Is it legal? (to carry a weapon)

It only needs an 18" barrel and to have 26" over all length to be legal. If it came from the factory or was built (manufactured) with a pistol grip it will be classifed as Any other weapon (AOW) and requires the proper paperwork and a $5.00 transfer fee. Some of the BATF regulations contradict each other. A pistol is not limited to the length of barrel. A Pistol cannot have a stock attatched to it. A pistol cannot be a smooth bore. So the lines are blurred between what is a pistol, what is a shotgun, what is Class III and what is AOW. If it was assembled at the factory with a long stock on it, you can put a pistol grip on it. All the manufactures offer some of their models with a pistol grip.

The 18.5" barrel comes from trying to be careful with the BATF or other LEOs. The requirement is 18". But, what if the moron measuring your barrel doesn't know the proper way to measure it? Many do not or what they measure with is off, so a cushion is built in to protect manufacturers and end users.

The BATF is another agency that needs to go!

What about the Taurus Judge? Shoots .410 shells. Does the law lump pistols & revolvers together in the same category? Does a Taurus Judge have a rifled bore? I didn't think you were supposed to shoot shotshell through a rifled barrel.

"Though Taurus deliberately designed The Judge to fire shotshells, the Judge does not qualify as a "short-barreled shotgun" under the National Firearms Act of 1934 as its rifled barrel makes it a regular handgun.[2] However, the Judge is considered a short-barreled shotgun under California state law, which has a broader definition of "short-barreled shotgun," and the Judge is thus illegal to possess in that state.[3] The rifling is more shallow than normal, giving single-projectile loads less stabilization than they would receive in other handguns, but reducing the rapid dispersion of the shot from shotshells.[2] Taurus developed the shallow rifling after numerous experiments to find rifling that worked well with both types of ammunition.[4]"

Years ago I woke up as someone was opening my bedroom door. I grabbed my Para Ordinance 45 then promptly fell down the stairs as he left the house. By the way, guns don't go off as they fall down 13 stairs.

That's a Barney Fife moment there

Ha ha ha, yup. My buddy is a cop and in the heat of a battle it's a lot different story. Running away from a normal person with a gun he's lucky to hit you 1 out of 10 shots and chances are real good it will not going to be a fatal wound. Running away from a cop he's lucky to hit you 2 out of 10 times. They use to teach women self defense until they realized they are NO match for a 200 pound man once he gets his hands on you. They now teach to realize the threat right away and either knee them in the nuts or punch them in the nose then run. It's a big surprise and gives them time to run. I was a practice dummy at Digital for the after hours women's self defense class. I pretty much came at them like I was some retard. Little did they know if I wanted I could have been all over them like white on rice.

Yes they do. Haven't you ever watched The Simpsons? All you have to do is set a gun down gently on a table, and then wait a few seconds & it'll go off.

My sister's 15 year old was in karate classes a few years ago because she was so tiny for her age. She was 12 but looked like she was 7. My sister used to brag that her tiny little girl took down this "big 180 lb adult guy" who was doing the practice dummy thing like you did.

One time my sister picked me up at the truck stop & we had to pick her up from her karate class & I saw her knock the guy down. The guy said this little girl actually knocked him off balance & took him down. I saw it, it was even more fake than that fake stuff with the big growling dumbasses that I have to watch for a few minutes sometimes until I find the remote.

Ok.

So one of the other moms were there and she & my sister were yap-yap-yapping for about 40 minutes. The next class was adult men. That same guy who was taken down by the tiny little 65 lb girl, I stood there & watched 3 big guys try to take him down & he pinned them all down. That didn't look fake at all.

She may not have been able to actually defend herself....But she thought she could and that's even worse than not being able to defend yourself at all.
These martial arts instructors that "take a fall" for a weak person in order for them to have the illusion that they can defend themselves are not doing their students any favors.

On a positive note....There are few things funnier than a "martial arts expert" being wrecked by a good street fighter.

I had a friend who ran a karate studio and I use to hang out once in a while and watch. I never took a class. He did tell the class once that I'm the guy you have to stay away from. Once he gets his hands on you he's going to grab your throat, throw you on the ground and start pounding on you. He would teach his students to run away from me then compose yourself so you can defend at a distance before he gets his hands on you. Close combat is not effective.

There was just a segment on CNN about 2 armed guys in a casino and some 70 year old guy had a gun and starts shooting at them. Just to reiterate what I said above. This guy was 10 feet away, fired at least 5 shots and hit nothing. It was pretty funny. These guys were tripping over themselves. They couldn't run fast enough to get out.

One of the most important aspects of martial arts is to instill confidence in the student. But creating the disillusion that a 70lb girl can take down a 200lb ma can be dangerous. Instructors should know where to draw the line.

As long as she can get a good grasp on his testicles before he sticks his fingers in her eyes and grabs her head like a bowling ball she should be OK.

...I just got into trucking, bought my own rig with a trailer, I'm not that big of a dude, I'm only 22 with very little experiance and I'm driving all over the USA. I heard a lot about people getting robbed, and I know that any big 35 year old dude with robbing/stealing experience can easily rob an innocent person like me. Well truckers around me are all really cool, but I'm talking about those who don't work, never worked lazy bastards all they do is rob and run.. Well it's time to get a gun I'm serious... I'd never ever kill, but couple shots in the legs and one shot right in the a$$ will be a great lesson.

...what could DOT say if they see a weapon in my rig if I ever get searched? also I'd want a lisence that would make me legal in USA with a weapon just to defend myself when I would really need to... sometimes your out there all by your self in the middle of no where, so it isn't that safe. Thanks.

Brand new!> Three truck drivers robbed in separate incidents in northeast Ohio

This semi auto is new to the family. She stays out of CA & CT

For carry around on myself or vehicle, I have a preference for hammerless (or better put, covered hammer) DA revolvers or my Stoeger 12 ga double barreled Coach Gun. The idea is to never get in a scrap, but if I do, there will be no shell casings around to provide more evidence to determine the source gun. In the heat of things, if the hammer drops on a bad primer, with a DA revolver, just squeeze again. No having to mess with a slide or remove a stove piped round.

I'd suggest anyone take some Brazilian Ju Jitzu or similar class that teaches you some form of street fighting....

And realize that the punk on the other side looking to tear your head off isn't there playing with you.

Because when it comes down to it, you aren't going to have time to pull a gun to defend yourself.
