Because of eld and logs I am constantly getting my sleep pattern messed up. I am not tired at all and have 4 hours until I have to do a 10 hour drive shift. Ofc when I have to start driving I will be getting tired. Shippers and receivers don’t give a fuck about drivers so they plan everything as tight as possible. And ofc it’s my fault if it’s late and I can’t just sleep when I’m tired.
Logs are such fucking bullshit!!!!!!!
You're new to driving, especially the OTR lifestyle. It takes time for your body to adjust to the different sleep/waking cycles needed to be successful at this. Some people never manage to adjust, others can never manage to deal with driving at night. BTW, all ELDs do is enforce truthfulness on our use of drive time. The rest of it is due to the laws on hours of service.
Some tips.
Your body needs sleep, not just because you're tired. A large portion of the bodies ability to heal itself and fight off disease depends on it. Sleep to the human body is kind of like gas to a car. You can't keep on going without refilling the tank - sleep debt is a real thing.
Never overlook an opportunity to take a nap. Even just lying down with your eyes closed helps. That includes time at a loading dock.
Learn how to log a split sleeper berth break. Anything over 2 hours off duty can be combined with 8 straight hours in sleeper berth to get your hours back. Pulling over for a two hour nap can do wonders for keeping you alert. Theres plenty of posts written about logging split breaks in the forum - use the search tool.
Don't pass up a rest area parking slot. They're a straight pull in frequently, and will keep you out of a backing accident at a truck stop if you're overtired.
Dealing with logs, fitting breaks into a trip, and your personal level of fatigue is all part of this job. Not everyone can do that.
