These were started as seedlings I bought at Lowes the first week of March.
I just picked three hybrids at random. Left to right-Parks Wopper, Bush Goliath & Super Fantastic.The tallest is three feet and all are bearing fruit.
I'm curious about the Bush variety. It is not supposed to get very tall, but get fat and bushy. It is also a dterminate variety, meaning it will bear the majority of its fruit within a brief time period, rather than throughout the season.
Bell pepper plants are in the foreground, planted as seedlings at the same time. Again, I went with variety, red, yellow & orange. All three have peppers forming.
I planted earlier than I did last year. Hopefully they will be hardy enough to survive better once it gets really hot here in a month or two.

I just got some half inch wire mesh from Menards. A 3x5 roll of it was $5. They had other sizes, like 4 foot rolls, up to 25 feet I think. You can probably get a roll of that stuff and arch it over the strawbabies if they're all in a row (like ducks are supposed to be) kind of like a quonset shape, and cut some half-circles for the ends. Stitch it together with baling wire. Stake it down with tent stakes or something. Or cut up one of those cheap store-bought termater trellis things and make little candy-cane shaped hooks to use as stakes.
Yeah, a loose length of chicken wire will work good as a deterrent for moochers in the garden. just unroll it on top. The sharp metal edges and smell of humans tends to make them wary. that's how I kept the deer off my okra.
Today, I'm pulling old tree stumps out of the ground to make room for a dozen or so fruit trees.
I'm gonna wait a week and go see if the ones I want to buy got frost bit 2 days ago.

With the weather getting more and more unpredictable each year, it often makes me wonder how independent farmers and small backyard gardeners will survive. The big giants in the industry (like Monsanto) will no doubt survive and continue to create their "Frankinfoods", as some call it, but to me that is just a little scary.

Building one has been on my "to do" list. If nothing else, I could use it to start seeds in way early.

About 1/4 mile from my house there was a little half-acre lot for sale that has two greenhouses on it. They wanted $36k for it. I almost bought it. I SHOULD have bought it, cuz the person who eventually did buy it is using it to grow FLOWERS.
WTF?? Who the hell needs FLOWERS? You can't eat flowers unless you're a goat or something.

Cherry and plum trees going in the ground in a few hours.

Stumps are pulled, courtesy of my 2000 model Toyota 4wd tractor that will also do 110 mph down the interstate, lol.
AND, for @Cerberus I finally captured a chipmunk. There were 2 this morning on the deck. This one is missing half his tail.
Those suckers are FAST, so this was the best I could do and he wasn't a cooperative subject.........

Thought it would be to late to plant anything now. But what do i know, no green thumb here. I would kill a fake plant. But i watered it and everything, dont know what happened to it. lol

We have been planting over the last few weeks.
About 2 weeks ago it dropped to 33-35* for a few nights. Last nite it was 42*, so we're right on time. The main thing is to have the ground temp heated up enough for the seeds to germinate and the roots not to be shocked.
The fruit trees are about right too, but I let them acclimate for a week or so here at the house.
The chipmunk was trapped in our screened deck, same as yesterday. He came in after the birdseed and I shut the door.
He was running around for about 5 minutes before I got a clear camera shot. 2 out of 5 ain't bad.
Yesterday, the Rottie was out the door first and I had to let him out quick!

This is a little critter my old toothless momma kitty brought in two summers ago. The cat is pretty old, we don't know how old since she was a rescue courtsey of my son. She catches mice, moles, birds...pretty much anything she can get her paws on. Then she brings them to me....I make her let go of her prey and usually manage to get it back outside where it belongs. She's a slow learner...she hasn't caught on yet that anything she brings me is going back outside.

holy crap thats cold. last night we dropped down to a whopping 72 i think it was.
they are cute tho, havent seen one live since i was in colorado years ago. thought it was a funky looking squrrial. got schooled on that tho. didnt know you had a Rottie. they are such great dogs.
wish we had that going on. firt year here growing anything and man was it a learning experience. planted way to late but the tomatoes are looking like crap but at least producing tomatoes,even last years never say die plant. Just hoping we get some tomatoes before they die off. they got alot of tomatoes on them but they better hurry, its fixing to get hot.
oh and Jen and i talked about you earlier, your ears burning. lol. that basset hound? so fits you.

Thats cool, how much land do you have? seems like you got alot. thats so what we want to do. alot of land,plant our own food,get solar, and go off the grid and i mean completly.
