Duck Pond Redneckery

Y'all Ilinoisers trade women so weird. You make it sound like selling an Xbox.
No it's just that I don't want to stew in anger and get all depressed and shit, so I'm just.. not.

Sometimes what we WANT to do isn't the most intelligent thing to do.

I started a new job two days after she took off. General construction work. Plumbing, electrical, remodeling, roofing, siding, HVAC, etc

But it's weird... We've got 3 or 4 projects ongoing at the same time, but there's just 2 of us half the time, and sometimes his wife and sometimes his 17 yr old nephew.

We're in the middle of remodeling a rich black woman's house, but stopped to install 3 lighted exit signs in a bar, and of course, build the actual bar top counter thing. Then back to Sonja's to hang drywall, but today we did the tear-off on a roof which has to be done by Thursday when it's supposed to rain.

The house we're roofing is like 100 feet away from this great Italian beef, poor boy, burger and BBQ and all sorts of other great stuff.. locally famous, and we were directly downwind and the scents were making us hungry.

So where did the 17 year old go at lunch?

Subway.... 😵‍💫

I guess that's why he's so skinny 😆.

He's like 4 inches taller than me but probably 150 lbs

I have this mower:

In 2003 the bottom front of the deck on the left side was rusted out. When it would scalp the ground trying to mow the ditch or if the wheels fell in a rut or something the sheet metal would get bent back & hit the blade.

I got tired of having to stand the mower up on it's hind legs and beat the metal back into shape. So I did this:

Problem solved, ... for a while. Eventually the right side rusted out too & by then I had 3 other mowers to use so I just took that deck off & scrapped it. Now it's all go, no mow.

It's a good little engine. Always fires right up. A little while ago I had that thing running after it sat in a trailer for 3 years. It fired right up. It just needed a battery, an oil change, and a new fuel line.

About 5 or 6 years ago I converted it to hand-control by tying the lever that used to raise & lower the blades, to the clutch. I just welded a tab onto the shaft for the foot clutch & hooked up a chain.

It's hard to see the chain linkage in this picture but whatever...

When you use the foot clutch, the chain simply goes slack. But when you move the hand lever forward to "lower" the imaginary blades, it pulls on the chain to do the same as stepping on the clutch. I find it's actually easier on the transaxle using the hand lever because you can engage it smoother. It jerks & takes off & puts a shock-load on the transaxle when using the foot clutch but you can do it smoother with the hand lever.

I did that so a girl I know who is paralyzed can drive it around the yard. The first thing she did was crash it into my F-150 and smash the hood. Then she was afraid to get back on it.

Anyway now I'm thinking about re-purposing it again.
I pimped your ride.....

I got nothing.
I would've dropped that stuff off in his driveway on your schedule.
He said he made space.

Current plan is tomorrow after work I'll run it up there. Regardless of whether he makes an excuse, it's out of my trailer tomorrow night cuz it's gonna rain and I want to put that 1949 Crosley project back in the trailer. I'll pile it up in front of his garage door if he doesn't unlock it.
