I can’t plan my own loads and even if I could I would still prefer to be able to sleep and drive when I want to. I wouldn’t ever drive while tired and I don’t need dot/mommy/daddy to tell me when that isIt's simple.....trip planning
Sally Field was Forrest Gumps mommy..Sally Field says stupid is as stupid does
That's not how it works, mostly because of guys driving illegally when the system was permissive, and getting into fatality accidents. The driving public apparently has a problem with that.I can’t plan my own loads and even if I could I would still prefer to be able to sleep and drive when I want to. Accidents and Fatalities are actually UP since ELD...That's not how it works, mostly because of guys driving illegally when the system was permissive, and getting into fatality accidents. The driving public apparently has a problem with that.
Another factor is probably drivers being forced to run under an unnatural schedule. Just because a truck doesn't move for ten hours, dispatch thinks you just slept thar whole time and they plan accordingly. Last minute trailer swaps, you've got hours to fix someone else's fukup, and that guy gets the load you've already planned your next couple of days around. That kind of thing is what burned me out on the reefer business.Accidents and Fatalities are actually UP since ELD...
Reason they concluded is that Electronic Logs forced more trucks on Urban the roadways during "PEAK" Hours
Yeah I called off work quite a bit due to not being able to get to sleep on time for whatever reason.Another factor is probably drivers being forced to run under an unnatural schedule. Awesome work ethic there.I just stop n take lots of NAPS and be LATE..
After enough Screw Ups they know better than to run ya like that and adjust accordingly..
Or they can FIRE Me and I'll sit my happy ass at home on Unemployment

Trucking Jobs are a Dime a Dozen and Carriers know competition is FIERCEAwesome work ethic there.![]()
And most of them pay that way too.Trucking Jobs are a Dime a Dozen
I don't drive when I'm tired. I'm a mess at it. And my backing goes to shit. I don't have to be hop to perky but I can't pull an all nighter or anything and still be safe out there. This mess is really simple at this point. HOS was probably tough on a truck driver when they were adjusting to it... Back in the '30s.....
At this point, everyone is probably old enough at this point that if they are driving, they probably started under Hours Of Service rules. It was there before you started, so it's on you to know what you are getting into before you start.
Have they changed over time? yes. Enough to make a big difference? no.
If a carrier truly runs you in a way that you can't get rest, find another carrier. I've never been forced to drive when I felt like I couldn't. I never will be forced to drive to get a load picked up or delivered when I feel like I can't.
Sometimes, I may not sleep well at night. I might not be tired and stay up late. So what. Still gotta get up and go. Same goes for any office job. You might not be tired when you get home, and might end up staying up binging on Netflix. Still gotta be in the office at 0800 to do your job. Those bosses don't care if you are rested up either.
Nobody dies or goes to prison if you fall asleep in your cubicle though.Sometimes, I may not sleep well at night. I might not be tired and stay up late. So what. Still gotta get up and go. Pretty much any safety sensitive job is going to have safety meetings where they ramble on about sleep and stuff though.Depends on the job.

I can't think of too many jobs where you can screw up so badly from a desk that people die. Except maybe air traffic controllers.
Like de-icing aircraft. You miss a spot of ice and it's a bad day.Let me clarify by saying "local non-driving job". Lots of things you could do where fatigue/inattention can kill others. And plenty of those are far more physically demanding and probably require more rest than a truck driver requires.
