I check in to this forum almost daily. Have since I joined. The reason I don’t post often is, I have so very little of value to add to most topics. Or if I do, it’s a lot of effort for me to articulate my thoughts into a post.

I show my support (however much/little it’s worth) by attending most days and reacting to what others post.

Forums serve us all differently. Some use them as a place to vent, ask for help, discuss topics, share information, or learn from the general content. - I am more of the latter.
Sorry I am not much of a contributor.

Don't let having little of value stop you from posting. It hasn't stopped me for the last 4+ years.

What is TR like these days? Last time I went there it was too much. Too active, and it's like every thread was full of people answering the same dozen or so questions over & over again. Always rookie topics. Same old topics we've all been over and over before.

Mike wants trucking related content, because, it's a trucking forum. I get that. But how much is there to talk about when literally all of us who are currently active on here have over a decade minimum experience?

Put stuff in box, pull box long ways to other place, unload. I mean that's what trucking is for the overwhelming majority of people in the industry. How can such a mundane industry be interesting enough to keep conversations going on all the time? Emissions control systems, ELDs, which megafleet starter company is the least horrible to work for, etc.

Personally I've been over all these topics in zillions of threads and it just gets old.

But the Facebook trucking groups are just idiotic meme sharing like any other Facebook group.

This has always been a better forum than TR mainly because it's NOT full of rookies advising other rookies.

:dunno:
I think part of the reason is it's hard to get motivated to spend the time to create content,,, that will pass on knowledge, knowing that most younger guys have zero desire to actually learn anything about trucking unless it's something that will get them home 5 minutes sooner. It's fucking disgusting the stuff I have to see everyday.

i'm sure most are going onto platforms such as you tubes and are trying to make some extra cash also!!! how many drop out of trucking because the pay sucks and the lifestyle is not for them:confused-96:.

It’s really sad that you would hate people based on where they come from.
It's more about how they got here and what effect their presence has on our economy.

But that's probably too cerebral for some folks to grasp, so they just dismiss it as bigotry. 🙄

I guess forums are going the same way as the CB radio and for the same reason.

Gee, I still have a couple of CB radios. A 23 channel Cobra 29 all done up inside, a 40 channel Cobra 29 and a Galaxy DX 959 all done up inside with a Conex box.

My old dispatch manager told me to get out and create content for the industry using the company equipment, claiming my experience in the field would be a value to others. I have no desire to be an internet star and live in front of a computer. An hour a day is more than enough.

But, watching people take short cuts just to save a few minutes many times ends up costing you time in the long run.
If you can't find time to do a job right the first time, how are you going to find time to do it over? And many times, it's at the risk of someone getting hurt.

Depends on the person you are speaking about. Some people simply have misguided hatred.

Some people live and breathe politics. Personally, I hate it. The main reason is, social media. Way to many lies and disinformation and misinformation. It's all in an attempt to sway a person to vote they way they want you too.

There shouldn't be a right or left, but an AMERICAN way of thinking. I'm leaving it right there.
With a trucking community, it creates a unique issue.

Most of the current events in trucking are related to politics.

If I could make it work, my perfect scenario would be to simply delete the politics forum all together, and allow the natural discussion of current trucking news to include the political aspect of the topic.

The issue with this, and in retrospect it may be an issue I created for myself, is that it is difficult to allow the political aspect into the discussion without diving off into the attack at political beliefs and totally losing the discussion and anyone who previously wanted to be involved in the discussion.

In other words, historically, the conversation is taken over by the most extreme of either side of the political isle and everyone else is alienated and no longer interested in interacting. THIS is the primary problem that has wiped this forum out over the years. Most of the active people that we have lost over the years has been due to this right here. To take it a step further, I allowed it to happen because I have always been focused on running a community that avoided banning members who couldn't play by simple rules.

What I have learned, as a result, is that a traditional forum cannot thrive without rules and proper moderation of the rules. You don't need a ton of rules, but you can't the rules that you create go ignored.

Nothing destroys a conversation faster than focusing on politics and attacking the side you oppose politically rather than actually talking about the topic and why it is good or bad for trucking.

Then, you have those who don't have anything to add to the discussion, but they hate a political party, so they simply contribute a meme that adds nothing to the discussion. Yet another discussion killer.

And finally, you have those who look for any opportunity to use these discussions to allow their hatred of others to slip out. Meme's or disrespectful comments about their ethnicity or religious beliefs always find their way in. And when they are allowed to find their way in, you have instantly alienated many potential members.

So, with all that said, I am not at crossroads of figuring out how to move forward with the community and seeing if it can survive with actual moderation of the things mentioned, including removing those who simply show up and refuse to show respect to the rest of the community.

And after posting all of that, I have put together rules that the forum will go forward with.

Is the forum on the way out? Hopefully not, but we will see!

Here you go @389 Hood

Didn't see any reason to continue on with a thread discussing whether the forum was going to die or not, but feel free to continue with it if you feel it is that important.

But you saw it fit to delete my answer which to your question on the Vegas odds.
Sit back and watch, sir. You are going to be the one that destroys your own board with idiotic censoring.

I even added a poll for yall to make your official predictions.
Get it right. it's 'y'all', not yall.

I only have the power to delete my own posts, not anyone else's.

I opened my little private car forum to anyone that is invited. I had one rule. "Act like an adult". Since 2009, it has worked out quite well.

What I'm trying to say is, if you give 'most' people the opportunity to govern themselves accordingly, they will. The ones that don't, you privately pull them aside and tell them to get it in line or get out. Pretty simple. They either tow the line or get the ban hammer dropped on their heads.
