How much time do you spend on the CB?

The CB like the cell phone are nothing more then common luxury items.I have'nt had a CB dam near every since I started driving trk, don't need it.It's nothing more then a squaw box for drivers that are bored or that needs someone to talk to to stay awake during those long trips.I don't need a cell phone either but my company requires it.If they did'nt then I would'nt have one and not have to worry about them bugging me.

As a kid riding with Dad and friends dads I was always on it talking with the drivers. Not trash talking or anything just seeing how there trip was going where they were going all that. I would always have it on and pending the mood would be on it.

I usually keep it on till somebody starts singing or talking junk about somebody else. I always keep the squelch way up so I don't here crap from miles around. I do like keeping it on in case there's an accident ahead of me or I have some sort of equipment problem.

I swear i'm the only one out here without a CB,LOL.The cb is nothing more then a luxery item, you don't have to have it,i'm proof of that. But there are times I wish I did have it to tell off the idiot trucker behind me to stop tailgaiting.Or tell them they're running out of blinker fluid, turn your blinker off,LOL.Or just call em idiots for not knowing how to drive.

I really miss the days of the CB jabbering away. You cant get a bear report,,,,,I guess at 62 to 68 MPH you dont need to know these things or find out what the coops are doing, when you do find someone to talk to tho the trip seems to go by alot faster.

I do get a laugh out of hearing people asking for bear reports, even though I am barely going over the speed limit and NOBODY is passing me these days :)

I do keep it on usually to listen for traffic problems, but these days I am simply running a peaked and tuned General Lee, and the Box is no longer hooked up. Used to enjoy talking on it, but too much hatred on it these days.

When my kids are in the truck, it NEVER gets turned on other than being placed on an odd channel where they can hear themselves talk through the echo box.

As I have to slip seat I stopped putting a CB in the trucks over 8 yrs ago not worth the pain in the butt in and out after every trip.

We use ours everyday, on the lease mountain roads they are marked with mile marker signs, so as you go up you holler out what you are driving, what mile marker your passing and the next one you're going too.

After going to North Dakota and seeing first hand what happens when 300 trucks running in circles all day don't communicate, I realized that the talking, helping one another out and guiding traffic around us wasn't the norm elsewhere. We were the exception on that job not the rule.

It astounded me how many times I tried to help or warn someone about a hazard ahead, or a flat tire or a blown hydraulic line, or a locked up brake on their trailer... no one cared to have the CB on. It was always relatively quiet until you'd get to the dump site so you could hear where the dozers wanted the load.... even then people would just ignore the operators and dump wherever they saw fit.

I use it as a tool, I have conversations with other drivers and my butt has been saved from near fatal accidents because someone cared to speak up on it. I also try to use courtesy and pick other channels if I am in a chatty mood. It's all in how you use it.

Mine is on all the time. Around here the thing is very quiet unless there's a problem on the road. I slipseat so don't have my radio in the truck, but the Cobra 29 the company puts in works well enough.
When I was OTR, it ALWAYS went off with in 20 miles of West Memphis, unless I thought I had a smart ass remark the "salesman/preacher/rocket scientist/politician hadn't heard.
During the last Presidential election, I'd go by one TS and say something like, "Obama is the antichrist", then the next one I'd change it to, "McCain is the antichrist". It was funny the remarks, and I'd just laugh on down the road.LOL
The thing has saved my bacon more than once, and I'd like to think I've done the same.
Sometimes, rarely, I'll pick up a guy going the same way and yap for a number of miles, it does keep me awake, and can really make the time fly.

My conversations with drivers running in the same direction as me only last about five minutes, that's one of the down sides of being stuck at 62mph. It is always nice being dispatched on the same run as one of my coworkers though. Like you said, it does make time fly.

Well here ya go. Just work in a state where the speedlimit is 60. Works for me.:biglaugh:

I mostly use it for the docks that still call ya on cb

Also like the weatherband

Other than that it stays off

Too much trash talking or people selling stuff and Lot lizards even panhandlers

I wont even spend more than $40 bucks on a radio these days

I am the last of a dying breed in my area I guess. I used to belong to a small radio group in which has lost its luster since the oldest member of the group past away. Everyone has lost inerest in it. My base is always on on the off chance that someone decides to turn theirs back on.

Got this fancy new truck an still tryn too figure out how too snake the cb antenna wire
in their without destroying that damned truck

I just got my radio tuned need the front end of aligned an then I bee good too go

Got an uniden maybee early 90s it is almost in perfect condition

In north little rock crap hole of the truck stop world

50 bucks it was a steal 4 real

In 30 years at this game, I have usually had the CB on to listen if something was going on down the road. I really could give a rip if the scale is open or closed, or if there is a bear in the median somewhere. And I sure don't keep a running log of this info like some do... "there is a bear at the 12, 34, 67, 73, 110, 134, 142, 176......" If I am farther than 2 hr from the last scale, it really doesn't matter if I saw it was closed or open. Lot can happen in 2 hrs. someone asks about these things, and no one speaks up, I will generally chime in and answer. When there is a lot of chatter on the CB, and I am wanting to listen to a talk show or music, then sometimes I just turn it off for a little while till further down the road and away from the truck stop CB stuff. Like others, I use it sometimes at a customer. Sometimes, if I can help, I will answer someone who is looking for best way to get into a customer. It is a tool, that's all. I never have viewed the CB as my social networking connection.

CB's are soooo cheap. You don't need a $200 unit, complete with 1000 watt kicker, and antennas that look like you are a storm chaser or coyote hunter. I can't imagine how most every driver could not benefit from one at some time or another. Some may bellyache about the "new" drivers not talking much or not having their radio on. I could care less. I am not wanting to use the thing for idle chit chat. That is what a phone and bluetooth headset are for. When asked where I am headed, I usually say "East" or whatever direction I am going. I never mention the customer I am going to or where I loaded, or what I have on. Nice way to increase risk of freight theft by blabbing that info out over the air.
