My Chrome cobra 29 quit working, I had it in the truck waiting 'till I got time to get it fixed. The guy fixed it and tuned it up, Did some work on the Mic. It went back to doing the same thing after four days.I would key the Mic and the needle stopped moving. Now I don't even get a light when I key up.My back up 29 still works well so I know It's not the antenna's . The match is good. I think I should have got my UNIDEN tuned instead.(early 90'S) .I only got the 29 tuned for the talk back.

I could have got the UNIDEN done and got a echo board put in.Anyway when I get back Around Detroit it will get fixed,Or I get to use the boots I got at the IOWA 80.lol

ZERO in fact the last CB I had I threw it out the window on I275W 10 years ago and I am at peace with out the BS on the radio.

I heard that! Half the time it's all rubbish. Talking about there panties and interrupting me following whats going on ,On Land line now. Today it saved our bacon. Two full grown diesel bears 4 miles apart on a two lane in upstate.N.Y. I was in a hurry to start my weekend, Divers actually passed information on!

I was TOLD to have a good weekend when I got to it,Well I got to it and so far so good.

I enjoy listening to the level headed, superior intellected, Mensa Champions... makes me feel .... smrt.:bootyshake:

When I gets annoyed with them I simply turn it off or KEY UP AND BLOW 'EM OUTTA THE AIR!

I was looking at the amp? or what ever it was that would get me out louder.I waited to see how he did on this radio,First! FAIL!. I would have paid to have it installed,Lord knows I couldn't do it. I don't ever say much but when I do, I want to be heard.

I have a Connex 3400 HD. 80 watts outta the box and a K40 off the side. Plenty of power for me but I'm looking at linear just fer chits n giggles.

An amp will NOT make your radio louder, It will get the signal out farther. My radio is a Cobra 29 Classic with a little tweaking done and it is VERY LOUD....It gets out about 3 or 4 miles without an amp...An amp won't do what you want.
Go to a competant radio tech and ask him to set it up a little bit and tell him that you want big modulation....It won't cost you an arm and a leg but the radio will sound strong.

Most "so called" CB radio "tech's" are IDIOTS and will trash your radio and make it sound like a piece of junk....

I'm going to have to plead ignorant on this.He had a thing with a bunch of cooling fins on it, He was trying to sell to the guy in front of me.The guy before was as dumb as a bag of rocksIn everyday life! I'm as dumb as a bag of rocks when it comes to radios.lol.

It sounded real good when I left and got some radio checks but it went down hill from there.

That "fin" thing is a linear. I am not all that up on radio accessories but learn as I go. Most of the shops I've stopped at have been more than happy to answer a lot of really dumb questions by me and I always leave a little smarter.

You're only leaving a little "smarter" if the guy that answered your question knew what he was talking about....If he was like 90% of these "so called" CB radio "Tech's", You might have left knowing even less than you knew when you went in.

They all talk a good game and tell you what they can sell you to make your radio the "Hottest" thing on the block.

Most of them couldn't heat up a Pop Tart!

I think your right! He was talking about, Instead of turning up the squelch, Turn down the R.F. Gain. His rational was the squelch puts up a kind of gate, Ok I can agree on that but how does that differ from turning down your gain? Again I plead ignorance.

I don't remember all of the correct terms but I'll attempt to explaiin this.....The squelch just puts up a block of sorts and lets onle a very strong or close signal through while the gain will turn down the recieve on the radio and will allow you to recieve some of the weaker stuff but not as loud (Does that make sense to you?)
I use combination of the two (squelch at around 8 o'clock and gain at around 1 o'clock) to block out most of the BS and yet still be able to hear someone that's fairly close by.

I use gain and no squelch. Get a solid signal at 7 miles out with no static and that's about all I care to have but can hear chatter at twice that. Squelch does limit me to about 3 miles if I turn it up at all.

Not sure if it's radio by radio or not. I also have a Galaxy 959 that's peaked (30 watts) n tuned and that one gives me a solid 5 miles with slight static.

Both have RB and occasionally I'll turn it on when I hear a real red neck at my parking spot for the night. LOL... homophobes p i s s me off.

My radio is "OFF" once I get to the truckstop...I have no time for idiots. There are few things more ridiculous than guys sitting around in their trucks in a parking lot babbling on the CB.

"Solo" (my nickname for the guy with a single tooth on top front) at the CB shop inside the Boss repair shop at the eastern "J" in Wytheville, VA (fort ...something...) seems to know his stuff.. just never gave much thought to dental hygiene.

I quit smokin a few years back and at $5 a pack per day... it's my fun money! Usually use it for "her" but occasionally I'll get selfish.

Thanks to the both of you for taking the time to explain it to me. I still have to get to Detroit and have this man fix my radio! I paid him good money, All I want is for my radio to work right. I think it's a bad radio to start with ,but that what I give him the money for was to fix it.He said he did.I have the reciept and he said it was guarenteed for 30 days but I bet he will say it has nothing to do with the work he did.We will see I will post after I talk to him.

That's the only place I know of where you can travel north and south at the same time.
