How much time do you spend on the CB?

mine is on but i hardley ever talk on 19.
when you have a radio that goes from 25mhz to 38mhz i have waaaaayy to many other channels to talk on and i talk long distance. at least 300+ miles

Just curious...:dunno:

On average...how much time per day do you spend on the CB?

  • Are you a constant talker while driving every mile....
  • Are you a "hang back and just listen" kind of driver....
  • Are you an "only speak when spoken to" kind of driver...
  • Are you a "reply when you know what you're talking about" kind of driver...
  • Are you a "reply when you don't know what you're talking about, just want to be part of it" kind of driver...
  • Are you a "michevious talker"...
Does it really help you stay awake?

And the BIG QUESTION.....are you annoyed by ones who do any of the above (in excess)?
Or could you care less and just shut it off when you've had enough?
I have'nt used my CB for a long time.It does'nt work right and I refuse to get it fixed.I don't need it.There is too many idiots on there.Do you still get the common idiot saying(I'm not wearing any panties?)Then you get these guys that love to start fights on the CB by making prejudice remarks.Sure I don't like everybody but i'm not going to prove that on the CB. I'm trying to make money like you.I don't need to hear the constant fighing when i'm driving. But the CB isn't all bad. When it was working guys use to get on the CB and give me alot of compliments and they probably still do because I get alot of stares. But I don't need the dirty talker either.

I would have to agree, about the non-sense that goes on...on the CB radio. It really disgusts me when I here a woman come on the CB asking for directions or trying to get information and some idiot gets on and degrades the woman.

Just because a woman gets on the radio...why do most (male) drivers have to show their real IQ's?

i dont like the guys that think they have to burb and do audio checks on the radio. (and sorry for this one), but if you want to preach the word of your god, channel 19 is not the place to do it.and why is it theat when some one is trying to get directions, there is allways some jack ass that wants to act the fool and burb or throw a dead key?

just my thoughts.

We have people in the major cities in Australia that constantly say " I have a big cock!"

We get wankers here, everytime I get with in coowee (close) to any cities (Brisbane. Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide) I turn the radio off. We use UHF band here in Oz 477mhz. CB 27mhz still get used but mainly only for 2 or more people following each other. There are not many trucks using the old CB here australia anymore. We call the UHF 477mhz a radio or big set and the CB 27mhz a little set.

I listen to mine and only really talk when I am spoken to or someone wants to know something and no one else can help.

I Listen a lot, but I'll give a bear report when I have one. sometimes I'll crack a joke, but not often.

Mine is on all the time except when I am sleeping or just want to listen to Sat radio, like now. I am mostly a listener but like to talk as well. I hate when a driver is asking directions and other drivers act like they didn't even hear him, and they start talking about whatever. There is very little respect for other drivers anymore but I like to be the guy that gives the dummies a rough time too, kind of a defender of the ones that cant or wont.

I'm a listener, I'll give out a radio check to a driver looking for one and only speak when I'm spoken too. I also give information I'm 100% sure I'm right.

Teach me Mr Meogi :)

There is nothing to teach, as far as talking distances with CB radios. If you have a good CB antenna set up, then talking and hearing is not a problem.

People in general go out and spend lots of money on a radio, but go cheap on the antenna..this don't work.

You can take a uniden 510 properly tuned, and a good antenna properly tuned and out talk the most expensive radio around..that's not properly set up.

So the radio doesn't have a lot to do with it..

Antenna properly set up, and conditions allow you talk distance.

I have seen times, when it would take 1000 watts to talk to your neighbor 5 miles away.

I have also seen times when you could take 5 watts and talk 1000 miles away..

It all depends on the conditions and how the "skip" is running as to whether you can talk long distance or not. Having the antenna set-up properly will help in all situations.

you hit the nail on the head.. a cheap radio can get out just as good as a high end one. its all in the antenna set up.

I leave my on ll the time, and only interject when I'm sure of my facts. Now I have been known to start up a conversation if bored, tired, or otherwise.

I use it is if some jacka$$ trucker pulls a stupid move like running 66 in the middle lane in a 70 mph zone. That really grinds my gears.

I will also let a driver know it is clear to come over instead of dimming my lights.

I squeal on all law enforcement.

I also call out bambi, they have been known to wreck a driver's day.

Other than that, I don't converse, I usually keep quiet. Even if I know what I'm talking about, I want to hear the idiots that don't know what they are talking about get ho checked.

I have been known to instigate every now and again, usually with R&J Trucking, garbage hauling idiots who throw the 4 ways on up a grade only to hammer down and leave you hanging trying to pass in the left lane.

Run team. Cb is off unless I need it for something. When I was solo I had it on constantly. Ironicly my stress level went way down when I shut off the cb. Go figure. Picked up the handle "RoadRage".

I sometimes use it to interact with the heavy-haul guys and their escorts. Makes me feel like I'm part of the team at times! As far as the bickering and arguing I can only take so much of it before the radio goes back off. When I'm driving, I only turn it on out of boredom or during heavy traffic. Even then, it's not on that long before I go back to either my music or phone conversations.

For anyone that's reading this: What was with the Tarzan crap that was taking up most of the frequencies in Ontario, CA last Sunday evening? CB = Children's Band..... :paddle: :shoot:

Just got back from a 4 day trip, and the CB was never used. Seems like it stays off more and more these days.

With the technology we have today like cell phones and Satellite radios alot of drivers choose to just listen when they need to know something. The CB is 95% crap and 5% quality info.

I can't afford to spend one red cent on the CB. It is a communication tool, and when some childish jackwad gets on an begins playing around, I reach up and turn it off.
