Fast Food.

I'm another KFC fan. What's not to love about heavily breaded, flash fried chicken so dry it sucks all the moisture out of your mouth?;)

Actually, the KFCs with the buffet are nice. Good food, often featuring localized offerings, fried or grilled chicken, even had ham at one once. Oh, and usually the drink is included.

Popeye's is good too, especially the biscuits, but I find the the chicken a bit nondescript. ...More like grocery store fried chicken.

I think Bojangles is better than Popeyes for heart stopping chickeny goodness.

I've really been doing good staying away from this stuff lately. Bringing food in the truck from home, and heating up stuff in the nuker I got now.

But I'm out of food from home, so now it's on to Uncle Bens 90 second rice, steamed veggies and these micorwave meals with 1200mg of sodium.

Which I'm sure is enough to make a nutritionists head spin.

Looks like Subway and Arby's are running a dead heat for first place on the popularity poll. 23.33% each.

Tonight I am having Marie Callendar's Beef Pot Pie.

(Racer X 69 puts on his best Eric Cartman voice) "Get in the kitchen woman and make me some pot pie!"

Them things ain't cheap! Check the label. What's the sodium count?

The Hormel Compleat meals I've been ignoring in my closet the last month are genuinely scary.

Those Hormel meals are about on par with Cambells soups in terms of sodium. I eat both regularly. I know I could do better, but compared to McDonalds, I feel like I am doing ok.

They are just under $3 at Wally World and sometimes on sale, 2 for $5. Can't get a walk in sit down dinner for that price and I wouldn't get out of Mac's Lounge for much less than $7 for some snack wraps, fries and a milk.

I also get those Tai Pei entrees. They come in a box like the Chinese take out boxes in the frozen food case and are full of good stuff like vegetables and rice, and are pretty easy on the sodium and fat calories.

The pot pies have 700mg of sodium, or 33% of the daily amount. So one third of my daily allowance and I get something that makes my hungry spot happy. Breakfast is usually hot oatmeal or cold cereal, like granola or shredded wheat, coffee and a toasted english muffin with unsalted peanut butter, and fresh fruit. Lunch is green salad, a bowl of clam chowder or chili and a string cheese stick, and for a change maybe a frozen burrito followed up by a fruit cup (I really like the peach ones).

Fluids are like water, V8 juice, and orange juice. Never soda pop, that stuff will rot your teeth out and fatten you up like a Christmas turkey.

Gotta try and eat right, even on the road.

Haven't seen these, are they frozen?

Nope, these are not frozen. They heat up in 90 seconds in a microwave. I don't have a microwave in the truck, but I do have a Burton oven. You can put them in the oven, and they are hot within about 20 minutes. What i will sometimes do is decide which one I am gonna eat next, put in in the little oven, and before I get to where I plan on stopping to eat, I will plug in the oven, giving it time to get hot before I stop.

Have you noticed the packaged meals at some of the truck stop fuel desk that require no stove, nor, microwave? They heat themselves. I don't really recall the name, but, "Heater Meals" comes to mind. I bet they're real nasty, but, at $5 a pop, I actually considered throwing a couple under the bunk for a "real" emergency. Never did. Glad.

Del-Taco and their mucho beef burrito, w/1 pound of hamburger and whatever else you want on it, you bite into the thing and liquid fat starts to gush out all over your hands and clothes, it is a shame heart attacks taste so good

In the Marines they would issue us these chemical bags with our MRE's , just add water and you could boil an egg, we got the idea of breaking up the powder and putting it into a plastic water bottle with a little water, they would get so hot that the steam would expand the plastic like a balloon and when it popped, it was louder then a gunshot, it would scare the crap out of people

I like how MREs plugged you up so bad that you only had to poop about once in a 2 week field excercise. Then, when everyone went back to the rear and went out drinking that night, the next few days made the head a free for all. That's disgusting. I shouldn't post such things.

I'm sure they meant it that way. Can't have grunts on the go needin' to poop in the jungle all the time.

I've never bought any of those Heater Meals either. They scare me. They remind me of something you'd find in a long forgotten government warehouse 100 years after a nuclear war. Like an MRE. There's even a more expensive one now, but I forget why it's more money.

More cancer and sterility causng chemicals probably.

I was lucky, we had an old salt for a SGT, when we got deployed to Saudi, he had us all buy a couple of bottles of fiber pills,
those MRE headcalls could be very excruciating, probrably good it came out that way because the t/p that came in the little condiment packs were about useless

How about that new Sweet Chili McNugget sauce at Mickey D's?! man that stuff is good!

AND..on the back of the placemat, there was nutritional information about every item on the menu.

There really should be laws against that much sodium in food. Not even so much the saturated fat and calories as the freakin' sodium!

Why is that much necessary? One item had 2000mg by itself! I don't remember which, but it was one of the chicken sandwiches.

Yes... you are dead-on correct. I was in a hurry the other day and stopped by Micky-Ds for a "Heart Attack in a Sack" to go. Dayum!! That QP w/cheese was so salty it nearly took the hide off of my tongue. Way too much.

I have two theories on this.

1. Any fast food joint's big profits are the soda fountains. They make insane margins on drinks. Salty food makes peeps gotta', needa', wanna' have something to drink.

2. Conditioning. Just like all critters, we love the taste of salt. Want to keep the deer close to your favorite hunting stand? Put out salt-licks. Domestic farm animals stay close to where the salt-lick is placed. Ronald may be using the same method to insure we keep coming back.

KFC has a new "sandwich" that doesn't even have any bread. Just two pieces of chicken with cheese and I think bacon in the middle. And the news item I saw it on said it was extremely loaded with sodium.

Gotta keep the animals hooked and coming back for more!

They should call it the Hypertension Special.

I remember when Hardees came out with that Monster Thickburger. It was 1400 calories, and all the health freaks went nuts. The CEO basically said, "Hey. Morons. Not everything has to be aimed at the health conscious! You don't like it, don't eat it!"

I have to hit a supercenter this weekend, and go back to my uncle bens and bagged steamed veggies. I can actually feel my skin has gotten greasier since I ate that crap this afternoon. That's disgusting. I've not eaten in the truck for a week, and I've spent gobs of money, and felt like crap most of the time.

I think I may have turned into half a health freak...

Taco bell hands down. I can eat it 7 days a week if possible. Since most truckstops only have McD's, Wendys, Arbys, Burger king and Subway, i like arbys the best.
