How to FIX the Brokers!!

DRIVERS O/O AND COMPANY DRIVERS should get the entire tarp fee. They're the ones doing ALL THE WORK,NOT the brokers or the trucking company.Tarping isALOT OF WORK.The load itself should be separate from the tarp pay.I think shippers pay what $125.00 to tarp a load?and u the driver gets what $25.00 out of that and does the company and/or brokers get the rest of that tarp pay?????I think u all should get untarping pay as well.It burns my ass when hard working folks get ripped off.It just isn't right. So on an average say 1000 miles for u o/o how much of that do u receive and how much does the other party receive?

Well why not they should.Afterall the shp tells them the brokers what the load pays dont they????? so its the brokers duty to tell the driver don't ya think????So what if u ask how much does it pay TOTAL does the broker tell u and if the broker does tell u is he telling the truth or as u all call it skimming the rates???????????

They will not show you the contract with the customer 'cause then the driver WILL KNOW just how much he is being cheated out of, they might tell you but you can't believe them because they won't show you

That is SO WRONG in every way possible.Too bad u can't go directly to the source who is paying for the load to be delivered or can u??????

this is true....they know the driver is workin fast to get his/her load movin.

JJ I admire u for your honesty I really do.But why do u feel the driver does'nt need to know the total????????You know the total so don't ya think that's only fair the driver needs to know????????I do.The rate might be fair to u but if it pays more then the driver needs to know and deserves that extra money.Drivers have a real tough time out here and I think if they can make a better profit then what they are making then HELL YA GIVE IT TO THEM.
Hey flat, in all honesty I have never had a driver ask me what the shipper is paying, only what the load pays. I personally dont feel the driver needs to know the total, same as I have never asked a broker that when securing a load for my truck. If the rate is fair and I can make money I take the load, if the rate is chickenshit I black list the broker in my computer and ask the broker not to call my company anymore.
I have a 04 freight liner with a 53 reefer. My base rate is $500.00 dollars a day plus fuel plus the driver. This is how I calculate my rate. If its close I mat drop a little, but you are talking a few dollars, not hundreds.
As far as drivers having there fsc stolen, I dont know. All of my shippers give me a flat line rate. I dont break my rate confirmations down with a fuel surchurge. It is a flat rate, period. The only exception is $50.00 an hour detention after two hours and unloading fees. Now I do have one shipper who re imburses for tolls and the driver gets that as well on loads going to the bronx.

Damn that's skimming, or stealing or anyother word u want to put on it................

yep I would say so.Wish something could be done about it.You o/o work hard out here and u have alot of bills to keep the trk running u deserve every bit of that money that is coming to u brokers should not keep one extra cent other then the 10%..Companies rip us company drivers off as well only we dont have the bills u all have.

Youre right it does'nt but they could pay us more then they do instead of pocketing that huge profit.I'm ashamed of what im making but I do love driving trk otherwise I would'nt be out here.I've talked to some ex o/o that were thousands in the hole.Gee I wonder how that happened.
Smaller companies would who pay %. When you r paid by the mile it really does'nt matter to the driver as far as the rate.

I honestly don't think the broker system can be fixed till the shipper quits calling them and trucking companies NEVER use them to cover the excess freight they take.

And that will and won't ever happen. But if the brokers r forced to be held accountable? In almost every form of money market game except loan sharks their r caps.

yes but luna it is free market enterprise. We can't forget this. If we scream for their regulation how much sooner will the do even more to us? We have to be careful what we ask for. being a little more able to just say no is the key but we still have to keep the bills aid too. There never has been nor will there ever be anything fair in this industry. At least not for every player. Our biggest chance is to learn to trim our cost every avenue possible. And to make the smartest decisions reguarding truck management.

Officially, not likely, however I hauled out of Alcoa down the road for years, I got to know a girl who used to work in the sales office, she started working sales at the local mawson and mawson office and she told me just how bad the one brokerage was ripping the drivers off, everybody at Alcoa knew it but did not do anything about it, really nothing they could do about it anyway. What goes around comes around, the guy who owned and ran that brokerage office died from a heart attack at 58.

Brokers have been allowed to go crooked ever since the industry was deregulated. They used to have to pay by a scale so a driver knew ahead of time what they were supposed to be paid, however that lead to brokers 'selling' loads to drivers

Brokers are of course defending their practices well if they won't tell the drivers just exactly how much the load pays and not lie about it what would u call that? You o/o should be making more then just enough to survive.I mean youre out here to make money which means alot more then just enough for fuel, mainteniance ect.I mean not being nosey but r u making much of a profit as an owner op or just enough to keep your head above water?Does alot of brokers skim your rates and if so would u be making much more if they were honest? Many owners go back to company driving because they arent making much out here.

I work out of a agent's office now, or broker if you will, she pulls the loads right off the computer and if we have any questions she just turns the screen around and shows us, right now we are haling fruit off the rail up to Montreal from Syracuse, running back empty, about 500 miles and it pays $850 give or take $20, depending on what part of the city we are running to
