Never once had anything like that
Why do you keep harping on this as if they're all like that?
Because you've opened your mouth to many times proving time it.He likes to talk as though his way is the only way and everyone who disagrees is an idiot.
He's got me pegged as someone incapable of going out on my own for some reason. Like I'm retarded because I've said stuff contrary to his way of doing business.
See what I mean.Because you've opened your mouth to many times proving time it.
People try to explain business accounting to you and you tell us it's all wrong.
Everyone claims you can make such great money doing short haul.
The crap doesn't pay. Bigger carriers move it for pennies. As a service to their customers.
Minimum times at a shipper are entirely different for you and if someone says different than what you believe, you say their full of ****.
It's a minimum 1-1 1/2 hours gutter to gutter to get to a shipper or receiver
Plus driving time. That puts one of those "cherry short runs" at $350 for 115 miles at a minimum of 5-7 hours to complete.
What's your daily overhead boss? What's the minimum revenue you needed to earn to break even?
You don't know. Because you have some magical $2.50/ mile in your head. And anything less is cheap freight. But hey. That load pays $3.25/ mile. So you go knock yourself out hauling it
Understood. Been running boards for a year and a half. Plenty of short runs out there that'll snag you 1k for only 300 or so miles. They aren't a myth. You will. They never want to throw more money on them when they think they can use your equipment as a temporary warehouse.
They're not, but they're out there. The point @mndriver is making is that revenue per day is at least as important, if not more so, than rate per mile.
They're the exception, not the rule.Understood. Been running boards for a year and a half. Plenty of short runs out there that'll snag you 1k for only 300 or so miles. They aren't a myth.
See he knows how it is for everyone. Definitely bitter. They're the exception, not the rule.
And not steady enough to risk your business on them being there every day.
Apparently you looked into the magic mirror. He likes to talk as though his way is the only way and everyone who disagrees is an idiot.
He's got me pegged as someone incapable of going out on my own for some reason. Like I'm retarded because I've said stuff contrary to his way of doing business.

This is where I bow out. I know what I've been running for. And it ain't for peanuts.See he knows how it is for everyone.
That's what I'm saying. You didn't even poke the bear. The bear poked himself and came out roaring. This is where I bow out. I know what I've been running for. And it ain't for peanuts.
There's always that guy. I do my very best to never even approach them. That's what I'm saying. You didn't even poke the bear. The bear poked himself and came out roaring.

Yes he's a trucking God.You'd do well to pay attention to @mndriver - he's been doing his own thing for a long time.

You have a habit of providing advice with zero experience. Running cans for SNI is vastly different than running your own business.I'm not running on my own yet but he basically yells at me and tells me it's impossible to do.
My plan is to hotshot stuff that isn't worth a Class 8 or where a Class 8 won't fit. Basically consumer or small business work. I'm located where it's feasible.
Have you looked at how many hotshots are in your neighborhood? And failed vs still running?I'm not running on my own yet but he basically yells at me and tells me it's impossible to do.

This is only hard when you first get started. If you're relatively quick on your feet, it doesn't take long. Just understand your operating costs. And don't look at the line haul as a whole. Look at the profit per mile and the amount of deadhead in between loads. This isn't rocket science. You got this, man.I'm not running on my own yet but he basically yells at me and tells me it's impossible to do.

Yeah I'm not stupid. I've already got the truck. A trailer is next and authority. I didn't pay anywhere near Class 8 prices for it and it's almost new. (2018 Ram 3500 dually 6.7 HO Cummins, 30k towing capacity, ODO 3,000 miles). A trailer isn't anywhere near Class 8 either. Nor are replacement tires, oil changes, parts. This is only hard when you first get started. If you're relatively quick on your feet, it doesn't take long. Just understand your operating costs. I would never try to do anything to discourage anyone in this industry. But are you sure that hotshot is the way you want to go? I'm only asking because the operating costs for those guys per mile is higher over time than a semi. Just food for thought.Basically if you're not already doing it, you don't have the brains to do it so you can't have an opinion.
And if you do already do it, you're still dumb but less dumb if you're doing it a different way.
