I never talk much about what I do on e-logs, mainly because I know that the powers that be use places like this to gather information for purposes such as this.
That said, now that it will no longer matter, I abused this constantly. Actually, the loophole I like to use, I am not sure if this change catches it or not. It is related, so it might be gone as well, but I will soon test the theory to see what happens. That said, I know this will have an effect on it, because of the time lapse that I have to deal with on short moves.
Basically, if I am only moving like 5 miles at the start of my day, I never start my clock until I am at a that location. Sure, the clock would switch over to driving after I had been driving for 3 minutes or so, but a couple minutes later I would be where I am going, and as soon as I switched it back to off duty, all the time would default back to off-duty. From what @Tazz posted, it looks like that loophole is now dead.
I'm not mad, because I knew it would happen eventually.
They will continue to nail this down to remove any cheating opportunities that they can. What they are doing now though, is likely the biggest loophole that was out there. at least for the qualcomm.
Back at Quality Carriers, you could cheat way more than this, and it was very easy to do. Xata made it very easy to move for long distances without being caught, as long as you were coming back to the same place where you unplugged their black box, LOL.
