Hunting/Fishing photos and stories

Early season were hunting local family groups so big numbers aren't needed. I run a mix of silos, full bodies, and ring base decoys. Im loaded for Tuesday. Thats about 5 dozen or so. View attachment 72435
Nice! I figured that since I'm trafficking geese I need larger numbers to compete with the fields full of real geese. I will most likely have to double or triple those numbers during late season. This was my first time hunting over silos. I'm a fan!!

I got my first silos last year just to supplement mainly hunting solo because they are fast. I'm hunting feeding areas so a huge spread isn't real necessary

That's awesome. I'm trying to get permission for more ground to keep from hunting the same field too much. I run out of creative spreads in the middle of the season. One thing that I have noticed has really helped is laying my blind on a wing instead of directly in the kill hole. It also seems to give me more shot opportunites.

@Lilbow we had a good shoot this morning. Twice we shot geese out of a small flock dropped one or two and they immediately came back and we whacked a couple more. View attachment 72553View attachment 72554
That is awesome! I just found out I can't hunt the planted fields anymore until the deep freeze. Time to look at more fields. Once the 19th comes, my county opens for geese and I have a lot of fields!

That's fucked up how the other geese just walk right up and stand there like "duhhhhhhhhhh" when you're sitting there posing next to your kills, holding shotguns.

"Derrrrr... Nothing to see here. Just the corpses of our friends and relatives.. I think I'll just peck around eating corn off the ground"

They've gotta be as dumb as cows. :biglaugh:

Seasons are structured by county there?
Kind of. It's more by region. I have acquired a whole lot of hunting permission this week so this season should be really good! One farmer even told me that once the snow hits, I need to shoot as many as possible so they don't tear up his ground! He has a ton of ground but it will be fun!

I'm headed out in the morning. I'd like to hunt out of our duck blind over water but it takes more time then field hunting and I have to work at some point.

Hoping the wind cooperates to water hunt Sunday. Blind doesn't work with any north wind.

Good luck! May there be many!!

I retired at 60, had over thirty years with the Teamsters. I live between two lakes Lake Don Pedro and McClure. Great bass fishing and ok on trout. Figured I could spend my golden years fishing, hunting, playing golf and my photography hobby.
That lasted about five years, and then the boredom set in. Fixed everything around the place that needed fixing including building a new storage shed for all my crap.
Decided to go back to work, that was seven years ago and have never regretted it.
So what is the point to all this, any of you old hands that are close to retirement, really think it through, it is fun for a short while, just make sure you have something that will keep you busy.
Since I'm into photography I have asked my dispatcher to always look for somewhere new to send me. I have hit almost every state in the lower 48 the last seven years. What a wonderfully beautiful country we have.
I'm also one of the Proud Boys, love our country.

@Lilbow we had a great hunt this morning. Three came right at us flew over banked around and set to land in our decoys. Knocked all three down. Same exact thing happened with a pair. A big flock showed up and I told my buddy to kill one. One more shot and we were done. Couple are shot up pretty good because they were all wings set staring at their chest when we fired. 20201017_080557.webp20201017_082231.webp
