I think I may be done with Walmart loads.

It used to really suck getting a Walmart load. Appointment times always messed up, product rejections for the silliest of reasons, and you could plan on being there all day.

Then it got better, at least with my experiences. Over the past couple years, I have been to Walmart DC’s multiple times, always in and out within two hours.

Once again, things changed back for the worse. My last three deliveries have all been in excess of 5 hours to deliver. Twice out of those three times, product has been mysteriously missing. Even a fully loaded trailer with nothing but full pallets of child seats just happened to have one missing. Every pallet was completely full, once car seat just magically disappears.

Today, I arrive at 0600 for a 0645 appointment, because we all know that you aren’t considered as arrived until you get passed security, drop your trailer, and check in with receiving.

According to Walmart, my appointment is for 0715 tomorrow.
2 1/2 hours later, broker and Walmart still working with his out while I should have already been unloaded and on my way home to get some work done on my trailer. Appointment made with the trailer shop days ago.

At Schneider, I hated that as well because they would constantly seal empty trailers that they wanted to save for scrap paper or pallets. I’ve broken many Walmart and Schneider seals at Walmart dc’s just to get hidden empty trailers rather than have to deadhead 150 miles to go find one after dropping.

They didn't do that to cans because they can't. We lost the contract though and I miss flirting with the checkin chick. 😟

That's pretty fucked up. Is it all at one DC, or spread out?

They have resumed the role of not giving a crap about the carriers/drivers who service their facilities.

Can't say I've had those problems recently, although pulling produce into them was a dicey proposition last year.
 
My folks and my brother both say the same thing about Walmart. Never go by dispatch times but by the appointment on the bol. Plan to be there the full 4 hours that they don’t have to pay detention for. I have never experienced Walmart but it sounds a lot like a steel mill.

Grocery warehouse are worse. As long as you have a limited quantity of different BOL line items, it's not bad. It's when you have a load of 4000 cases, involving 500 items that it gets bad. All that has to be sorted and counted before you get turned loose. Walmart mandated that the loads are presorted on pallets (no mixed item pallets,) and that helps a lot.
 
I hate going to any Walmart. I used to work in one of the grocery DCs. We had 2 hours from appointment time to get the truck unloaded unless it was a mixed load that had to be sorted. We had 5 hours for those loads. This was mandated by Bentonville. I wonder if those rules still exist? You can call the DC directly yourself to check on your real appointment time and possibly move it up if you're going to be early. If you wait until you're at the gate you've waited to late and will just have to take what they give you.

The really crappy part of this, and I know it is nothing new for walmart, is they absolutely refused to even try to work the load in at any point of the day. Just leave and come back tomorrow, basically, as I heard over the speaker phone in a very rude voice.

99.9% of places will work with a situation like this, not Walmart.

That said, it took a well above market rate to get my truck on this load. It will now take even higher numbers to get me on the next one. I've gone from assuming the need for 3-4 hours of detention being built into the rate, to needing to have an extra day of revenue built into the rate.
 
Y'all keep complaining about these terrible shippers and receivers. I've been there and my soul bleeds for you it really really does but I'll say this once more. Sometimes you need one of these on your trailer. You don't want it? I'm putting it right here.Screenshot_20191023-184253.webp
