cabin there for a reasonable price they don't jack the prices up during the rally. If you go to Mount Rushmore go in the evening for the lighting ceremony. Yellowstone also has cabins in the park to rent.

Hey thanks! I'll make note of that. How far ahead did you reserve your spot at Custer?
